Idea Something cool id like to see.

Today as i was playing Abe's Exoddus for the billionth time, i thought of a really neat idea.

in some games, you can have to option to use some set of voice commands that the game will recognise and then the game will do what you orered (basd on how it was programed and for what purpose it serves in the game.

Id like to be able to not only use the controls for the gamespeak, but also be able to hook up a mic to my console controller, and be able to say "Hello, Follow me, wait, work" etc. and the mudokons actually respond.

That would be kinda nifty, dont you think?

Assuming the player has a mic, or that the system can actually recognize what you're saying. It might be too complicated to do. Plus, there are players like me who are introverted and don't talk much, so a mic is possibly going to be irritating for those players.

As long as the commands are simple, I don't think this would be too hard to implement.
This game did it and it worked pretty well.

I personally don't see the appeal of talking with the game, but if that's what you enjoy...

I like this idea! But this should be very good voice recognising system or we've got many dead poor Mudokons and wasted nerves
Remember me and my friend taught puppies in Nintendogs, it was fun but hard because game memorized the command with intonation that was first sayed. Change it and dog won't understand you. So they should rework problems like this and made alternative old style scheme for thous who don't have mic.
But how will temple puzzles (if any appear) work? Will we have to sing?

I want to see game wich really understands what you're talking about and responds, creating illusion of you have a dialog with character, for very very long time. Last time I thought about it was when I played again in advanced life simulator called Creatures (windows 98, it still works!). Appearance very similar to Oddworld, by the way.

Oddworld variation of Cortana. Mudobot.

Whistle puzzles would be funny thought. Actually having to fart to mic. Better make coffee pot nearby.

Please don't add horrible 1990s gimmicks into the game.

People who want them to work on improving other, actually important parts of the game instead of something completely pointless?

This actually sounds fun and easily doable.

Basically you need a voice recognition software that activates certains keyboard buttons based on your vocal command. No need to mod the game or anything.

Scentscape for the smell of dead mudokons and fired guns? Oh and don't forget the sewer crawling fleeches and flying farts. That would be a great addition to my lounge room!

No please, my cat farts enough. I don't want Abe to join the party too.

Btw voice command sounds like a good idea, quite optional tho. But it remains a good idea.

You realize this can be implemented in a way that doesn't affect original gamespeak mechanics?
Personally I'm all for unique mechanics like that even if it's thrown in for the sake of flavor content :P

Could be interesting, though I'd be unsure about the player effectively replacing Abe. A lot of his appeal comes from his voice, it's his personality and integral to the character. To play as Abe but not hear Abe, would seem like something important is missing to me.

But give me a new Judge Dredd game with the ability to switch ammo type with voice command. That'd be cool
