Since I'm bored...

Figured I'd share my art. These are hosted through facebook, so they've all been resized to shit. Hope everyone can see them okay.

I'll throw out some concept art to start.

Thanks guys

Right now I do concept work for a webseries in the same vein as "Red Vs. Blue", only about Id (Quake/Doom) and not nearly as funny. It's called "Arenas". Dunno if there are any Quake 3 fans out there, but its basically sci-fi Gladiator.

I also do the music, some of which I already shared in that Maestro's Amongst Us thread.
We're heading into Season 2 with high expectations.

And yes, all of these were done with traditional mediums. Pencil and paint. I clean them up a little bit after scanning/photographing, but not to a significant degree.

S'more Arenas concepts.

And some pictures of the show itself, in case you were wondering what it's like and can't be arsed to look for yourself.

Really reminds me of that. Still, holy shit. I mean that. Our styles are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, but you make me feel obsolete. I was working on something and decided to take a break and check the forums, and after looking at your work, I think I'm done for the day.

ha.

Seriously though, keep up the amazing work.

Chip Hazard for the fucking win.

Thanks alot, man. I can do cartoony stuff as well, but this is shaping up to be my forte. It's pretty far out of my comfort zone, but I'm learning so much doing these designs. Ideally I'd like to use my art to infiltrate the world of cinema and garner enough merit to start greenlighting my own film ideas.

On the note of your style, you're probably already familiar with some of these guys, but I'll throw em out anyway!

Bad Otis Link
Mark Reusch
Ben Prisk

I'm actually fb friends with all these dudes, too. I love their work. Especially the masks Mark makes.

Try saying that ten times fast "the masks mark makes".

Yeah, those guys are all pretty great. I'm really trying to stay away from looking at too much art that's even remotely similar to mine, or I guess that mine is similar to, because I feel like I'm getting stale and losing what little originality I once had.

Although Thurop has been nothing but supportive and encouraging, which has helped keep me motivated. Plus he came up with the name for my Etsy, which will forever be one of the coolest things in my life.

I know you did custom Mighty Muggz, or something similar.
Otherwise, do you just do paintings? Or would you ideally like to apply your art to something practical? You mention T-shirts in your signature, but there's no link.

And that's pretty sick about Thurop. That guy's some kinda magician.

I was selling t-shirts when I had some friends who owned their own gallery and screening/printing business, which earned me a tremendous discount on having shirts made. But they've gone under thanks to a local twat who's on a mission to be the biggest and baddest [and only] local artist in town with a gallery, so I haven't had shirts for sale in quite some time. Mostly because the cost of going through a mainstream printing company is too high, and I don't trust the silk screen kids on campus, and I don't have the room for a proper DIY setup at home.

As far as what I do, it's paintings, illustration, custom vinyl toys, and the odd short comic, which I usually print off in extremely small numbers and sell fairly quickly. I don't really want to turn my art into anything 'practical' as far as making it my only source of income, but the extra scratch I've been able to bring in thus far has been nice. Once I actually get around to setting up my paypal account and finalizing my Etsy, I hope to get the ball rolling again as far as sales go.

You considered sculpture? Since you do custom vinyls, you have experience painting three-dimensional forms. It's a straight shot from there. I'd recommend this gunk called "Cellu-Clay" which is basically paper mache that you can manipulate like clay. It has a crazy texture when it's dried, and you can make all kinds of awesomely horrible abominations with it. Link me to your Etsy when it's ready, I'm sure I'll find something I like.

Speaking of awesomely horrible abominations, here's a few more of mine.

This one I actually drew in about two minutes at the behest of Matt (Dipstikk) who wanted me to throw out some concepts for a storm elemental. I sent him the design via phone using the phone's camera. Now it's scanned.

A seriously fucked-up rendition of Goofy. There's one or two pages of my sketchbook filled to the edges with just twisted versions of classic cartoon characters. I'll scan them and put them up when I get around to it.

My style seems to drift between Kieth, Bisley, and Wood. My painting style is either really thick and clunky like Bisley's, or kind of ethereal like Giger or early Wood. I'm trying to zero in on a more consistent style that finds a balance between all of these guys. It's sometimes difficult to homogenize though, because their work is so vastly different.

Ashley Wood's earlier work was an especially significant influence to me...

Oh Sam & Twitch.

