[Poll] Should Oddworld go completely 3D eventually?

When Oddworld made the jump to 3D in Munch's Oddysee it failed due to attempting to copy the Abe games' gameplay, which did not work due to time constraints and inexperience. However, Stranger's Wrath showed that Oddworld could thrive in 3D with its beautiful atmospheres and gameplay.

Ever since the series was rebooted, they seem to be planning on going with the 2.5/2.7D.

Would you prefer they go 3D or stay as is?

Edit: Dammit; forgot to add a 4th option for "I'm okay with a mix of both/Either one being the norm".

Edit #2: I would like it if they eventually went 3D since I'm not a fan of how the 2.5/9D looks like; and it's a lot more immersive to explore the world like that. Hell, SW is my favorite of the 3D Oddworld games due to how good the world looked (especially compared to Munch's Oddysee). Imagine what Oddworld would look like if they decided to go back to full-3D?

(Although if they do decide to mix it up, I'd be okay with it depending on what was needed for the game).

Oddworld would still be a great game even if it's made in 3D camera, what matters is the execution of it. Munch's Oddysee was a bad example of a 3D game, but like you said Stranger's Wrath nailed it, so there can be hope.
I honestly like how the 2.9d camera looks like, the camera seems to work in a pretty good way and the gameplay too, yet we have to try it so I don't give much hopes to it. If it reveals to be actually good tho I'd nicely stick with this kind of camera and gameplay, but it'd be nice to see Oddworld going back to 3D.

Oddworld should go back to its 3D roots!

Don't care how many D's Oddworld shoves in my face, I'll buy it anyway.

Also none of the poll answers actually let us answer the question.

Offering platformers and 3D games depending on the story and what works best for that individual title would by my preference.

When it comes down to it, the only reason the original series started in 2D is the hardware limitations of the PS1. Just because the formula happened to work very well, doesn't mean every single game should stick to that format at the expense of stagnating everything else that could make the series (and the world itself) amazing.

I've always wanted to see how the original control scheme would work in 3D - as in, a 1-to-1 recreation of Oddysee gameplay in 3D space. I've actually been building this in Dreams on PS4 out of curiosity and while it's nowhere near finished, it's pretty fun so far.

I have Abe sculpted and playable, but Gamespeak isn't ready. The run, jump, chant and roll animations are in (keyframed directly based on the sprites in the AO manual) though I'm having a few difficulties with the logic.

I've also got Meat Grinders, electric fences and mines working properly, along with some scenery like barrels and catwalks. The idea is to make assets as a tileset that can be used to make new puzzles.

I'll no doubt make a thread at some point and post some images/videos once it's further along and better to show Though I have started a number of projects in Dreams and end up constantly jumping between them, and never finishing anything!

I'm working on something similar, but it's more of a remake of Exoddus. Mine is basically Abe's Exoddus enviroments in 2.5D style gameplay. Now that gameplay of Soulstorm have been released, I could transform the levels of Exoddus in a Soulstorm style gameplay but with original mechanics of Exoddus, or I could build it 2.5D like New 'n' Tasty.

I like both styles, but I think I honestly enjoy the 3D style more. I feel like you get to explore more of the world and see little details you wouldn't get to experience otherwise.

Full VR immersion pls. I want to put together some Oculus controllers, start chanting, and then find myself in the nearest Slig, different height and everything.

Haven't thought about that til literally now, but yes. This is the right answer, I feel.
