Pretty much yeah. I was thinking you would spawn in nowhere near where you live and just kill it like you do with the Enderdragon

All that effort to beat it though. It's clearly tougher then the Enderdragon and all you get is a little item that makes you able to craft a beacon block. And the beacon blocks aren't even good!

Beacons are an easy way to gain passives without lots of tedious potion brewing.

What happens if you can't kill the wither? Do you just have one roaming around your world forever?

I imagine that would be terrifying trying to gather resources while one of those was on the loose.

Stripmined a 6x17 (I didn't count the dimensions beforehand) chasm beneath my house. Took forever. Eventually hit lava. Flooded chasm with water, but lacked diamond pick to get through obsidian. Total diamond yield: 1. Built minecart track to the bottom. Wheeeee. Exhausted iron supplies, but filled four chests with cobblestone. Built enormous floating dirt island in the middle of a lake. Built majestic stone castle on top, didn't like the turrets, tore it down and built another one. Quite attractive to look at, eight functional rooms plus four tower lookouts and a glass-bottomed rooftop garden with obligatory birch tree. Took screenshots, may post. Now tired of gloomy singleplayer prospects. May join OWF server.

It might have been a weird sort of world since I used my name as a seed. Not bad for a weekend, though.

I have a feeling the Wither might be nerfed by the time it comes out. It really is overly-powered at the moment.

The idea is that you challenge it in an arena you specially design to take it down, I guess. Even with the home ground advantage and as much enchanted diamond armor as you like he's still supposed to be really, really tough.

e: Actually, this guy makes it look really easy. All you need are regen and health potions, even on hard.

The thing is, I haven't even built anything with redstone, or even properly furnished my castle, but I'm bored of the game. It's possibly the most popular indie game ever made, and I'm not really that bothered.

I think it might be like Spore or something, where you really need to have an idea before you start. I know what I want my OWF house to look like, though. I'm making a crashed Borg cube.

The thing with Minecraft is that it's boring as fuck when you play it on your own. You can't show off your stuff to anyone and it feels like you are alone in that massive endless world, which isn't very fun. Playing multiplayer, even if no-one is online, you feel part of a community since you come across other people's creations and such.

you'll find something you need redstone for eventually. When you do you'll find yourself diving into a creative world and tearing your hair out.

I dunno. When I first started 90% of it was singleplayer and I had a lot of fun. Having said that, my best buddy plays this game and we have our own private server. It's fun to play pranks on each other and build cool things and have mini contests etc. For a better Singleplayer experience, games like Skyrim and Fallout would probably suit this kind of player better.

With Minecraft and Terraria, a lot of the fun is digging down as deep as you can go and seeing what random cave systems you can find. But eventually they get boring.

for some... reason.

The intense red of the rose is beyond the graphic rendering capabilities of such small devices.

There apparently is a serious technical reason for the colour change, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if hardware problems were the reason. I wouldn't be surprised if Mojang's coding were the reason.
