Earth v Oddworld

If human space ships in the future discovered Oddworld...or their spaceships discovered us...what would happen?

I think somone made a thread like this already bur anyway, I think that Earth would make a peaceful agreenment with Oddworld, well unless industrials meet humans. Then there would probably be a war and Earth would definately win.

In my thoughts, Oddworld is too big for us to know if we would have peace or not. If we focus on what we already know, Oddworld would degrade us. Mudokons would think we are like the industerials, sending probes all the time, which doesn't make a good first impression. Grubbs would not like to know that some of us like to build dams. Gabbits would be worried if we would cut them up. Glukkons would only be interested in us for our cigarites. Vykkers wouldn't care, for we don't even have flying labs. Wildlife would mistaken us for mutant Mudokons and eat us. Steefs, kill us for our known popularity of wiping out spieces. Sligs would think of cold slavery. Clakkez, what do they care? Outlaws/Zugs would think our taste in hats is disgusting. Yep, that pretty much sums it up in what they would think of us.

Pfft. Oddworld would wreck us. It'd be the industrialists that find us of course and they'd just overwhelm us with countless sligs. Besides I doubt Earth would unite together to fight back. Do you really think the industrialists would want to establish a peaceful settlement?

This is always a hard one. We would want to make peace at first. Try and have a relationship involving Trade with the Glukkons and other higher up species. Maybe even share some technology. But then the Hippies would point out that a lot of their stuff involves slave labor and the eating of intelligence species. This would lead to a boycott of products then it would more than likely lead to a war. With technology roughly the same for both species then I would like to think that we would win since we have the whole "Shoot to Kill" thing going for us.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Differences in trading practices on Earth haven't led to a major war, have they? Excepting where it's the oppressed themselves fighting with their oppressors, of course.

I figure the money-grubbing, heartless industrialists of our world would take every opportunity they could to trade and work with their Oddworld counterparts. The native races would inevitably receive aid from Earth charities, something we've never seen on Oddworld. I don't think any relationship would have the simplicity of all of Earth versus all of Oddworld.

p.s. Thinking more about it, I realise the American civil war (which prompted me to add the above exception) was between two groups with conflicting trade practices. It's still different than a conflict between Earth and Oddworld in that one of the two groups' was disobeying rules from their governing body.

What did settlers of the new world do to the indians here
in America. What did thay do to the africans. They enslaved
them. Do you guys really think if we ever hit oddworld and
met the mudokons first that we wouldn't do (clacks mouth) to
them. Once we realized all the wonderful resouces oddworld has to offer
we would be kicking all sorts of creatures out of their habitats
and killing certain species off. Same thing we almost
did with the buffalo in America and elsewise.

It would take a while before we realized that animals in
oddworld have feelings and feel pains too.

P.S. I'm not saying that slavery only started around the
time of the new world. Heck no.

To expand on that, humanity is now much more concerned about resources and exploitation. If Earth encountering Oddworld was in our public domain, I don't think Earth's governments and big industries could get away with a slave trade or environmental exploitation without much flack. Which isn't to say they wouldn't try.

I can't vote because I don't see any single of those outcomes being necessarily true.

What else could possibly happen? Either it's peaceful, or there's a war in which someone wins.

If you define peace as there not being a military war, then yeah. But what about the complexities of trade, politics, œconomics and so on? Or even migration between the two. Or the way religions on either side interpret the existence of the other.

So I'll go by what you call ‘peace’

All you need is one person to tell you how things run and
that it is comfortable that way ( from their point of veiw),
and everyone else will follow along. Sort of like tipping dominos
that are lined up. If one falls the rest are just as likely.

Actually there are still slaves in third world countries.
In places like Africa, people submit themselves into slavery to
pay off debt that are likely never to be payed. Matter of fact
I do research on modern slavery every day. Other places they
are still being forced into it.

Something says Earth is truly not the most civilized place.
And I'm confident it is not.

OT: what do you think of alf's adventures? i was going to write about alf's travels around oddworld while we were all waiting for the official odd site to be updated,(or at least till' he came back) and i was going to let everyone contribute, since it will be very long.

Well, I haven't exactly went so far as to see what the vehicles
the Oddworld Corps use look like. I guess meetles could sort of
be like living tanks since they can walk on the ground too.

You know, I don't know which side to go along with. I
mean Earth has a lot of thing Oddworld doesn't. So
maybe someone should make a list to compare Oddworld's
machinery and creatures to Earth's gadgets, so we get
a better picture.
