Well apparently the Oddworld facebook admin stated there may be a charge to download the HD content from the PS3 version, but I heard this on the Steam forums so you can take it with a grain of salt.

Hmm, I thought that Oddysee and Exoddus were also due to receive some achievements?

That was their intention, but they had to cancel that when they realised how difficult it would be to set up a system equivalent to what OWI were using 13 years ago to (re-)compile the games.

You heard right, but a long time ago. More recently, like a month ago, they said that it's too hard to do so they dropped the idea. It's no loss really, I mean you know if you're achieving the right things in the games by the number of mudokon's you have saved. Plus the only thing the achievements can award you for is things that you have to do in game anyway so it's unnecessary.

Munch is seriously buggy :S The only sound that works is voices and then it crashed a minute in.

Thanks for the reply, sad to hear.

I know sod all really about the achievement system, but wouldn't it of been possible to have a small application running with Oddysee/Exoddus that simply checks the memory addresses of the game, then when the correct value is attained (i.e. complete the game with good ending), tah-dah you get an achievement? But as I say, I know nothing of how it all actually works lol

Talking about achievements, they lack of creativity whatsoever!

They are all story related expect for some achievements in Munch where you have to collect an amount of non-regenerated spooceshrubs!

Stranger could fit some nice achievements like "Capture all bossess" or "Buy all upgrades", but no, they are completely pointless, I was expecting more!

Even the achievements tiles have the same problem!

Really, why Oddworld Inhabitants, after creating such a wonderful and imaginary universe, cannot do the same with achievements? Big disappointment!

True. Sad, but true.

:
Because I am now apparently the thread's Twitter feed:
Quote:
@jawltd Fair point. I am kind of shocked at the Control Scheme menu graphics, though - who worked on that?
Quote:
@AmazingManco the problem with it is, it's Flash based, so we had limited restrictions to work within
I don't believe. Even if it's true, then they should have done it some other way. Gee, if the controls are really unchangeable, they could have just inserted a bitmap image instead!

:
Can't see how much RAM it has, but looks like it has sucky on board Intel GFX so I doubt it..

Edit:

"the ATI 3100 has 256 MB of dedicated memory and a 300 Mhz clock max and the GMA x4500M uses all shared mem but has a 380 Mhz"

Maybe I'm wrong then :P
I've got a notebook with this card (x4500) - Source Engine games (like HL2:EP2) runs perfectly on highest res & details, but e.g. Unreal Engine games laggs horribly - dunno how much GPU power does MO/SW port use, I think you can give it a try, though

I can understand lack of model/texture detail options in menu, but as for you said about SW resolution changer... It's just wrong. It sounds just bad. But better than NO SUCH option in Munch.

Thanks Paul for your advice to check my video card-driver. Now Stranger works properly well on Medium. Ultra is just to laggy. =/

But I'm a little bit disapointed about the controls. Who had the idea to change the ammo with the key coursers - If my hand is more nearly to the mouse-wheel?

Well and I've got the same problems like everyone with Munch. Before it starts the Spooce-Forest-Level it comes this failure message:

I could just ignore it and it shows me the flying camera over the spooce Forest Level and then the game crushes. Pretty bad what Oddworld are delivering to us. =/

Paul, one question: If you change res. in Stranger to an irregular one (by text file), does FOV change too? Or just stretched?

I don't know, they released this.
Keep in mind they never encountered these issues in testing - it's not like they were all "WELP GAME CRASHES BUT FUCKIT"

Also, new Oddworld.com post: For those experiencing technical issues with their Oddboxx

:
Remember: we love you guys and we hate to hear that you’re not having the time of your life with our games, because of technical issues we didn’t encounter in testing.

We’ve heard there are some technical issues being encountered, specifically within Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath. We had these games extensively tested and they both came back clean, so this has come as quite the shock to us.

We ARE working on solving these problems THIS VERY SECOND, and hope to have a patch out to nail all these problems in record time. In the meantime, please make sure if you’re experiencing difficulties, to drop your spec details below in the comments. Rest assured we are looking to fix everything we possibly can.
Nothing has been fixed yet, but considering how quickly they've gotten on top of this, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, worth saying again (and maybe putting in the OP): get all of your bug reports for Stranger's Wrath to JAW Ltd.
info@jawltd.com
http://twitter.com/jawltd
http://twitter.com/abemudokon
Make sure to include your PC's specs and details of any issues you are having.

