This week I shall talk about some of my favourite N64 games and why I like them.
Goldeneye 007: I have played this game for the first time ever last week and I have to say, it is a good game. The multiplayer is frantic, fun and awesome. I like the weapon choices and sounds. The music can be a bit corny at times and the maps are too big sometimes, but overall this is a fantastic game.
Mario Party: This is a very varied game with many different minigames. Some of which are absolutely fantastic and could have been games in their own right. Running of the Bulb is almost a precursor to all the co-op zombie games that people play today. Mushroom Mix-Up is a hilarious game where you have to race to different coloured platforms and hip drop onto other people to stop them from doing the same. Mario Bandstand is like an early version of Guitar Hero and Bumper Balls is competitive and chaotic. Grab Bag is a great way of stealing CPU coins. My favourite game boards are Peach’s Birthday Cake and Bowser’s Magma Mountain.
Bomberman 64: In my opinion this game has an exceptional story mode with great plot twists, character costumes and a simply addictive multiplayer mode. You can play with up to 3 of your friends and each of you can have your own costumes. Hands down my favourite Bomberman game and one I recommend to everyone.
Starfox 64/Lylat Wars: Hands down the best rail shooter ever made. I particularly love the dialogue, which is witty and clever. The wingmen are realistic and genuinely feel like real characters whom you develop a protective bond for. Despite being linear there are many side-paths and alternative exits to levels. You will only see 45% of the planets on a single playthrough so each time you play is a different experience.
Turok Rage Wars: This is an awesome first-person shooter. It’s main feature is the multiplayer bots, so that you can play deathmatch with just one person. There are also compelling 1 player trial modes where you can earn medals and unlock characters. The weapon choices are varied and the game is action-packed. Never has it been so much fun to play as a raptor.
These are my favourite N64 games. Feel free to look for some footage on youtube and make your own verdicts. Any comments?
I've been playing Starfox 64 lately after buying it on Virtual Console, and it's been giving me a really tough time. I don't have the best depth perception/reflexes/patience, so getting a game over on the second last level and having to start over is incredibly discouraging. Very fun game, though.
Ah, we are high school boys,
the miserable high school boys.
If we were girls, we could get popular by doing anything:
rock band, jazz band,
karate, kendo, mahjong, cyborg, synchronized swimming...
On the other hand, high school boys are
useless outside battle and sports anime.
But they're recklessly trying to make a slice-of-life anime about us.

I wanted to get Turok, but my mom wouldn't let me.
You didn't miss out on much, Goldeneye was much more fun. I think even that crappy Star Wars game, Shadows of the Empire, was a bit more fun than that IMO.
Anyway, I only voted for Super Mario 64 because that game is tied to many memories for me. It's a shame I never owned the N64, I'd have loved to try out Ocarina of Time and Star Fox properly back in the day, but never had the opportunity to play through them enough to really get to know them.
Yeah I could emulate them now if I wanted - I have since experienced the Gamecube version of OoT that was bundled with Wind Waker, but after experiencing both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess immediately beforehand, it was hard to enjoy.
@DarkHoodness you mean well, but you made the mistake of picking the first game in the series to showcase it. That's like picking Super Mario 64 instead of Super Mario Galaxy.

That's no excuse to make a bad game, look at Oddworld or Half-Life. Both the first games of those series are still very much playable. Even SM 64 is still good considering it was the first 3D Mario and something new for the time.
FUN FACT: ID Software wanted to make the next Commander Keen (old, popular DOS platformer) in the same style as Mario 64, and were dismayed when Nintendo beat them to it.
Absolutely. Turok 64 was rushed and had lots of fog and bad blood effects. Turok 2 was lovingly crafted and it got near perfect scores for outstanding graphics. I also recommend Turok Rage Wars if you like multiplayer FPS games (with bots!)
I think it's a classic, and well worth your money.

What I've play so far, its Super Mario 64 with A LOT more collectables.
Don't forget better mechanics, characters, humour, music and worlds.

I probably would've chose Banjo-Kazooie or OoT if they were on the list.
Goldeneye is probably the only FPS i've played that made me want to continue playing for more than a day but that's talking mostly about the multiplayer mode.
My favourite N64 game would have to be smash bros though as I had so much fun playing 4 player when I was younger.

I'm looking forward to trying some of the higher level difficulties on Goldeneye. I managed to get enough medals on Turok Rage Wars to unlock all characters and some other cheats like infinite ammo which is nice. I'll try and complete a few more challenges on that game.
Super Paper Mario is also a good game. It's not an RPG in terms of battles, but it's setup like an RPG and is very funny.
I can't choose.. Tie between Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Party.
I will forever regret giving away that Nintendo 64.. Still pissed off at myself to this day. :l
Loved playing Goldeneye 007 late at night with my dad, bro, and twin. Aimlessly roaming around the dark places, then getting shot when you least expect it. Ah, good times, man.
