Slender

Not sure if anyone made a topic on this, but i thought this would be a good idea. You can talk about the times you play slender, how it turned out, frightning experiences glitches and things like that.

I played Slender and let me tell you, it surprises me and makes me shake in the dark. One time i had no pages with me and tried to find a page in the bathroom. Since it wasn't in any of the rooms i looked in, i double checked them and i found slender in the last room. It almost made me crap my pants XD. My friend though had a different reaction, but almost the same as mine. If he sees this thread, hope he posts his experience :P.

Edit: P.S, i didnt know if anyone made this thread before because im using a different computer and the search doesn't work on this.

Never played it. But it seems like the entire game is just one jump scare over and over again.

Sorry, maybe i should of explained the game on the first post.

Your a guy and you have to find i think 8 pages. While your finding a page, slenderman (a faceless, tall guy in a suit) comes after you. He comes closer when you look away, but you start dieing if you look at him. You have to look away, find pages, use your flashlight wisely, and run.

P.S, the run sucks. It's just like walking >.>

I got it. Played it once, then I couldn't hit the right buttons any more on account of the wobbling.

I didn't think it looked very scary, then I actually played it. The atmosphere was perfect. One of the few games to actually make me jump.
Still does that, too. That's the amazing thing. It doesn't really stop being scary, unless you play with sound off, in which case you're doing it completely wrong.

Tell me about it. You, alone in the woods minding your own buisness, collecting pieces of paper with slenderman on it, than a tall, faceless man comes out and SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF YA! I should try doing video logs and put them on here when i get the chance. Possibly starting sunday.

Posted by Rid3: I played it. I thought it was shit. Then I forgot totally about it until now.

It may be possibly that you didnt play it in the dark and/or you didnt have your volume high enough. Do both of those things to get the full effect.

On the face of it the atmosphere is done really well. Me and my flatmates had a phase of playing it together and it was good fun because of how much it made people jump. The game itself though isn't anything ground-breaking, but I doubt that was the developer's intention. A sequel is being made though which sounds pretty interesting!

Slender is the Paranormal Activity of games. It fools you to into thinking it's scary, but it's only just startling you with cheap, infrequent jump scares.

Invest in Amnesia, or if you want something free, try SCP: Containment Breach. Both are more effective than Slender.

Of course, the guy who made Slender only intended it as a demo for something bigger and better. At least I think so. There's a much more involved Slenderman game in the works by the same guy(s), so yeah.

You're both very weird. Or maybe just kind of insensitive to atmospheric cues, in which case jump scares is all that can really get you.

You played a bit.
Did you play the entire game with closed back headphones at night with no lights while you're alone in the house?

If not, you're doing it wrong.

To be fair I only played the demo. i might get the full game if t's on sale some time, but horror isn't really my thing.

also, did you try Slender with all the things you just mentioned? I find the game pretty freaky still. It's more than just the jump-scares IMO. it's the fact that you're alone in the woods and Slender could be anywhere, and is probably watching you as you walk around looking for papers. I thought the way they built up tension with the subtle noises added after really page were really well done for what I pretty much a demo game.

Then again, I know next to nothing about horror, so my opinion probably isn't of much value here.

I love horror games, and they're frequently the only game genre I look forward to. I always try my best to immerse myself fully when I play them, especially the first person ones. Slender made me jump, of course, but it didn't disturb me. I need to be disturbed, or else once the game is over, everything just goes back to normal.

Try SCP Containment Breach. If you're familiar with SCP, it's especially fun. It's arguably the same thing as Slender, but I found it to be more effective. The blink meter is a stroke of genius.

I agree with the fact that Slender isn't disturbing at all, yeah. Psychologically it isn't very scary.

But yeah, my brother kept tellin me about those SCP games, might give one of them a whirl. Sci-fi horror generally scares me the most because it can seem so strangely plausible.

I'd say SCP is only about 50% sci-fi horror. Many of the creatures/objects they document have no logical or scientific explanation. They're just horrible things that make no sense and need to be contained at all costs.

I can't help but wonder if Joss Whedon was a fan of SCP, as the overarching plot to "Cabin In The Woods" is strikingly similar.

What I like about the SCP game is how they pulled out all the stops. They put in all the most horrible, frightening, and dangerous SCP's on record, including the dreaded 682. They also update the entire game regularly, often with major improvements and changes, so there's always some new (and terrifying) stuff to look forward to.

Looks like a freaky game though. I’m no horror buff so I generally steer clear unless there’s a group involved.

That's the other SCP game. That one has never really scared me. The original version of that game is actually much creepier, even with the inferior graphics and sound.

That is weird, my laptop tried to die. I might add my laptop is pretty low end, not meant for any sort of gaming beyond AoE II.