For Munch's Oddysee, still no word on who to report bugs to. For now, maybe let JAW know there are issues, but don't worry about details since it won't be them fixing it. Alternatively, wait until we get some more info.

REMEMBER: Before you report bugs, check all your drivers are up-to-date!

Munch runs fine except for some random crashes. Also the keyboard controls just don't work for me, I wonder if I could get my ps3 controller to work with it (I only have wireless xbox360 controllers so I can't connect them to my computer)

Stranger is another story though, whenever I try to launch it, it tells me that the game is currently unavailable, I tried to verify the integrity of game cache (which went well) and tried to defragment the cache files (which also went without a hassle) but it keeps on telling me that the game is not currently available...

Bought, downloaded and attempted to play Stranger but came up with this exact same problem. Meh. You could try following these tips to try and resolve it like I did, but they didn't work for me. Other games in my Steam work, so it's something to do with Stranger.

I'm hoping it'll work after they've released a patch to fix the bugs (JAW are releasing a patch, right? Right?), I'll be waiting.

What a shame about the achievements. It's fun to get achievements randomly in games like TF2, for something even as simple as running a few meters as Scout, or something as complex as the one I got today, "Repair a sentry that is taking fire while a medic heals you."

Yeah, why they couldn't have figured out how to do something like that with Stranger is... well, ODD. I can think of several scenarios right off the bat that could count as achievements. It's kind of annoying to just win achievements for getting through a part of the main plot.

How about something like, "swim X amount of meters," "plant a fuzzle trap but kill the enemy with different ammo instead," "drown X amount of Chippunks" or "spend 60% or more of a level using melee attacks" and so on? See, that's fun, stuff you weren't even working towards.

I KNOW there's more than one Gloktogi, or that I'm going to bag one of the bounties.

Well I have solved the problem with the Visual C++ Library failure message 'cause I was following the link of DarkHoodness and download the actual Microsoft Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package but now if I talk to the first Mudokon and want him to open the first gate, the game crushes again without specific details about it. =(

In fact, what a shame about the whole goddamn release. What were they thinking? I just visited the Steam forums for this game and practically nobody is happy about the state that this game is in.

Shouldn't we only get assertions if we are playing the "debug" build, rather the "release" one?

I hate to complain about Oddworld already, but I am afraid I must. Stranger's Wrath runs rather slow for me, and I have the same first-person bug. Water has a strange graphical glitch allowing the water's shimmer effect to be seen through all kinds of terrain. There seems to be a slight blur whenever going through in-game cutscenes.

All of this, except the first-person bug is fully excusable to me, and I have not at all checked if my graphics drivers are updated. Just being able to play the game on a PC and hear the new audio is like playing a totally different game. And of course, since Abe's Exoddus works on my laptop now, I feel the OddBoxx was worth it.

I have yet to play Munch's Oddysee however.

Edit: Ok, it turns out my graphics drivers are incredibely out-dated. Perhaps updating them will solve the problems.

I can't seem to play Munch's Oddysee. The game loads properly, but my 360 controller doesn't seem to be working properly. I can't walk. All the other actions work fine.
It can't be the controller as it works perfectly on Strangers Wrath. Could this be just an error with the game?

MO plays absolutely fine for me, no audio bugs or crashes. Only problems are

a) Can't run-jump while holding two direction keys

b) Snoozer's gun is only moveable when holding down the shift key, not the control key. It's like playing finger twister.

I can't run Stranger because my graphics card is too outdated to run the min-spec drivers. I can hear the opening vids and navigate the main menu, but it's just a black screen.

It would seem that after updating my graphics card drivers, SW still has quite a few glitches. There is a sound glitch occuring when you cash in a bounty, where that little build-up sound effect plays while the game adds up your money. That sound effect continues to play even after the game has stopped counting up your money.

Those listed in my previous post still occur.

I have yet to try MO, but from what I hear in this thread it does not sound pretty... Still, AO and AE work.

Incidentally, has anyone been able to confirm whether or not the individual games of the Oddboxx are giftable or not?

With respect to the acheivements; JAW were probably limited to what the game already kept track of internally. Adding things like a counter for the number of steps or items found would likely be very difficult.

I am surprised they didn't have one for reaching 20,000 Moolah though.

I got a message explicitly stating that they weren't when I bought the Oddboxx.

Lorne did say (yesterday, last minute thing) that they were looking in to it, so maybe this is something that can be changed retroactively.
