Mine over Matter

Story: Up on a tall, looming mountain covered in forests exists a small, hidden underworld society of many cretins. Outlaws, murderers, thieves, and con artists have attacked many nearby towns, depriving them of money, equipment, and peace, then bring with them what they can to their secret cave systems. These areas must be scaled up from cliffs, rocky surfaces, and large forests around the mountains. This long twisting maze of nature is what kept the Outlaws from being captured after committing a serious crime. It seemed as though they were a powerful gang.

Recently however, the great, money-grabby Wolvark known as Boss Hoss stomped his scaly feet into the mountain. Mining was his business, money was his passion, and this landscape held money. There were a few cliffs and small streaming rivers. Within the land were valuable minerals and other materials, it was practically like digging up money yourself! Immediatley, Hoss's mining operation began. Powerful hoses, sometimes controlled by someone, were aimed at the small cliffs. They blasted powerful, high-pressurized blasts of water at the small cliffs, weakening them so that the buried minerals would gradually be freed from the mountain's grasp. The water eventually pushes down the minerals with it into a collective stream. It would then flow down many ditches and wooden sluices. Around these sluices, the workers would pan for the minerals, while the rest of the dirt and crap ran off into natives' fishing areas below.

The Mine town is not too far away from the actual mining operations. Far enough away to avoid the loud noise of hydraulic mining, but close enough to be under the not-so watchful eyes of Boss Hoss, literally just a forest and few cliffs away, leading back to the mining operations through use of cave shortcuts or rope ladders. It is small, wooden, but has plenty of homes, shops, and a saloon for miners, their families, or just people visiting/movng in.

THE PROBLEM: The secret Outlaw gang that call the mountain their fortress have been getting annoyed with Hoss's mining operations. They've threatened townspeople, attacked the places of operation, and claim that they will fully destroy the town if they don't get a fair share of money that Hoss makes from his business. This can easily discourage miners and their families, so Hoss desperatley seeks out help. What he needs is true authority in this land to keep his mining alive. The Outlaws enter and exit the town as they please, not always causing trouble, but they definitley aren't always wanted by Hoss ...

---------------------------------
My Characters,

Name: Hoss
Species: Wolvark
Gender: Male
Age: 46 (Earth Years)
Position: Owner of hydraulic mining system and mine town business
Personality: Simplest way to describe Hoss: Avaricious. Greed for money and riches is what drives this fat wolvark and he doesn’t like it when people get in his way. Hoss does have some sense of self-control however. He keeps what lowly self-respect he has, and would get his money through either others’ hardwork (Official business-like) or through shady deals with others. Hoss is prone to blaming others for his own faults, and is easily annoyed. But even so, he shows some mercy towards others. He doesn't like Outlaws much, but can be persuaded to having to work with them.
Appearance: Like any other Wolvark although, he's slightly fatter. He wears a small, brown animal hide vest, wears torn up jeans, no shoes, and his belly can be seen in plain sight.
History: A wolvark that was born in a less-likely place, the cities. He grew up as an excellent student at his schools, but also as a rough, monstrous thug on the streets. However, as his schooling got in the way of his business with his old gang, he was forced to move out of the city out of threat of being killed. Deciding to live less dangerously, he moved out into Western Mudos, where he could find more Wolvarks to relate to. There, he began hiring multiple creatures, making shady deals with multiple businesses, and found the very mountain that he started his operations. Now, he desperatley seeks authority over the Outlaw threats.

Name: Hydra
Species: Grubb
Age: 22 (Earth years)
Gender: Female
Position: Hoss's assistant, errand girl, spy, and expert illusionist
Personality: Hydra is cunning and an adequate schemer. When needed, she sits back to study the situation and then tries to figure out how to make things go her own way. Even if it means tricking a few people. Otherwise, she can be quite friendly. Hydra has a nack for magic tricks and is such a skilled illusionist that she makes them all appear so easy.
Appearance: A yellowish greenish Grubb. She has dark eye lashes and two big eyeballs on her head. She wears a light blue robe similair to a kimono and ties a black sash around herself. Her sleeves are so long you can only see her green fingers. And her robe is so long that you can't see her green feet.
History: Hydra used to live in Western Mudos, until she was captured and enslaved by the ongoing idea of industrialism. She was taken away from her natural habitat and into a scary looking pie factory. It didn't take long for her to get used to it and surpass other employees, but those same jealous employees got her into big trouble. The Grubb was immediatley kicked out by the Gluks, and forced to live in a harsh wilderness. There, she briefly lived with a native water-going tribe known as Akuafobeea, until she was bought out by Boss Hoss. Her life now mostly consists of running errands for Hoss, spying on Hoss's suspiscious persons, and performing magic to boost happiness around town.

