As opposed to the same 2-3 people jerking over it until they get bored... in front of everyone else.
Thank you.

Thing is... it wasn't a short lived thread the last time around. It was pretty active, and lasted quite a while. A lot of people get tired of the conversation being hijacked by masturbation over cartoons that are nowhere near as deep or interesting as you seem to think they are. When you guys start doing this, you turn this thread into the anime thread, so you might as well just have one.

Or maybe you could grow up a little bit and realize sometimes people watch things you don’t care for? It’s not like this thread moves a mile a minute, there’s space for a few cartoons here.

Anime threads don’t tend to last long. Maybe they don’t disappear instantly but they rarely get to more than a few pages. And usually a chunk of those posts are people making jokes about everyone else.

I don't even mind scrolling past anime posts. The way I see it, short-lived threads are just a simple way of circumventing having this same fucking argument every time someone opens their mouth about anime.

Short lived threads are just unnecessary clutter that are bound to have many reincarnations over a long period of time, all doomed to the same boring fate.

Anime is something you watch. It's something that's not talked about nearly as frequently on the forum as other things. Only an extremely small handful of people would actively engage in a thread and even then, it would only be for a short period of time until everyone watched something else they want to talk about, mention, or ask for recommendations relating to whatever they just watched.

You know, that's the entire point of the I Have Just Seen thread. Not to clutter the damn off-topic section with a bunch of short lived bullshit only a few people would even bother engaging in.

:
No, I'm not just watching for the gore, otherwise I'd just watch Fist of the North Star again. I started watching Higurashi for the psychological horror, but I am a little disappointed that there isn't as big of an emphasis on it as I first thought. Is there any anime with horror similar to Silent Hill or Audition that you recommend? Of all the ones I've watched, the horror is usually a side thing, and so far I've seen nothing that comes close to Silent Hill, in terms of storytelling or horror, and to be honest I don't think I ever will. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
Madoka (Faust the anime), Hell Girl (Shinto Faust the anime), Shiki (Greek Tragedy with vampires the anime), Shigofumi and Welcome to the NHK have the psychological down pat, but are light on the horror. From the New World (Though you need to give it time). Texhnolyze and Boogiepop Phantom (These two have the visual medium equivelent of a high reading age). Another is definitely psychological horror and a lot of people liked it. I didn't, but then again I didn't like Elfen Lied much either.

If you dare to dabble in the world of visual novels, the Higurashi visual novel is much more psychological and in depth to start with, then by the same author there's also Umineko. Corpse Party has been available legally a few years and also has an anime adaptation which isn't bad but is by no means spectacular. Saya no Uta is the elephant in the room here (I can't be held responsible for the content or your reaction to it) and Tsukihime is an old classic for a reason.

Incidentally I'm of the opinion OANST is the only person actually complaining here and the rest are complaining about complaining. I recognize I lack perspective on the issue though, so I'm passing the buck on anime threads up to Nate. I think it's a bad idea though. I must have finished thirty shows in the last three months and I've only talked about a handful for a reason. Respect and moderation is good. Entitlement is bad.

Guys, is it too late to jump on the LOST bandwagon? I watched the first episode today. First LOST thing I've ever seen. Was okay.

Also I'm looking for a really scary film, so far all the horrors I've been watching haven't scared me like they used to. I'm gonna try the Fourth Kind but any other suggestions?

How you've avoided spoilers up until now I'll never know.

It's surprisingly easy to avoid spoilers for it, I guess.

I've yet to see it and know absolutely nothing about it.

I know there’s a plane, an island and a monster of some description in the jungle.

The only horror movies that have really scared me are Blair Witch Project and Sinister.

Sinister has kind of a neat premise (guy finds tapes in his attic that are connected to unsolved murders, Bad Things start happening) but kinda veers into jump scares later on in the movie. I did like it for not leaning heavily on blood and guts though – the tapes have some really unsettling murder scenes but relatively little blood. Might be worth a look-in.

Disclaimer: I don’t really watch many horror movies so my judgement probably isn’t the best.

I watched BWP a few days ago and whilst it was an awesome film I was terribly disappointed it didn't scare me. Everything used to scare me, horror films gave used to keep me up with the lights on but now they just sort of seem a bit dull. I'll have to try Sinister though so thanks for that. (:

Also yeah, I know nothing about Lost except that there's an island and a plane, even the monster was a curve ball.

