There! Are! Four! Fingers!
I'm very eagerly in favour of accessibility, so this is definately one to run past the designer. Forcibly. And repeatedly.

Just reminding a fully blind fan has managed to complete one of the original Abe games (Can't remember if it was Oddysee or Exoddus).
Considering how the UXBs make changing sounds in addition to changing their colors, and how most players actually deactivate them based on their sound, they should be reasonable enough for color blinded players.
More on accessibility:
- Make blind Mudokons have visible eye-stitches, so they're more easily identifiable by color blinded.
- Reduce the intensity of a red alarm flashes, especially on levels with UXBs. The intense alarm flashes makes deactivation of these harder for deaf people, or generally in scenarios when the sound is muted or unavailable.
- Red/green lights on levers/doors/wheels/etc should have some sort of glyph (X/V for example) so they're more easily identifiable for color blinded.