Name: Mafisto Vuhyophace
Species: Outlaw
Gender: Male
Age: 30 (Earth years)
Position: Wanted Outlaw
Personality: Tempermental, brutish, and enjoys causing trouble. He rarely ever speaks. And when he does, it sounds more like growls and snarrls. He has a sadistic nature, enjoying the misery that befalls on others, even his own fellow pack members.
Appearance: Massive. Mafisto is taller than a scrab, and this guy is hunchbacked! He has two giant green shoulders and arms like a gorilla, and two short scally legs. He wears a torn black vest and black shorts. Over his face is a dark, rusted helmet. One can only see his huge bubbly eyes if his helmet is taken off. On the sides of his head are two, tiny bull horns.
Equipment: Large shank hidden on him, and he occaisonally brings out a rifle whenever he feels he needs
History: Born and raised by the best outlaws a kid could ever ask for. His Ma and Pa, if they hadn't died from a shoot-out, would be mighty proud of him now. He is wanted for the murder and consumption of Clackkerzz, Grubbs, and any other tasty creature that pisses him off.

RPG BEGINS AS SOON AS WE GET 4 OTHER USERS AND ATLEAST 2 MINER CHARACTERS. THE MINING WILL NOT START IMMEDIATLEY, FOR IT IS EARLY MORNING, GIVING MORE FREE TIME TO CHARACTERS UNTIL MINING STARTS.

Name: Dorrel.

Species: mudokon.

Gender: male.

Age: 23 (average 40 years).

Position: local cheap merchant, petty thief, person with many (illegal) contacts.

Personality: he comes across in his mannerisms and appearance as being two-faced, and a bit of a liar, and yet when it comes down to business he is very competent. he views everyone he meets as a potential customer, so he is rarely nasty to anyone and will often try to admire/flatter them for the sake of gaining money, enhancing his sly nature. due to this, he attracts the more timid of types to his dodgy business as well as the brutes.

Appearance: sly, shady, generally distrustful. wears tatty brown trousers, an unbuttoned white shirt, and has a scruffy top hat (similar to Doc's one in SW) perched on his head.

Equipment(Optional): carries a very small blade tucked inside his left sleeve, and a larger flick knife in his trouser pocket. also has a small screwdriver hidden inside his top hat via a makeshift, badly sewn pocket.

History: after working at a small motor parts company for the first 11 years of his life, he had gathered a vast knowledge of machinery, mechanics and some electronics, too. adding this knowledge to his sly thinking resulted in his escape, and he wandered through towns connected by dirt tracks, gathering information about nearby industrial facilities only to sneak in at night and steal valuable possessions. he'd sell them to the next town he visited, and then did exactly the same again. it wasn't long before he started to do paid jobs involving breaking and entering, robbery, and in one instance, kidnapping, for certain 'clients'.

by the time he reached 20 years of age, he had found the caverns referred to as the Outlaws fortress, and begun his business there, too. he had the advantage of not being tied down to a certain group of clientèle; it worked on a first come, first serve basis. but this time it wasn't breaking into nearby factories, it consisted more of finding the Outlaws certain equipment, weaponry, and the occasional house break-in. he has remained here ever since, happy enough to live off the moolah he is paid for the jobs he does, and has a certain amount of protection due to his valuable services and his accumulated set of contacts throughout the years. but since Boss Hoss moved into town, Dorrel thinks he's struck gold.

---

i'll probably make a mining character too, but i need SLEEP at the moment.

EDIT:

Name: Barry.

Species: wolvark.

Gender: male.

Age: 24

Position: working class wolvark, works as a miner for Boss Hoss.

Personality: Barry is simple-minded, and is content to work his life away while spending what little moolah he has at the town saloon. he doesn't get on with law-breakers, seeing them as bad for the town's 'atmosphere'. he puts up with them, though.

Appearance: typical wolvark, with a worn blue jacket, black dusty trousers and heavy, steel toe capped boots. he also wears heavy-duty leather gloves (elum skin), which he only ever takes off once he's finished work. of course, all of this clothing is just for his mining job.

Equipment(Optional): carries a hammer tucked into his belt for work. especially useful if a machine motor gives up: a few thumps and its usually running smoothly again.

History: Barry has lived in this area all his life, its all he's ever known, therefore it can be fairly easy to amaze him with some new technology that isn't to do with mining or fishing. before he got a job as a miner, he used to fish for a living. it was simple: he'd fish a nearby lake from a secluded area where the fish liked to gather, catch a good load, and take them back to town to sell on the day. as long as his fishing skills didn't fail him back then, he wouldn't go hungry (or thirsty). since then, he's moved on to a more reliable method of paid work in mining. all in all, Barry lives to work. and he enjoys it.

