Happy Some old, but interesting pictures.

Hello, all!

I was on eBay, looking for some Oddworld Merchandise, when I came upon a Hulk figure. Wondering what this had to do with Oddworld, I looked into the item description, and saw that the same people that made the statue, had been a major part the production of Abe's Oddysee.

They are known as the Shieflett Brothers, and are extremely friendly. I talked to Brandon (I think that the other ones name is Jaron), asking him if he still had some of the pictures, and he said that he would be more than willing to send some to me.

~~~
Also, many Kudos to Max! For providing me with some info on these, that I'm still not too sure about... But he seemed to have some knowlege on these, so you can ask him.
~~~

Enjoy!

EDIT: Also, in the very near future, I will be asking Brandon if he would be willing to supply me with some more pictures. He may not have anymore, but if he does, I'm sure he would love to share them.

To anyone who's not yet registered their awe, these are simply fantastic pictures. These models were created and scanned to render the models of Abe and co. that were used in the game's movies. They remained on display in OWI's studios in SLO, and were somewhat iconic signatures that could be found on almost any set of photos taken of the interior. Seeing photos of them in creation is quite stunning. It's rare that we'd see an early script for the games.

So well done, Cullen, I was muchly impressed to see these.

It's a pretty amazing skill to take a 2d design and flesh it out in 3d.

Certainly not something I could do...

Was Elum even in any of the movie parts? i don't think he was. Poor thing. That model is big, though. These are amazing. Is he selling these on Ebay?*shot*
Sincerely doubt it, though.

Only the stranger statue is too small. I don't know where I could find it larger () It was the only one I found...

At first glance it looks as if it was drawn on paper.
I suppose it's just darkened plastic, is it? Neat.

It's made of bronze, as stated here, under 'Producers'.

Hey, guys!

Brandon just got back to me.

I told him about this Forum, and how you loved their work. He says that he really appriciated the interest. And also he did a little extra for you guys!

He wrote me out the story of he and his brother Jarrod meeting Lorne. Here ya are!:
"Lorne found my brother and I when we were dispaying our work at the San Diego Comic Convention Art Show. We were not even professionals at that point, but he like the look of our work and eventually asked us to work on the project. Lorne is an incredible artist himself and seeing many of his paintings convinced us to do it. Remember nobody had ever heard of Oddworld at this point. Also, the work of Steve Olds was awesome. We were really just sculpting Steve Olds 2D visions. Jarrod and I only made up what wasn't seen in the sketches (around the backs, etc.). We had never worked so large (about two feet tall) and had cracking problems with many of these sculpts but we're much more seasoned professionals now!

Though we were in Texas, we were in constant contact with Lorne and Steve. Sending videos and photos back and forth for them to look at and give suggestions on improvements. Lorne was always open to what we had to say as well.

I tell you, we've worked on a number of games (we're in the statue industry now) but none as cool as Oddworld and we never worked on a game with artists the caliber of Lorne and Steve.

We still talk to Lorne every once in a while (mostly trading emails) and we see Steve Olds and his family at the San Diego Con as well. Great guys."

Neat story, huh?
Anyways, in the email, he said that he was going to look around for some more production pictures, and he would get back to me after that!

ALSO! PEOPLE, BE SURE TO VISIT THEIR WEB-SITE! It's awesome! www.shiflettbrothers.com

I'll keep all of you posted.

Alright, Forumers. He just got back to me!

He sent me this pcture of an Elum model. Let me know if you want me to crop out all the other pictures, I just thought you might want to see some of their other work. He told me that they used to chop up all their pictures and make collages out of them to save room.

Enjoy!
