Yeah. The second Oddworld Game I bought was Abe's Oddysee, but I got it cheap from a friend who copied and reconfigured the files, thus making it illegal. The game lagged, but if I pressed 1, Abe'd flatulate instead of saying "Hello".
Then, I bought a retail copy (real copy, legal copy) for the Playstation. It worked perfectly.
So yeah, I would suggest trying to find a real copy of Exoddus (you still can, I bought a used copy in GameStation for my cousin), reconfiguring the files, or get a copy that could have complete files. The most likely solution is to buy a legal copy. There's plenty of Region1 versions on eBay (American version), and I think I've seen a few region2 versions on Amazon (European version).
