Facebook Suggestion sketches (caution: many somewhat large images)

Hello all! Here's the deal:

I made a status on Facebook, asking people to give me things to draw (in boredom). The response was unexectedly large, so I decided I'd go through them one after the next. Currently I am just shy of half way through the entries (and a bit stuck at the moment), but I'll just copy and past it all here, with suggestions, for all to see. I'll take out names, though.

Suggestion: Cranes
Notes: I hate you, Jamal.

Suggestion: Pop Eye
Notes: Popeye is a prick to draw.

Suggestion: Aurora Borealis
Sketcher's notes: Never done anything like this before, so I'm sorry it is poo.

Suggestion: Fantasy Art
Sketcher's notes: Although I'll admit I wasn't all that fond of the suggestion, I'm quite happy with the direction I took.

Suggestion: ME
Sketcher's notes: I did it this way because I feel I need to practice caricature. As it stands... I think I have a lot of practicing to do. I'm so sorry, Kaitlyn.

Suggestion: A tuxedo wearing fish in a gingerbread city stomping on marshmallow men with 1950's stalk legs.
Sketcher's notes: I was really looking forward to this suggestion. The fish was difficult and I'm still not quite sure what 1950s stork legs are, so I just made something up that is very similar to a Strider's legs from HL2. Enjoy.

Suggestion: Spiders
Sketcher's notes: Used those good ol' synectic triggers for this baby. That's supposed to be Van Halen playing 'Jump', by the way... and that's a jumping spider. Right? Also, I'd like to point out that Van Halen is -heavily- referenced.

Suggestion: Dinosaurs in the style of the Dinotopia books
Sketcher's notes: Sorry about munt-arm and gorilla-face. I'm not all that good at drawing people (yet). Again, most of this was heavily referenced because I'm also not good at dinosaurs. Damn... what am I good at?

Suggestion: Shaddup, replaced with Sir Ian McKellen's face, on a volcano.
Sketcher's notes: Sorry it doesn't look excitingly like Sir Ian, but I had fun with it regardless.

Suggestion: A giant koala (Godzilla sized), smashing up new york.
Sketcher's notes: Took a while to get right but I think it turned out pretty good! Empire State Building took forever.

Suggestion: pandas and telescopes
Sketcher's notes: For some reason, with the knowledge that this would be a total bitch to draw, I was really looking forward to this one. The foreshortening on the hand isn't the best, but I tried!

Suggestion: A bear riding a squid into the dawn of a steampunk apocalypse.
Sketcher's notes: I was looking forward to this one because squids are fun as hell to draw. I'd say of all I've done, this is the one I'd most like to make in to a wallpaper some day.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I find these look rather awesome. I'm tempted to get a Facebook account just to make a suggestion...

I like the spider and 'Fantasy Art' especially. Squid is good too.

These are really good. The bear on the squid is fantastic.

You can't draw humans for toffee, and my computer gave up on loading some of them, but many were really great; I agree that the bear on the quid is the coolest thing in the universe ever that I have seen in the last minute.

I like the way you mess about with your instructions. And the spider is great, too.

I've been using these suggestions as one big practice session. I essentially didn't know how to draw most of these things properly when I started on them, so it's a really good way for me to learn. Unfortunately you're right, though. Humans still throw me off a lot. In fact, I'm currently stuck on a drawing of a girl (she suggested a drawing of herself... I hate when they do that). But, it's all in the name of practice. As long as I kee at it, I'm sure I'll learn in time.

Appreciate the comments, everyone. When the uni holidays come 'round, I'll try to get some more done.

Awesome pics, man.

Anyone else notice that the Fan Corner has been kind of not-so shitty lately? Some good stuff in here.

what pencils do you use? I don't have any complete sets so shading is my biggest problem XD

I predominately used the lighter, harder pencils for all of these; from HB to 4H. For some reason I find it easier to draw with them, although I should probably teach myself to use the darker shades.

However, I really didn't have much trouble shading a lot of these with the same pencil I used to draw them.
