Due to recent news of upcoming Oddworld projects and the behaviour of many of our members in recent months, a couple of important changes have been made to the Oddworld Forums.
Firstly, it my pleasure to announce that we have two new members of staff.
- T-nex is the new dedicated moderator of Off-Topic discussion. Former mod of the RPG section, she comes with moderating experience and is expected to complement Hobo’s curt pointedness with her nurturing charm.
- dripik is the new dedicated moderator of Fan Corner. With many years’ experience as a respected contributor to both Fan Corner and Oddworld RPG, he is sure to help Splat keep the creative juices of our members flowing.
Best of luck and congratulations to both of you!
Sadly this means that two moderators have had to be demoted in order to make room.
- Bullet Magnet was first given his place amongst the staff on a drunken night in April 2008 when certain attendees of OddTour 3 decided it would be a good idea to make him an Oddworld Discussion mod. Aside from his reassignment the following month to the more appropriate Off-Topic Discussion, it was, and Bullet Magnet has done his share of moderating during his tenure. Unfortunately, it has become apparent that his available time has diminished to the point that we have had to let a good man go.
- Ajiellyn was given her moderator status in Fan Corner in January 2009 following weighted public voting. Her dedication and value to fanfic and fanart are virtually unrivalled, with her Fanfic Library and Oddworld MMOSG making huge marks in the community. Sadly, although she was the right person for the job, her education and family situation have meant the time she can dedicate to Oddworld has dwindled to nothing, and consequently we’ve had to drop her from the team.
The second change is a complete revamp of the Oddworld Forums’ official rules. The rules had grown stale over the years, ignoring many of the changes to the technology and culture of the community that have caused new rules to become necessary. Rather than an amendment to the rules, these are merely a formalizing of the standards to which the moderators and admins have at least tried to hold the Forums.
Please take a look at this fresh rewrite of the rules. They should form a better guideline for the behaviour expected of both new and old members, and for the actions of the moderating team. It’s my hope that they’ll be adhered to more strongly than they have over the past few months. If you have any questions or comments please do share them.
Yours,
Max and the moderating team