I'm not spoiling!

I just want you to remember my disparaging post when you finish it. Remember it and feel bad.

What I'm saying is it just might be within the realms of possibility maybe sort of a disappointment. That's my final word on the matter.

I guess if you’re really stuck for some horror you could check out the Marble Hornets series on Youtube. Sort of a found-footage meets mystery-investigation that’s been ongoing for a few years now. It’s almost wrapped up so now would be a good time to catch up, although new ‘episodes’ do take a while to turn up.

It’s fairly hard to sum up, so I’ll just say: stick with it until at least Entry #18 or so. The episodes start off fairly short and disconnected, but as the series rolls on the episodes get longer and a more solid story emerges.

It’s split into 3 ‘seasons’, so I recommend starting with this season one playlist.

Okay fine, I do know the ending is supposed to be underwhelming but hey ho.

I followed Marble Hornets back when Slender Man was just sort of getting going but for me it lost a lot of steam when they started expanding on the operator mythos.

I don’t think they ever really expanded on it that much themselves, but I do remember not being able to go anywhere on the internet without seeing Slender Man for a while. The Marble Hornets guys kinda just ignored that and stuck with their way of doing things though, which I always kinda liked.

Thanks! I'll start checking these out. Sayu no Uta sounds really interesting. From what I've read it seems like exactly the type of thing I'm looking for, sort of Jacob's Ladder/Silent Hill 3-esque, visually, of course. I've become really desensitised to horror in general, the only thing that still gets me is videogames, so I'm hoping this will.
For now I think I'm going to start with Madoka and Another.

There's that stuff with erm, is it 'Maskey' though? and that just made it unbelievable for me. Slenderman on his own was a cool concept, didn't need to be added to a whole lot I don't think. All the spin-off stuff by unaffiliated people did help to kill Slenderman for me though.

I think you’re honestly the first person I’ve seen take issue with Masky. Kinda seems strange to me that you’d find a crazy dude in a mask unbelievable when the primary antagonist is a 7-8 foot faceless monstrosity.

I still remember the first time I watched the video where Masky first appears, and I remember it gave me a really “oh shit what the fuuuck” moment. If I remember rightly, the creators first came up with the character because they felt they needed an antagonist who was more immediately physically threatening, and I think that was a pretty good decision for them at that point.

Season Two stands out to me as “we want to make a better story but we need a lot of setup first”. The amount of actual plot that happens is fairly low, but looking back it defined a LOT of what’s happened in Season Three so far.

The pacing is probably the series’ biggest flaw, especially when you’re following in real time. Waiting for several weeks between every episode got super frustrating, but now that you can watch the entirety of S2 in one sitting it isn’t so bad (and the good moments are really good).

Well I tried to give it another go, started from the beginning to. Just couldn't bring myself to keep going. I'm not trying to sound edgy or something but it just did not stand out to me as scary or unnerving.

The first season did get a lot better as it went along. There's one video right towards the end which is pretty genius camerawork.

And this is coming from someone who was bored to tears by Blair Witch Project.

I wish to remind people that this is the 'I Have Just Seen...' thread. Not the 'Let's choose a thing we like and chat generally about it'. If ongoing discussion is warranted, make a thread (or use the existing Marble Hornets/Anime threads).

Or maybe you could not hijack the thread with three pages of pretentious, weeaboo faggotry. That would be okay too.

:
Incidentally I'm of the opinion OANST is the only person actually complaining here and the rest are complaining about complaining.
Incidentally, reading the thread would help you not to even have to bother with opinions, as the whole having read the thread thing would show you that you're wrong.

In response to WoF's negative feedback of my last post: Remember when we used to get along, and you were less of a whiny twat who took offense to everything, and started using "Oh, it's OANST. I don't have to care," as your stock comeback? Well, let me be clear, you take everything I say way more seriously than I do, even though you like to pretend that you don't. If I get irritated with you, it isn't because you have bad taste, combined with tunnel vision when it comes to the entertainment you take in (which you do). It's because you're such a fucking crybaby about people making jokes about it. You take something light hearted, and turn it into serious business. You never used to do that. So, if you want to give me a warning, give me a warning. I really don't fucking care.