EDIT 2:

Name: Weer.

Species: slig.

Gender: male.

Age: 10 (average 20 years).

Position: Regional Industry Inspector.

Personality: very annoying. he tries to hide his unimportance and low rank with an irritating tone and miles of paperwork. always looking for a way to sue the next company/industry for breaking some ridiculous regulation and is always pestering the local workforce in an attempt to coax out a complaint or bad safety measure. at times he can even be seen running around after working employees bugging them into asking questions, not caring how silly he looks. he is only interested in finding some 'dirt' so he can either report it back to his headquarters or receive a bribe to keep his mouth shut.

Appearance: wears a fluorescent jacket for on-site use, and a hard-hat. always carries a clipboard and pencil wherever he goes.

Equipment(Optional): other than his hard-hat, clipboard and pencil, he has no other equipment.

History: no one knows much about him, apart from he is a small part of an even smaller branch related to the Magog Cartel. so in other words, his job is to visit new businesses to ensure they follow the codes and regulations that his headquarters set, and to report any abuse of the rules. he must also visit older businesses to ensure they're still following the guidelines set in the last visit. he hasn't actually arrived in the mining town yet, but it won't be long. he isn't meant to stay in one place for too long, either, so its likely he'll only be there for a few weeks.

its part of his job to ensure no one finds these headquarters he receives his orders and information from, so they can avoid any angry business owners/partners/associates from visiting these headquarters and burning them down to the ground. all in all, his job isn't very important or significant, its just another method for the Cartel to line their pockets. BUT, all this in mind, he still has a (low) position in an official organisation, therefore if he spots any serious law-breaking like robbery or violence, then he will be bound by law to report back to his HQ immediately. he is ignorant to the area though, and doesn't even know it harbours outlaws.

Name: Garit
Species: Slig
Gender: Male
Age: In earth years... Something around 23.
Position: Hitchhiker, thief and occasionaly other things.
Personality: Garit's of a quiet type, but can be noisy when angered. Usually with gunshots. He'll steal, he'll pretend to work places he's not employed and stay out of sight for as long as possible. Hitchhiking skills are still developing though.
Appearance: Garit wears a sort of very worn-out poncho and a huge hat, to cover his visor when in dark places, where it's a dead giveaway. He also wears a pair of self-stitched gloves. Needless to say, they don't look great, but they're cheaper than buying them from a store.
Equipment(Optional): A much larger than needed gun, and a pair of pants.
History: Escaping from Slig Barracks as a young slig, he's either been smart or lucky enough to survive long enough to learn ways of making money and things that sligs are normally not adept at. Having been around at Hoss' first mining operation, and other places, Garit's had few business' left to turn to. Most of those weren't even profitable, save for one. An outlaw gang, with easy access to a town, and a good place to hide. Not wanting to do any honest work, Garit was drawn to it. Just outside of town though, he saw a familiar face. Hoss. Guessing that the "mining" operation going on by the cliffside was owned by him, he figured he could steal from there, and save joining the outlaws as a back-up plan.

Well, this still is actually mining. That's what hydraulics are. Now, putting things in simpler words, it's aiming high-powered jets of water from hoses at the sides of a cliff or some other structure that contains the mineral that's being sought after. What happens afterwards depends on how the mining goes, but in this case the water washes the minerals, dirt, and other junk down the mountains and cliffs into wooden sluices. When in the sluices, THAT'S when the panning begins.

While the mining operation is the main setting for the story, it doesn't have to be the entirely central point, as I mention there are other things to be done on the mountains.

Name: Uzbuk the Wonder Sleg
Species: Sleg
Gender: You wanna get close enough to check?
Age: 'Old' is an understatement
Position: A performing Wonder Sleg
Personality: Depends. Has he had any dinner?
Appearance: Yer basic Sleg
Equipment(Optional): Um... well, he's got some teeth. Er, a lot of teeth.
History: Uzbuk was bought... purchased... well, acquired by a Wolvark trainer when he was merely old. They say you can't teach an old Slog new tricks but he seemed to understand that eating people's legs meant he got no dinner... er, well, no second helping anyway. He appreciated the concept that if he jumped through that hoop he got a lump of meat, and if he stood on his back legs he got a lump of meat. The bit about barking a tune was a little more complicated but he figured out eventually that if he did it right he got a lump of meat.

Amazingly, after such a long time of doing tricks, he still hasn't learnt to enjoy it. It's been said, however, that his temperament has improved a lot since his first show, which his trainer agreed with - heck, the entire audience lived last time. However his trainer died not so long ago and now he's on his own. After weeks of barely surviving in the wilds - er, well, after weeks of the wilds barely surviving, anyway - he's come upon Boss Hoss's mining town, and as he knows, things with two legs = food. Double helpings, in fact.

