Jak and Daxter/Ratchet and Clank series

MOD EDIT: Split from this thread.

Quark was a/the villain in the first and second games. After that he's been a bumbling support character.

This is going to be awful. I have very low expectations. Story has never been the strong suit of Ratchet and Clank. The first 3 games barely took themselves seriously, which worked well. The biggest downfall of the Future trilogy was the serious and poorly written story. I'm not even going to mention "All 4 One!".

I didn't play much of Jak 2 but it seemed way too melodramatic. I like that the R&C series didn't end up taking itself seriously like the Jak series seemed to end up doing.

So yeah, disagree with Sekto.

Jak 2 was pretty silly. Also, it was fucking amazing.

While that may be true, it was still an amazing game. That's not really a bad thing, being the worst Jak game.

True, it's not a bad game, just wasn't up to par with the other Jak games imo.

Jak 2 didn't take itself seriously. Some of its characters did, but the game didn't.

Jak 2 was the best gameplay and pacing wise, but as far as being a game Jak 3 probably takes the cake.

Either way, Sly 2 (same year as RnC3 and Jak 2) was brilliant and constantly overlooked in the 3D action-platformer debates.

Ratchet and Clank attempted to get serious during Deadlocked (hiss, screech), but failed miserably and gave it up. P.S. All 4 One is actually a good game

I was disappointed by the limited use of leaper lizards in Jak 3. That was the killer app of the game, as far as I'm concerned. I would have leaper-lizarded my way through the whole thing if I could have.

Alas, I had to content myself with unlimited ammo, eco, and a turbo-charged jetboard in the desert. It was awesome.

Still... sigh.

Jak 2 was the worst Jak game.
JAK X COMBAT RACING!!!!

JAK X COMBAT RACING!!!!

JAK X COMBAT RACING!!!!

not sure if anyone remembers the commercials for the 4th Jak game but they were literally someone screaming "JAK X COMBAT RACING!!!!", explosion, RATED TEE FOR TEEN

Jak 2 was great. Tried something different. Ratchet and Clank is still literally the exact same game, albeit prettier. Which isn't a bad thing but seriously you play one you played 'em all

Also RnC comes across as being written by a spastic twelve year old raised on nothing but old scooby doo and episodes of GI Joe.

Ignoring the title of this thread and the fact I named it, is the Vita Sly Cooper game worth getting for someone who has never had any of them, but played a demo of the first one and has really oddly lasting fond memories of it?

I've never actually played a J&D game but I'd love to if the HD collection was released on Vita.

I remember that Jak X commercial, Mac.

Jak X was shameless fun, especially in splitscreen. I have sunk many hours into long, stupid races with friends. We used to do silly things like have ridiculously high lap caps on the shortest tracks with the max number of enemy cars and get a violent Nascar atmosphere. I never finished the main story, but you can't say that the game wasn't a laugh.

Also, that's disappointing about the new Sly game. I've been looking forward to that for a while. I'd heard some ok reviews, but the reviewers openly admitted to not having played any other Sly games before.

I don't even own a PSvita you guys. I sold it to buy a bunch of watermelon that went bad. Looks like the joke is on me!!!!!!

Also I seem to recall the last Ratchet and Clank game I played having a big grandiose 'Lombaxes are the chosen ones but someone killed them all' plot that seemed a little out of place in a game where you slaughter planets full of critters for money. The writing was never the strong point in the series but at least they tried to dress Jak up with spooky mutant powers.

I've always hated this Jak VS Ratchet argument, It's like the Crash VS Spyro one. They are two different games to one and other to get compared to all the time. But just to contribute to the thread. I like both franchises. But I prefer Ratchet a lot more. probally because I've played and completed more games in that franchise.

I am a big Ratchet & Clank fan. I adore the PS2 games (aside from Gladiator) the most but I enjoyed the PS3 ones too, Crack in Time especially. I love the gameplay, I love the crazy, over the top weapons and I love the locations and different planets you explore. Ratchet 2 is probably my favourite, but I loved 3. Never played Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank, All 4 One or Full Frontal Assault.

(Shameless promotion: I did a playthough of the first one and I plan to do them all)

And I also really like the Jak games too. I didn't get far into 1 or 3 but I played the hell out of 2. I don't see why people say it's the worst one. Surely that racing one is?

Naughty Dog need to make a new Jak game, I didn't play the PSP one but I heard it wasn't amazing. Forget the HD remakes, I want to see Jak 4.

Yes, it totally did.

I wouldn't say UYA really took itself that seriously. I mean, Captain Qwark. That game was loaded with satire of action sci-fi and had a general comedic light-heartedness to it that I loved.

Also, I kinda jumped the Ratchet shift when Deadlock came out, and you're right in that the new games do try a bit too hard, but if we're just talking about the original trilogies I'd say Ratchet games took themselves a lot less seriously than the Jak games. This is all based on what I've actually played of Jak 2 and 3, though. And from what my friend (who is a PS2 platformer nut) has told me.

So for the record it looks like Sly 4, while not being a particularly innovative experience, is a well crafted classic platformer with excellent visuals and an enjoyable story suited for both fans and newcomers. Not breaking any barriers but definitely a joy to play.

I'd just like to pop in and say Sly 4 is actually a pretty good game and it works very well on the Vita. Don't know why Mac completely crapped on it, but I wouldn't say it's bad, maybe a bit mediocre.

I played, like the beginning of Jak and Daxter. I didn't want to play a game that involved an annoying orange piece of shit raping my shoulder in the first place, but I tried it anyway. The first time I died, Daxter looked at me and said "Say goodnight Jak". I never played since.
