Why did you join OWF?

Hello everyone, I was l reminiscing over when I first stumbled onto this forum, remembering when I first tried to join and you couldn't really register for some reason. And it got me to wonder how this whole group of oddlings all came together.

For me back in the day around 2005/6 I always stalked the forums but was never able to join,
But I always came back to read the threads and fan faction and fan games being made because during the time OWI was I'm a dark limbo and I was itching for some oddworld. Fast forward to 2011/12. Once OWI was back in action and I thought "hey let's see if this forum is still alive and to my surprise I could register! And the rest is history.

So what about you guys? What brought you here to the land of the misfits?

I remember when I was about 12 googling Abe and Oddworld and the likes, and one of my searches was to find the answer to why Paramites feature in Stockyards of the back of the box art. I found myself on this place, but I think I was too young to understand the concept of a forum (we're talking 8 or 9 years ago) so it didn't entertain me much.

Oddworld has always been such a big part of my life, but I can't remember what the actual event was that made me click the sign up button to this place once I'd grown up. I think it was before anything solid was confirmed about Abe HD, but it must have been around that time, so maybe it was that. Possibly. I think.

I was bored of never joining on-line communities simply because I had no broadband (at the time). And having gained access to a scanner and learned to use photoshop, and also having written an overlong poem based on Exoddus, I wanted to show off.

As my first ever forum, my early posts were over-enthusiastic and very awkward. This was also when I discovered that I had a knack for very long science posts, which as I recall were much less appreciated back in the day.

I joined, spewed what now seems to me like illegible garbage and left. This happened on repeat at yearly intervals until a year or so ago.

I remember that when I joined was one of the first times I had my own private way to access the internet, if that's anything to go by.

Yeah that was pretty blunt.

My point being that I used to be petty and get annoyed with people who couldn't use grammar and wrote fanfictions

I remember coming across this back in 2001 before Munch came out, but didn't actually join until 2002. I even think I posted more often back then too. That was when I had time. I also posted a fan fiction that I wrote as well.

In 2008. I was in a phase when I was completely obsessed with Oddworld. I played Abe's Exoddus pretty much every day. I also looked through all the Oddworld sites, researching the lore. I then found The Oddworld Forums. I can't remember the exact reason why I joined, But I think it was a mix of me just loving Oddworld, trying to promote those stupid CRAZY Oddworld videos and to find out more about DDCheat.

Never going on a forum before, I didn't really understand how it works, So I treated it like MSN and ended up being an annoying piece of shit for a good year or so. Over the years and after I grew up more, I took the criticisms to heart and I started to write better. I realized that I came here every single day to check up on everyone and talk about my favorite franchise. I would be gutted if I got banned.

I joined when I was about 14, looking for an AO/AE level editor. Five years later, there is a fully functional level editor, which I have used exactly once.

I have no doubt that OWF has been the biggest factor in my intellectual development over those years.

I joined the original EzBoard back in late '00/early '01 (I can't remember) for the simple reason of liking a game enough to join one of its fan forums, when times were weird, and the internet was a new and interesting place.

I've left and come back a few times, contribute sporadically and mostly lurk. When I have stayed here it's 'cause I'm friends with some of you and enjoy reading your posts, but also 'cause I still like Oddworld and am watching its revival with interest.

Back in early 2002, I was browsing the official OW site and found Oddchat among some links, so I thought I'd check it out. That was the first time I got into any sort of "international" interaction on the internet.

After spending some months there, one of the people (might have been Kaimana or something like that) told me that I should check out OWF too, so I did. Then I joined because the RPG section looked interesting (there was a lot of RPing going on Oddchat too back then), but it was pretty much dead (I made a thread there that pretty much revived the section and lasted for about a decade, but that's not interesting, really).

I found this place because I love Oddworld, but I had no desire to join in any of the discussion at the time. This was pre-Zoophillia days, but not by long. I was only 12 at the time.

Fuck that was almost 6 years ago.

Also I came quite late in WOTA2. After the glory days of Moosh and Carnix, when it started to get a bit tedious and drag on. All of the memorable comics had been had been and gone, and my art skills were poor and slow.

OWF was actually the second forum I joined. The first one was polish and about Residen Evil series. I'm not sure why I joined it, as I don't like RE much. Maybe to piss people off. On the other hand, the rules were a bit strict and I couldn't be a dick to people for no reason...

Joined cause I wanted to post in Paul's level editor thread. Discovered the site a bit before that when I wanted to know what was going on with Oddworld.
I'm not very active but I follow some threads, and always check out the new threads.
And for a few years always hoped someone would post a birthday cake for my birthday but gave up on that...

I think a lot of people do. :P

But at the end of the day it's a nice community and we've all played our parts in it for years. Even if it's a little quiet right now it's still nice to chat with people. I mean, it's not doing too badly for one of the oldest forum communities still going. I mean there's that old Fallout forum, Cafe of Broken Dreams or something, about the same age as OWF but has like, 50 posts a year. :P

I remember getting a birthday thread about half a year after I initially made an account and whoever the OP was called me a feisty newbie

I joined after lurking for 4 years because I was obsessed with Oddworld but I felt like I shouldn't be joining something like a forum while still being 12. So, I waited until shortly after I turned 16 because I figured I was more mentally ready to engage in a community that revolved around my favourite game series, but I sure didn't feel very comfortable or welcome when I did I totally blame Moxco so I faded into the background then forgot my password for like 2 straight years or some shit

Then I started being active again and here I am.

Gotta say I'm actually regretting that decision

E- I went and looked and MA is the one that made that birthday thread

I joined back in 2005 with a username related to Meeches (i think?). I must have forgotten about it and joined back up as Jordan_Boi (later changed to Jordan, for obvious reasons) in Jan 2006. At the time I didn't really understand the concept of a forum and all I knew was that I loved Oddworld. I'd come on a lot more than I do now to see if there were any new posts. Along with this I was pretty annoying and made lots of pointless threads and had poor grammar which was eventually washed out of me as I grew up.

This forum is the only one I've visited consistently for a long period of time.