OOC: Looks good so far. Now we may start! Prepare for long intro.

IC:
6:00 AM The sun is just finally out

The day was starting out with some slight winds with a few chills. Dust and tumbleweeds danced their way through into the dusty, shanty Mine Town of the Greedy Boss Hoss. Not too far away, through the shady forests and high, sun-bathed cliffs was the wooden mining operations. The main office, mess hall, and visiting cabins were dark and currently unoccupied. The high-powered hoses that normally spewed a high-pressurized water blast were off silent. And wooden sluices that connected to man-made eroded ditches were empty of water or minerals. It was another simple day to get started.

Back within the dusty mine town was one particular building. It was two stories tall, and made from fine wood. A perculiar blue light could be seen through the red curtains blocking the window. Boss Hoss Wolvark sat down on his cheap, somewhat torn couch. In one hand, a large bottle, the other, a tv remote.

The Wolvark's eyes tried to focus on the local Oddworld news, but it was just too boring! With the press of a button, the image of a Clakkerz anchorman switched over to the Larry Flinger show. "Awright, finally! Somethin' worth my time." He muttered to himself in a relaxed growl. But before he could get comfortable, a popping noise could be heard ..... "Hiya!" Materializing from thin air was the grubb, Hydra, wth a big mischevious smile on her face. "What in the- How'dju .... WHAT in TAAAAARNATION you doin' here?!!!" Hoss yelled at his assistant grubb. She was a mastery at illusion and so it wasn't hard to make herself appear out of nowhere.

"Status report, Boss Hoss! Town's currently empty besides buildins' 'n tumbaweeds! What do I do next?!" She sarcastically saluted her boss. With a growl, Hoss ordered her. "Gal! I want'chu ta jus' get outta ma home! I jus' woke up, I'm still speaking in slurrs! Git 'n checkout the forests just a little while outside 'a town while I git ready. Kay?" "OOOOKAY!" The Grubb saluted again and ran out the door. She stood out in the middle of the dirt road and looked around for action.
--------------------------------------------------

Higher up the rocky, forestial mountain was a cave entrance glowing orange. It was among the multiple entrances that led into the lamp-lit, darkened Outlaw hideout. So of course, it was an Outlaw heading out. The orange glow faded, and from the darkness came a hulking green beast. Mafisto the Outlaw. In his hand was a Clakkerz' drumstick lit on fire. It was a treat the reptillian thug recieved after burning down a Clakkerz' family wagon the night before. Mafisto blew out the flames and swallowed the leg whole, both meat and bones, then ended with a loud belch. But it wasn't enough, he needs more food, the Outlaw thought with a snarrl. Mafisto slowly tromped into the forest not too far from the cave, going down the mountain towards the farther off mining operations ....

EDITED
Name: Athena
Species: Big Bro Slig
Gender: Female
Age: 21 (human years)

Position: Athena started working at Dreg Fuels before spending a short time as a bodyguard for Terrik the Glukkon. Athena worked as a bounty huntress, preferring to work at night if possible. She traveled from town to town, searching for bounties before settling in the Mine town. She has only been successful in two out of five bounty hunts. Two of the bounties left town before she could catch them. Another was taken away by somebody else. She does not know who took the bounty before her, but secretly it makes her very angry.

Personality: Athena has three two personality traits. Her first trait is wisdom. She is smart. Smarter than most Sligs and good at problem solving, which tends to confuse others. Her second trait is her thirst for justice. She simply cannot stand an act of injustice occurring. With this mindset, she doesn't often break the rules. If she does, it's for a good reason. With this sense of extreme justice, making friends could be tricky.

Appearance: Athena is fairly pretty, but non-Sligs wouldn't find anything particularly nice about her. The eyes on her facemask glow brighter than normal. Instead of a red they are a solid hue of yellow. She wears a bra at all times for modesty, but leaves her underbelly exposed. She wears typical Big Bro pants. She has an old fashioned knights visor on the top of her visor, she sets down the visor when she is working with metal or running into fire.

Equipment: Athena carries one submachine guns and two smoke grenades. She often uses simple distratcion traps when she thinks an ambush is likely. She has an old sniper rifle stored away in her bunk in case she needs it.

History: Athena was created in a facility just south of Rupture Farms. Her initial purpose was a morale boost for the other Sligs, but that plan didn't work out. Athena was beautiful sure, but she was also wise. She wouldn't allow herself to be exploited by anyone else. So with this in mind, they send her out to be a bounty hunter. Keen to see her skills in combat.

OOC: Shouldn't this mine town have a name? How about "Hitcher Town"?