The above image really reminded me of Kieth's Legs.

And this one really reminded me of Maxx because of the shape of the spine and feet. The line work and facial expression also really reminded me of Kieth. Still good stuff, though.

It's interesting to dissect one's artistic patterns. For instance, the hunched over gunman has core elements of Bisley and TenNapel's styles, but turns out looking like Kieth. That's kind of cool. But also lets me know I need to get my shit in gear and start being more original. Haha.

RIGHT. I fall in love with everything I'm working on while I'm working on it, but as soon as I'm done, I hate it more than anyone I've ever woken up next to after a one night stand. So I turn to Dorian for support, and..I don't know, ego stroking. But she's usually just like, "Meh, this could be better, you fucked this up, it looks like this other thing you did six weeks ago, it reminds me of so-and-so.."

Heart breaking.

ha.

Nikki keeps me in line. She's always encouraging me to draw out of my comfort zone, and I'm always telling her to shut up and make me a sandwich.

No but really, I do appreciate the few friends I have that give actual constructive criticism and aren't just perpetually spewing praise and asking me to draw them shit. In grade school, especially, I would get all kinds of requests. Usually for shit I had absolutely no interest in drawing. One of my friends was always pestering me to draw hockey-related things for him. What a cunt.

Almost all of my prospective projects are film-related. Dystopia being my pet project.
Dystopia is a post apocalyptic film, but instead of being dreary and monotone like The Road or Children of Men, it's more like a zanier version of Mad Max/Tank Girl. I have like 3/4ths of the script written in chicken scratch on an office notepad, with tons of little drawings in the margins.

I'll throw up some of the concepts for it while I'm at it....

TO be fair... What other projects exactly? What don't I like? THere's the Arenas project, but you really never finish anything(except the Aernas thing since its something that you are collaborating on).

I don't understand why you'd say I'm not interested in your projects. You know I love your talent. I liked hearing about Leech too. And a bunch of other stuff.

But you have a lot of unfinished ideas.

Edit: On a side-note.... Browsing this thread made me want to draw again... so Im gonna spend the day drawing... I've been having a dry spell for so long ._.

Are you going to participate in that drawing group I added you to on facebook? So far most of the members seem to be sort of..Crap, but the idea of the group itself seems like it will be pretty challenging in that you'll have to draw something you normally wouldn't, or at least wouldn't want to. I haven't yet, just because the words of the day so far have been stupid.

More on topic, I wish that you were less distant so that we could collaborate on a comic. Seriously. I am not doubting your writing ability, but I am doubting my drawing ability. Well, my ability to consistently draw the same things/people/backgrounds again and again. That's why the comics I do put out are short and basic. I'm pretty solid at inking, though. And writing.

But yeah, I could collaborate the fuck out of a comic with you, I think. Especially a post apocalyptic book, that being my favorite fucking genre ever.

MOVE TO SEATTLE

I was just joking around, love. I know you love my work.

Most of my work isn't finished. Honestly they're all just pipe dreams until I actually get my shit together and make some money and earn some credibility.

As far as prospective projects go, I still have to finish Henry's Inferno (ugh). And I'm currently working on the script for The Copse and Christmas Suicide.

Oh, and DI, you may or may not be interested to know that I got express permission from the creator of Sexy Losers to adapt it into a film, and the script is in the works. I'll be following the "Suicide Girl" story arc, with some of the unrelated, one-page vignettes thrown into the mix.

As for comic collaboration, I'm sure Mat can shed some light on how unreliable I am in that department. I tried with all my might to collaborate with him on one, but I was like... 15 at the time and my attention span was that of a goldfish. I think I'd be better at it now though. I've been working on my projects in increasingly-consistent cycles, and I'm getting used to just how long it takes to flesh out a good story.

Also, funny you should mention Seattle. I would love to live there. Coffee, seafood and rain = my personal heaven.

Seattle is sort of pricey, but it's good for selling art. Although the surrounding areas are cheap. We live across the sound from Seattle [which is a free one hour ferry ride away] and we pay $500 a month for a one bedroom cottage. Which is pretty average.

Would seriously be interested in a collaboration, though. Seriously. And this is coming from me, the guy who refuses to talk to anyone, let alone work with anyone.

Also, kudos on the movie rights. Very cool. Very, very cool.
