The 2020 Oddworld Forums Awards (Now Hosted Primarily on Discord)

So, while I haven't bothered to format it for the forums just yet (and probably won't either, because that's a lot of effort for the four or so people that only use the forums and rarely as hell) I've started the 2020 Oddworld Forums Awards! I suppose it's worth bearing in mind that those of you on the Forums exclusively will likely have missed out on a lot of the "juicy" material that happens on Discord, so if you have no votes or intention of voting, no worries. If you'd like to, I suggest you put your grievances with modern technology aside long enough to get on Discord and vote as the "original vision" intended.

Again, I could format it better, but this year, the categories are:

Keep in mind it's more akin to IM, so it doesn't necessarily equate to forum posts when it comes to verboseness.

yeah i don't quite get that either. seems strange. but it's a new age apparently. obviously we must have an aversion to modern technology, that definitely must be the reason why we don't care. that must be it. surely.

also i'm totally not above just 69'ing STM's votes and voting him for everything. STM for overlord. we'll have our own forum awards, dammit. even though these are technically ours, but not anymore. or something. i don't fucking know.

actually that reminds me, why are we calling them 'oddworld forums awards' when they're more like 'oddworld discord awards' or whatever? everyone has pretty much accepted the fact they're nothing to do with the forums anymore yet they still carry the same name. how does that even make sense? come up with your own name you fucking plagiarists! What I find weirder is that some of you seem to be condescending towards Discord as a weaker alternative to the forums... while hardly any of you bothers to even hold up conversation on the forums, leaving it little more than a barren wasteland of boredom.

tbf i made those posts with tongue-in-cheek, i wasn't being completely serious. i was just being a sarky cunt. i don't agree with what you're saying here, but i think it would be better for my general lifespan if i agree to disagree with a few points you made there.

just know that i don't have a problem with your discord, the only reason i haven't joined is because i'm too old-headed for that shit now. i really have no patience for modern internet culture to be honest. plus a lot of the general oddworld-related convos people have I have already discussed to death, and it was probably ten years ago on these forums. that's the truth. i don't care is the essence of it. i doth not care anymore.

It's Oddworld Forums Awards because 90% of the people eligible for these awards originate from the Oddworld Forums and 90% of the content that is eligible was made by said people. Seems only appropriate to call that the unifying factor.

Everyone over the age of 40 hates technology and wishes they could go back to the gold of days of using flint to start fires, looking at the sky for dating advice, whacking sticks together as a form of cultural expression, communicating in a series of grunts and groans and most importantly beating up anyone who disagrees with you.

For the more serious record, though, we try to keep Oddworld-related discussions on the Discord to a bare minimum, because holy shit, if there's one thing we don't want to talk about anymore, anywhere, it's Oddworld. It's a mix of exhaustion of new and interesting topics and the reminder of years spent waiting for a game that wound up a disappointment to everyone and the knowledge that we're doing the same thing with SoulStorm anyway.

Because the correct thing thing to do is tie a message to a balloon and send it off, then hope someone does the same so you get one - that is a real conversation on a national scale, potentially international if you get a really big balloon