IC: Athena sighed in relief. She opened her eyes, her mask glowed yellow from her eye sockets. "I found this place at last" she said, reading the town name above. She clutched her backpack tightly and started walking slowly into the town. A few clakkers walked around the town while Athena looked for a place to stay. She walked along the river until she found a shack with a 'for sale' sign.

'This place would be fantastic for me', she thought. She opened her backpack and took out a small wallet. She approached the nearby clakker and handed him the money. The clakker nodded and walked away, taking the 'for sale' sign with him. She took the backpack off her shoulders and lay back in the armchair and sighed, stretching her large muscles. She relaxed for a few minutes. She then walked out of her hut and admired the view.

OOC: This would be a good time for a new character to greet her, if they'd like.
Enchilado you're such a tease!

OOC: I pretty much agree with Enchilado on this one. Athena doesn't seem like such a bad character for a site that isn't rpg-focused, but posessing several submachine guns, grenades, and mines seems like over-kill, don't cha think, Alexfili? Also, the name of the town is essentially just Hoss's Mine Town, since Boss Hoss is such an egotist.

Uzbuk rounded the corner at a slow, lazy pace. Teeth allowing, his tongue would have lolled from his mouth. As it was he merely shook his head, spraying the ground with spittle. He hadn't eaten for some time, and even then it was only a few chippunks. He'd been living on processed meat for most of his life now, and he thought it was about time he was living on meat that was... well, living.

A faint smell caught his attention, and he sped up. He knew it well - it was a Slig. They were pretty stupid but, to be fair, no more so than Uzbuk. There was something weird about this one, though. An extra scent. Something like - he paused for a moment in a semblance of thinking - yes, something like that which Sleg bitches had when they were in season. Only more Sliggy.

OOC: Okay, I changed my character slightly.

IC: Athena suddenly felt very nervous, "Uh..." She looked around but couldn't see anyone. She decided to have a shower to get rid of the Sliggy odor she'd worked up during the walk here. She removed her Big Bro pants for a moment before lathering up and walking into the bathtub. She rubbed a little harder than usual, she does this every three weeks or so... for various reasons. She always felt weaker at this time of the month.

After a few minutes she grabbed a towel and dried herself off. She put her pants back on and then walked outside. She headed towards the center of town. Hoping to forget her own troubles.

IC: Garit had been in town for about two days, trying to come to grips with the situation. He knew there was an outlaw gang up in the mountain, but he had only seen one of those. A huge, green brute who looked like he could tear anyone or anything apart without breaking a sweat. And that Hoss was using lots and lots of water to get money out of the mountain. Where it went after that, he wasn't sure. Hoss' greedy personality had stuck with him too, as he seemed to either own the town, or have a big influence. Garit hadn't changed much either. He'd refrained from buying a house, when he could find places almost as good. Like empty houses, and the comfier bits of the street.

'Now's the time for action' thought Garit as he stood up and glanced around him. Spying a female big bro slig walking down the river, he followed her, presuming her to be an employee. As it was, that didn't seem to be so as she bought a house, which Garit had actually been eying himself. Shrugging, he decided he'd better leave, before he was noticed. Turning around, he began the not quite so long walk back to town, where he might find Hoss.

IC:
Koimo emerged from the forest to the sight of Hoss's mining town. "finally, another town!" he said to himself. As he came closer to the town he began to realise that there was barely anyone in sight, he could see a Slig, a species he had never encountered before making her way further into town. Koimi could not bring himself to approach her since his only encounters with other races were the bandits.

Then into the distance he saw her, another Grubb (Hydra) "She's sure to help me out!" he said and started making his way towards her. "She's wearing some funny blue clothes, but she is a Grubb" Koimo thought to himself, waving he called out to her as he approched "Hi there, can you help me out?"

OCC: Is Mafisto the Outlaw boss, or is this a no leader gang?
IC: Larz’s alarm clock was loud enough to wake the dead. Larz slammed his fist down on the clock. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, then letting out groan. “I need to switch to digital” he bellowed.

After Larz got dressed, he headed down stairs to make himself breakfast. He opened up his fridge and searched for some eggs. The inside of the fridge was full of beer, half eaten leftovers, and jars filled with unknown substances. Larz pushed the jars aside and grabbed the egg carton, then he spotted the bacon. After he cooked his meal he searched through the drawers for a fork, but there was none. He shrugged and pulled one out of the sink, then sat down to tend to his meal. After eating breakfast, he grabbed his lunchbox and his hard hat and headed to the general store.
=================================================
Carl’s morning was almost no different from Larz’s, only his fridge was clean and he used a clean fork. He grabbed the newspaper and read through the weather section and advertisements.
=================================================
Bruce was already in the forest spying on the town. He could see a few locals emerging from their homes. He pulled out a piece of paper from one of his side pouches and began to take notes. Bruce spied on every one through the scope of his rifle since he forgot his binoculars back at the hide out, but it didn’t bother him much.

