Hey! Been a long time since I posted anything in the fan corner! So I was playing New 'n' Tasty again recently and decided to create an Oddworld wallpaper for my phone, being in the mood and all! And I went a little overboard perhaps.
There are two images: lock and home screen. They're custom designed to match the layout of my phone- that is, an iPhone 5, still running iOS 7 (i think!), with 5 pages across the home screen. My apps are categorised so I never actually use a fifth row near the bottom, which left a nice amount of space free for the background
Rather than having a general picture stuck behind my apps + info, I wanted something that fits properly and looks decent even against the lack of a consistent colour scheme of the app icons. Trying to get a good image that doesn't end up getting part covered by text and apps can be tricky, so I took note of what space would remain visible and used it as far as possible.
Essentially, I tried to find a way to make the apps and on-screen info
part of the design, so everything feels cohesive! I guess it's more like a theme than a wallpaper in that sense, without actually changing the app icons etc.
Lock screen
i) A broken area in the stone provides a shadowed area to contrast against the date and time info
ii) Thought it would be cool to include a New 'n' Tasty menu bar behind the 'slide to unlock' text, so it feels more authentic to the in game screen
iii) Completely unnecessary but the added game/OWI logos make it feel more professional and add a nice sense of balance from the camera icon opposite
Home screen
i) The signal, time and battery status icons appear on a RuptureFarms LCD screen
ii) The app icons also appear on RuptureFarms LCD screens- designed slightly bigger than the icons, this gives the effect of a grungy pipe frame around each icon, and where an icon is missing, the blank orange LCD shows through.
iii) The four apps at the bottom are neatly sectioned off with a RuptureFarms platform, which forms the basis for:
iv) Don't know what to call these
Those little translucent white dots at the bottom that show how many screens of apps you have- I designed borders for these based on those little green lights that run along the RuptureFarms platforms. So the dots themselves resemble platform lights, with a green glow! The screen you are on displays a solid white circle, which makes it look like that 'light' is on.
The process: Too much time, too little sleep, google images, photoshop feathered brushes and a LOT of clone stamp tool
The blank images:
I'm very pleased with the results! I know the specifications are pretty, well,
specific... but thought I'd share in case anyone else happens to have an iPhone with the same layout, and wanted to use them
If not, it's always entertaining to see what you guys think!
PS: Would have liked to display the images full size in the post, but not sure how
