I just have a stupid question that eats away at the back of my mind.

Well...Not much people seem to respect people, their feelings and stuff. There is flaming, but nothing is done about it unless it comes with a list of swearwords. People seem to flame but keep under the rader or whatever. Anyway, my question is: how bad do people have to insult people to get an infraction?

Weeellllllll I dunno really. Something that could stop the trolly mess, negative attitude and do more about the insults would be fun, but I might as well expect a giant naked armoured epic flying [color=pink]pink[/pink] kodo to smash through my window. I have no idea. I've seen three people leave so far due to the mudslingingness.

Aaaaanyway sorta on topic...There was a sticky saying to spell right and not use caps, but if people use lack of spellingness or all caps in a joking matter, the rule seems to be disregarded, it smells like double standards 8/.

I guess the point I'd like to make is: I think the place should be stricter on the meanness, or at least do meanness less often. I dunno how to use the words to express myself 8O.

While I will admit I am lenient to members who have a similar posting style to me, the overlap of the moderation sections and the active administration staff make sure that anything one mod lets slip another will catch.

Our policy has always been one of letting the mods decide what crosses the line however as you cannot quantify meanness. Feel free to use the report post button though if you feel we're missing something.

All that’s made it popular is the large number of people here that are satirical. It’s something a lot of members have done at some point or another, just with varying consistency. Obviously you don’t have this mindset, but maybe it takes this mindset to be able to distinguish between comments that are more light‐hearted and intended to amuse from those that are actually liable to offend, whether purposefully or not.

If it’s done in a joking way, then it’s done self‐consciously for the humour of it. Poor language becomes a problem when people use it trying to express themselves sincerely. It can be hard to understand and tiresome to bother trying. If you don’t understand the intentional and joking use of seemingly poor language, then just accept it’s a joke you don’t get and move on, same with any other joke.

Eh, I kinda stopped reporting posts after a while because I got PMed by a mod not to. I think I overdid it, but still...I don't feel confident reporting something unless its riddled with swearwords, and most people are too smart to do that anyways.

Well, any use of discrimination should get someone infracted, wqhether it be about someone's gender, race, age, beliefs, history or condition, but people who go about calling people thing's like wusses or asses should just be ignored.
So basically, I think that there should be a set level, and that any form of discimination would be above the level.
Am I confusing anyone yet?

You cannot quantify something like that and on what level someone will take it.

For an example:

I frequently use homophobic slurs or whatever to good friends but it isn't meant in the same way as if some northern youth with a shaved head is shouting it across the street at someone.

It is easy to see where the line should be drawn in an argument, and it is also easy to see when a line has been crossed. Unfortunately we have to do it on a case by case basis so we can't have set levels of this is allowed this isn't.

This is certainly true. There have been times when I've infracted people that other mods have thought were fine. There has even been a time that I've reversed an infraction because another moderator objected. When it's a particularly thorny issue, we'll discuss it in EL or over MSN. Suffice to say that there is quite a lot of thought put into the fairness of the moderation.