He continued lay belly down facing the town, observing their every move, he hoped that nobody could see him moving when he took notes. Bruce also wondered what Mafisto was up too.

OOC: I should have mentioned this earlier, but this Outlaw gang is leaderless. Decisions are made simply through who's stronger or more likable.

IC: The front door swung open. From his wooden shant house emerged a rather pissed off Boss Hoss. From his droopy lips was a dry burp, and then he loud, obnoxious yawn. He definitley did not wish to wake up. Hoss noticed Hydra conversing with a Grubb, but it didn't matter much to the wolvark. For all he knew, that other grubb was just a random friend of hers that he definitley would not wish to meet. "Ding dang grubb scum .... heh ..." Hoss muttered. He stomped across the road and towards the nearby general store entrance, where he bumped into one of his wolvark miners (Larz). "Oh ..... hey there uuuuuuuh ...." Hoss had trouble remembering names of others that he personally cared little about as fellow beings. Specially in a crisis situation involving this outlaw infestation.
------------------------------------------

Hydra's boredom was shaken up by a certain young Grubb running towards her, waving his arms. She always had time to meet a new face, specially a grubb's face. After all, it would give her chance to see more of her kind. Hoss held a certain grudge against most stranger grubbs and would always make them feel unwelcomed, usually making these meetings rare for her. This didn't mean she would be any friendlier tho. "Yes. I CAN help you." she cracked at his question. With a wave of her arm, she vanished in a puff of violet smoke. "But, you'd better make things entertaining before I completley leave ya hanging." Her voice echoed from elsewhere.
------------------------------------------

Mafisto shoved his scrap metal helmet and visor over his eyes. A day as a viscious monster would make plenty of enemies that might try to kill you. He didn't doubt that even a fellow Outlaw may snipe at him from afar ..... The hulking reptillian beast stomped his scaly foot into the dirt. He noticed a familiar Bruce Outlaw spying out on the mine townspeople. Mafisto let out a growl to catch the smaller reptile's attention. Unlike Bruce, who seemed to be trying to hide, Mafisto had no fear of whether or not he was spotted, and stood out, just barely camouflaged into the forest's shadows.

IC: Dorrel, the local spiv, awoke behind a random shack in the town, sun warming his face. you would have thought this would be a nice feeling to awake to, but Dorrel felt quite the opposite. flinging the rag off himself, not caring where it landed, he rubbed his head and unsteadily got to his feet. screwing his tatty top hat on his head rather moodily, he stumbled into the forest not far from town, looking for the Outlaws he did most of his business with.

he'd managed to 'retrieve' a few rifle silencers, and a couple of small gas canisters for these Outlaws in the hope that they would want or need them. he had hidden the silencers within his deep trouser pockets, but the 2 canisters he held in his hands.

suddenly growing slightly more vigilant, he entered the forest.

---

Barry awoke, thumping his head on a low beam of his shack when his radio alarm clock erupted with noise. he fumbled with the 'On/Off' switch and finally ended its screeching, climbing out of his bunk, stretching and cursing at the low beam. looking at the clock that was just about managing to hang on the wall via a bent nail, he saw he had just under an hour to spare before work.

knowing this, he slipped on his scraggy work gloves, plonked himself down on the somewhat broken sofa, and shoved his boots on, not tying the laces: he still didn't know how to tie knots. the only knot he knew how to tie was his fishing knot. he picked up a half drunk cold cup of coffee from a table next to the sofa, and starting drinking it to rid his throat of the 'morning dryness'.

---

Weer arrived in town, out of breath, looking for a place to stay which he could use as his 'base of operations'. swearing under his breath about how far the town was from the nearest railway line, he ventured into the midst of town, clipboard in hand and fluorescent jacket on (even though he wasn't even on site).

noticing a sleg wandering into town, he tutted and noted something down on his clipboard, checking a couple of boxes.
"Wild animals running loose near a working area? dear oh dear." he muttered, shaking his head.

OOC: if Uzbuk isn't actually in town yet, let me know and i'll edit.

IC: Bruce could see Mafisto in the distance. He could tell he was trying to get his attention, so Bruce loaded his rifle with a single shot. Bruce aimed at a thin tree by Mafisto, then shot in two. Bruce chuckled, thinking that it either piss him off or it least make him jump. Bruce also noticed a mudokon(Dorrel) heading into the forrest.

