Korrina is my favourite gym leader since Elesa, and she was my favourite since Sabrina and Misty.

I've got the first badge and I assume I'm about to fight the second gym leader. So far I'm really enjoying it, but from what people are saying I really am disappointed about the lack of new Pokemon. It is however remedied by the amount of old Pokemon you can catch, so I'll be able to have a nice varied team out of it.

The amount of content between the first and second gym is fantastic. It's like they took the best lesson possible from the anime and manga.

Also I love how everyone constantly throws curveballs at you in regards to type matchups.

they finally realized the original 150 are the best heyooooo
I think it's more likely that they've realised that they're going to be making a new Pokemon generation every couple of years until the end of time, and might have to be a little more stingy with how many designs they give out at once.

Not that there's any shortage of things to make into Pokemon, but a quality>quantity model is more sustainable.

I think it's more like they have to make 3D pokemon now so they made most of the old pokemon models in 3D with this game and didn't have as much time on new pokemon.

I’ve been playing Y here and there for the past day I definitely like most of the changes they’ve made, but then I’ve missed all but two generations so I’m no expert on that.

As far as less new Pokemon are concerned, it hasn’t bothered me so far – I’ve missed a few generations, so a lot of what I’m seeing is new to me anyway, even if I know they’re from older games. I think it’s nice to recognize some Pokemon from the get-go too, it makes it easier to jump right in.

This concludes the opinions from someone who hasn’t yet fought the first gym leader.

Well it looks like you’re dead on: How Game Freak built the new creatures and 3D models of Pokemon X and Y
:
"My first gut reaction is 'Oh, man, it's finally out,'" he said in an interview published in Famitsu magazine this week. "I say that because, since all the Pokemon are 3D models this time, we had to finalize the designs at a pretty early point in development. Most of the design team's work was completed by the end of 2012."

Sugimori and team had to work fast, and they also had to work under some pretty exacting guidelines given by director Junichi Masuda. "With the game taking place in a Europe-inspired setting," he said, "he told us to avoid coming up with concepts straight out of our own minds, but to fully examine source material and such before putting pen to paper. We did things like visit France in order to get the full atmosphere of the area into the game."
So I’m currently just about to face the Laverre City gym leader (the Fairy-type one). How far are the rest of y’all, assuming you’re still playing? And what are your teams?

Also, anyone interested in exchanging friend codes? Even if you never trade or battle it has an effect on the Friend Safari, so it’s worth it.

I beat the game also and I have a level 90 Espeon. This makes my fifth Espeon since Platinum. I like Espeon.

I was gonna train up an Espeon but after looking at all the Pokemon I wanted to use, I noticed I had a ton of Psychics and a distinct lack of grass-types. So, Leafeon it is, when I eventually get to the spot where you can evolve one.

Finally beat the damn thing. Only one Pokemon in the Elite Four gave me problems and that was the Mega Gardevoir right at the end, hilarious when I posted about it a few days ago.

This has definitely been the best Pokemon game yet. They managed to make a Pokemon game that feels brand new and modern and yet keep the same old, traditional feel. Props for Game Freak.

However, it's not my personal favourite. That belongs to Pokemon Gold/Silver mostly because I have huge amounts of nostalgia for them.

I think the game had an exceedingly strong narrative until the fight with Korrina in the tower, then it sort of lost it a bit. Not that the rest was at all bad, but until right at the end it kind of felt so standard Pokemon game compared to how strong it started.

It's my third favourite after HGSS and BW, but the post-game scenario with Looker and Emma looks to be really fun.

HGSS is definitely my favorite, but I would put XY as a close second – I had trouble getting into BW because it felt like there was much more grinding necessary and because the story and general style didn’t grab me early on. I’ll probably go back and try and finish it once I’m done with XY.

Speaking of, I’m just about to challenge the Elite 4 for the first time. Got a team of lv.70s: Delphox, Pangoro, Kingdra, Raichu, Noctowl and Sneasel.

Wish me luck.

You'll do it no problem. Not one of the Pokemon in the Elite 4 are lvl 70 or above. X/Y are probably the easiest games in the series.

I did, in fact, do it. Only had a couple of faints while fighting the first two matches, due to poor type matchups; and one faint against the Champion for the same reason.

I think now I’m gonna try my hand at breeding, see if I can get a dream team together.

also, Friend Codes? I want to catch a Vulpix, but you can only get them in Friend Safari. My code is 2208-5734-1545, let me know if you add me.
