Oddworld OddRun

This project was started on 28.02.2014 by me.
I had never created any games before that time.





Genre: casual runner.

Controls: touch the upper side of screen to jump, the lower to roll (you can roll in the air too). If you die, wait until the "dead mudokon sign" appears and press anywhere on the screen to restart".

Objective: no such currently. But you gain score for running.

Obstacles/enemies: currently only landmines and flying bombs.

Environment/areas: currently only Scrabania.

Soon: nothing.

What could YOU do: give an advice, tell a bug, provide with BGrounds (AO cam size) and FG objects.

The project is suspended forever. It is already nothing to add to without changing the genre.

What is missing and shall not be added (as there is no interest):
-sounds;
-save system;
-game icon and name.

Your advice may relaunch the development (every idea is accepted, if it may be applied to the "runner" genre).

What is your android version? The game was tested only on Samsung S3 and S5 with android 4.0+.

I don't own anything that runs Android that I'd be able to run this with. Also I honestly find it kind of immature of you to claim that a 'very early alpha' game has no interest after 10 hours of no comments. I understand that this might be your first posted project here, but people rarely go to the fan corner; and if there's no interest for it then it's up to you as a developer to make that interest. Write a blog about your game, upload more high quality screenshots, try using some screen capture software so people can see your game actually working.

Just keep at it and you'll get somewhere, somehow.

You got it a bit wrong. There is no MY interest, as there is nothing else to add to the gameplay without changing the genre and being close to Oddworld and I am currently too busy with the competitions.

Still, the fixed version for Job shall be done.

FIXED(maybe) by lowering the API (3.2+ now, it was 4.3 + before):

It worked for me.

I think this would be an awesome little Oddworld-themed run game. You should keep working on it! Add music and sfx, incorporate New hazards (pits, Scrabs that chase you temporarily at certain distance marks maybe?) and fix up the running/jumping animations a little bit.

This definitely has potential

Thank you. However, Scrabs are a bit pointless. Maybe, there may be added the type of scrab and pits course, which is launched between groups of 4 minefields.

The greatest problem, which occured in the development progress was lack of hazards.

Swinging boulders from Abe's Oddysee, Bats that fly in erratic (yet fair) patterns, Make it so that certain things aren't one hit KO's like if you implented the AO bees or something. Also if that screenshot is anything to go by, make some kind of UI even if it's just an LCD monitor hanging down at the top of the screen, as the score currently seems a bit out of place.
I'm afraid I can't be of much more assistance without actually being able to play the game.

But an odd glowing stone pillar displaying LCD characters is completely in the norm?

There would be the final version called "Scrabania MineRun" with extra BG, sounds and the wasps chasing you. No more abilities.

Still better than Flappy Bird. Oh, this project was started as a clone of FB to learn Libgdx, so mission is accomplished, as for me.

I wasn't questioning whether or not you liked it, I never even said my idea was any good at all. All I was saying was that it was a possibilty. I don't need to see it in motion to bring up points about the UI, as a UI should generally be static and constant throughout play, so unless your numbers dance around the screen then that screen shot is adequate enough for me give feedback on.

I'm at a loss for words right now. I don't understand why someone who asks for advice would flat out refuse it. I never said the game was bad, I'm sure it's great. You asked for feedback so I gave it. I'm not attempting to show my "smartness or experience" there are far more people with far more experience than myself.

J_dude brought up a lot of valid points there. I would recommend that gishy tries to take criticism less personally and not argue with those who are trying to provide help. We're not asking you to change your game immediately, we're just offering advice that you're welcome to take on board if you agree with it. If not then the polite thing to do is acknowledge the comment and if you have a valid reason for why that won't happen you can post that too.

You're welcome to say "I understand your opinions and why you have said what you said" but being argumentative will only antagonise your potential fanbase and make getting feedback more difficult.

AlexFili, your words are acceptable. It is simply my pitiful narcissism, which is not compatible with most of people.

Though, Phylum, this is the crowd's opinion. Definitely, I am a 100% attention whore, but "suspended" does not mean "abandoned".

I am constantly playing this like a nerd bitch (my highscore was 19756 or ~5 minutes without mistakes). Certainly, there shall be more.

TO PREVENT FUTURE BITCHINGS:
Please, before you give me "constructive critic" (such a popular word, irritating), play the game. If you are unable to do that, then your comments would be ignored.

1. When you reach 1600n points, the environment toggles (Scrabania|Paramonia). 2. Animation fixes. 3. Music (composed by me, based on the Oddworld Music). 4. Wasps chasing you (just a visual). 5. Color tone fixes. 6. The highscore screen on death (the highest score is depicted on the score).

In fhe future updates:

-powerups (soon);
-texts (with all the forum madness) (extremely soon);
-other obstacles (no ideas of implementation);
-Abe skins (linke Abe with Lorne's head, Abe with a blonde wig, anguishing Abe, DISPEEEHR/suffer, etcetera) (sooner, than powerups);
-port to iOS - only hacked devices (now);