He heard that a merchant was skulking around, so he picked up his rifle and began making his way to him. When Bruce got close enough, he sprang out of hiding with his gun pointed at the mudokon. “Alright Mud, hands up and tell me what’s your business in these woods.”
========================================================
Larz wasn’t surprised to see Hoss forgetting his name for the 100th time. “Larz” he said with a sigh. “Hey boss, I was just heading to the general store. Do you want me to pick ya up anything?”
========================================================
Carl folded the paper neatly and tossed it in the trash. He heard a gunshot and ran to the window, there he saw Larz, Hoss, and a few other locals he did not recognize. Carl could see a bushy moss creature moving in the forests, which meant that the Outlaws were already up and about.

It Made him nervous to think what they would be doing around the town this early in the morning. Everyday Carl hoped that he wouldn’t come face to face with one of the brutes, otherwise he was a goner. Luckily Carl carried that shotgun, which put him a little at ease.
Just too bad he mostly worked away from Larz during his bomb planting.

Uzbuk hurried forward toward the strange Slig, but it was heading away from him, and the sudden whiff of a different smell made him stop. He stood panting for a moment, then turned and trotted back. Up a side street - or rather, the main road that this was a side street of - he smelt what seemed to be the usual sort of Slig, and he struck Uzbuk as an unpleasant sort of fellow. Shaking his head, the Sleg turned around once more and ran back the way he had just come.

IC:
Koimo ran to the female Grubb waving as best he could while carrying a fishing rod and a basket and trying not to knock his wide hat off. As he approched the female Grubb made a wave of her hand and vanished in a puff of smoke, her voice echoing from an unkown location. "By the spirits!" Koimo exclamed and took a step back "what was that?"

He started thinking to himself "Have I gone mad? People don't just disappear" He could see the violet smoke hanging in the air, fading away "No, I can't be going mad. It must be some kind of trick or... Something." Koimo began looking around him but could not see the Grubb anywhere so he yelled out in no particular direction "How am I su..." he was cut short by the sound of a gunshot. The sound of the gunshot surprised Koimo so badly that he fell backwards dropping his rod and basket.

IC: Garit instinctively whipped out his gun, and dove into a bramble of bushes upon hearing the gunshot. With no intention of making himself the next target, he peered through a small gap between the bushes. Now that he was looking, he could see that same huge outlaw, accompanied by another outlaw(Bruce) this time though. Garit could see that the second one was headed a bit away from Garit's position. To what exactly, Garit didn't know, because whatever was over there, was just outside of his range of sight. Not really fancying his chances with either one of those two, he stayed put for a while longer. He also noticed that grubb, Hydra was most likely having a laugh with some mudokon(Koimo), whom he had never seen before. Under other circumstances, he'd probrably ignore this, and he was even more inclined to do the same thing here, with outlaw snipers about.

IC: Dorrel was doing his best at treading lightly, as he knew these Outlaws wouldn't think twice about 'getting rid' of him if he became an annoyance, but evidentally this was not enough. he heard a gunshot fired, pretty close, and was about to turn and run back when an Outlaw jumped out in front of him, gun fixed firmly on himself, demanding an explanation for being in the forest.

Dorrel swallowed, his throat suddenly dry, and attempted to dissuade the Outlaw from killing him.
"Friend, friend!" he said in a false, friendly tone. "My name is Dorrel, and my fine services are yours to call upon." He took off his top hat and made an almost theatrical bow. "i recently came into possession of a few...little trinkets, and wondered whether you would be interested, friend." He said, pulling the 4 rifle silencers from his pocket, and brandishing the 2 small gas cans.

OOC: for anyone confused, the gas cans are very small hand-held ones for flame-throwers and the like, not the huge gas canisters.

---

IC: Barry downed his cold coffee, donned all his work gear, and left his shack for work. whilst on the way, he heard a sharp crack, like a rifle shot, and stopped in his tracks peering over towards the forest. he grumbled disapprovingly and continued on his way.
"Bloody Outlaws."

---

as Weer travelled into the centre of the small town, the gunshot spat through the air and made his weak form jump in surprise.
"My my!" he gasped, frantically scribbling down notes on his clipboard, and checking about 30 boxes. "Illegal use of firearms...use of firearms in a public area...possibly failure to follow through gun safety procedures, i suppose...err...unlicensed firearms? probably. yeah, that'll do it." He finished, feeling slightly elated at such instances happening so early.

he continued to wander around town, eventually spoke to a clakker busy shouting on the porch of a rickety house, and realised it was for sale. bargaining with the clakker, Weer agreed to simply pay rent on the property until he left town, handing over a fat wad of moolah from an even fatter wallet.

