AO Fan Patch?

So it was about two months ago now, but i re-bought AO and AE from a great site for 10 bucks a piece, and i played through them both all very well and good. Brought back good old nostalgia from about 7 years old :-)

But i did notice one thing; AO made me rage a hell of a lot more then AE, but i don't think AE was any less difficult, if anything, the opposite.

Now knowing why, and that is, the absolutely beautiful quicksave function (which fixed my one and only quarrel with the game) i began to wonder, is there a fan patch for AO that would allow me, someone who is a bit too inclined to anger, the patience and perseverence with which to save all 99 original Muddies?

Thanks, a nubbie you'll likely never see again after a week from now (that is, unless someone enlightens me as to the operations of the RPG without me having to read 40 pages worth of text),

No such patch exists to my knowledge. But you could try a trainer if you really want to make the game easier for yourself

Half the fun of Oddworld was lost in quicksave. PS1 emulators have save-states, but other than that, no such thing exists.

I found AE just as fun with the Quicksave feature. It made me think more.. strategically about the gameplay. But anyway, I didn't even know you could get AO on PC as a PS1 image to run in an emulator

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll probably just find the emulator version if thats the case.

Realistically though, i don't see it as making it easier, just less time consuming. In all honesty, there are dozens of levels (paths, scenes, w/e yall like to call em) in AO that take ages and are piss easy, or, have parts that take ages and are easy following by something that takes less then half a second and are incredibly difficult. I'm not one for monotony, thus i want the easy and long part done after one attempt.
That, and dying takes ages with the "argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thunk, dun dun dun dun...." or "hiss, hiss, kachunk, hark hark hark hark"

And Mr Phylum sir, i'd have to disagree! It took out the fraction of the game that wasn't fun (see above onomatopoeias).

I've also got a side question: Whom might i contact regarding the RPG? Twould it be splat?
Edit: Yes, it twould be Splat :P

I liked AO as a series of carefully executed walking/running/rolling patterns. You had to have a good memory, and skill. In AE, there were similar things, but no longer a series, they were individual challenges. In AE, you could have more fun, though. Going on a slapping rampage was always fun, and slog jumping was half as frustrating

Hah, yes, the Scrab and Paramite gauntlets in AO are two of the most fun moments i've had in my gaming life - theres no way i'd want a quicksave in them.

But when it comes to some of the Scrab/Paramite Temple hubs or rooms i find it really fustrating having to do simple stuff like climbing up 4 ledges to trigger a rolling wheel only to go down the 4 ledges, go left a few screens, go down two ledges, go left, go up a ledge and then have something that requires thought and excellent timing and you'll probably die on 10 times before you finally figure out how to do it *breathes*.

In other words, you've got a one and a half minute build up of easy stuff to make an attempt that takes 5 seconds at most. Not very fun T.T

Well it's supposed to be challenging. Many people manage to get past those sections somehow (PS, I love the idea of a Slig walking around with two Paramites with their mouths in his hands as boxing gloves!).

AO was all about reflexes, speed and thinking on your three-toed feet. If you could quicksave after every jump it would lose the point. Pulling off chains of ridiculous stunts is much more satisfying.

You can only have one current quicksave anyway, so if you screw something up during a run... you gotta do it all over again.

But if you QuikSave the very instant you die you get a barrel of laughs trying to pause the game quick enough to select restart path for the next 15-20 minutes. XD