IC: "Oh ... Yes ... Larz of course ..." Hoss muttered out the miners' name without much real care. "Eeeeh ... nah. I'll jus' git the stuff maself. Thanks anyway." With the authority of a big boss, Hoss lightly pushed Larz out of his way, about to enter the old rickety store. He jumped into a still position however at the thundering sound of a gunshot. "Oleh HELL!!!" The wolvark had made many deals and promises with other businesses in the past, all of which he never paid fully. For all he knew, this would be an old associate out to kill him. With instinct, Hoss jumped through the window into the store, rather than using the door. He wrapped his arms around his green head.
------------------------------------------
Hydra too heard the shot, and she was freaked out even more. So freaked out, she jumped out of her hiding spot between two buildings. The Grubb dashed over behind her new aqcauntince. "Uuuh ... Y-you were uh ... s-sayin?"
------------------------------------------
Splinters and wood chips exploded from the now destroyed tree, all of which bounced off Mafisto's metal helmet. Although he kept a still, emotionless expression, the Outlaw was quite pissed off. The last time a "fellow" Outlaw pulled a trick like that, the Outlaw's head was inside Mafisto's belly ....

He angrily stomped his scaly feet towards Bruce, eager to break some bones, when all of a sudden this mudokon came by. Mafisto stopped briefly to listen to the Mudokon's offer. He held little interest in it, but some other scumbag beast might like it. Mafisto jumped down next to Bruce, making the sound of a loud thump. He growled loudly at the stranger.

IC: Athena wandered around and picked up a couple of fresh fruits and vegetables. She walked past the general store and saw someone she'd never seen before (Larz).

"Hello. My name is Athena", she holds out her hand for Larz to shake. "Might I ask for your name? (pause) Also I was wondering if you could tell me about this place, I'm kinda new and I just bought a house"

Athena looks around and notices Hoss, giving him a kind of courtsey.

IC: Dorrel had only just finished his proposal when a huge beast of an Outlaw, a monster, jumped beside the other Outlaw with a slight tremor. Dorrel took a step back, looked quickly behind him to ensure he wasn't being surrounded, and turned back to the 2 Outlaws.

suddenly dropping his worried expression, he pinned on a big, fake grin and said in a servant-like tone: "Good evening to you, sir." taking his top hat off again, out of respect, but mostly fear. "I was just telling your associate that, if you wish, i could be quite a handy character to have around, if you want to...you know...get things 'done' without anyone else knowing."

he tried to persuade them some more, hoping he wouldn't cross any lines. "i'm at the top of my game for breaking and entering, robbery, even mechanics! and i do it all stealthily, you see. no one need know." he finished with a tap on the side of his nose. "i only ask for enough moolah in return to feed myself...i haven't eaten for days." he lied. "i mean, that's fair? isn't it?" he said, giving a nervous laugh. he hoped his gift of gab would help him, and not get him eaten alive.

OOC: i'm gonna leave my other 2 characters where they are at the moment, otherwise they're going to be crowded around the mining area. i'll do something with them next post.

IC: Bruce lowered his gun. “Well I guess you could be of some use to us.” Bruce grabbed one of the silencers the mudokon was offering, carfully inspecting it for damage. “How does as average fellow like yourself come by these things? Never mind, I don’t wanna know.” Bruce pulled out a stack of Moolah and handed it to the mudokon, then placed the silencer in one of his pouches. After hearing the mudokon’s offer, Bruce just got an idea that would cause some chaos. Bruce looked at Mafisto with a grin.
“You know all about the mining operation above the town right? Well maybe I might be willing to fork out some Moolah if you could get me some explosives from one of their workers. Not sure which one, but I can count on you to find out.” Bruce swung his rifle around slipped the strap over his shoulder. “Also, there might be a bonus if you could take care of those hoses for us too.”
==========================================
Larz placed his hand in Athena’s palm, which made the hand shake a bit awkward. “Names Larz, I’m a demolitionist up at the mine. It pays well and the only problem is the Outlaws up in the mountains. Last attack was pretty bad, they killed a few of our workers and stole half of the minerals we mined that week. I killed at least one of them, or maybe I just wounded him, I can’t remember for sure.” Larz poured himself some coffee and took a big sip. “Haven’t heard from them in while, other than that shot.”

Larz walked over to the window and gazed out into the forest. He saw a huge figure moving in the forest and assumed it was them.

As Koimo stood himself up again and picked up his things the female Grubb reappeared and ran behind him. "W-what m-me?" he took a deep breath in an attempted to calm himself. "Ok, my pa used to say to me "Son, when the bullets start flyin the Grubbs start hidin" sounds like a plan to me."

Koimo began looking around frantically for somewhere to hide "Over there, that shop" he pointed to the general store "there's people there, better then standing in the middle of the road on our own." he began to dash to the store holding his rod and basket in one hand the other attempting to hold the hat onto his head, glancing back to make sure the other Grubb was with him.
