derp where
Any post in this thread of mine that wasn't replied to by Sekto. I brought up things I liked and other stuff on a broader spectrum that I figured might garner recommendations or whatever, but I guess this is how it goes now. I'm going to go watch Tim and Eric and feel good about myself I guess.

You indirectly asked for a recommendation on seeing Summer Wars, I indirectly recommended The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

We're indirect with eachother.

I wanted a recommendation from someone with a comparable taste to mine, or at the very least some sort of a substantial point to why I should watch it. You indirectly recommended it for no other reason than I think it's his best therefore it is, and proceeded to repost more of that good ol' Neon Barbie Sailor Moon Powerpuff Magic stuff. It's not the Anime and Manga thread. It's the Agree with Joe or get Impotently Talked Down to thread.

Could someone with taste in Anime beyond that of an adolescent girl indirectly give me a suggestion for something to watch so I can stop thinking about this putrid thread? Or maybe could Joe go indirectly fuck himself? Thanks.

Well that was needlessly immature of you.

So what? Are you saying 'You like X work by Y director, you might like his Z work' is actually a bad recommendation to make? Or are you using the time honoured 'Joe is very vocal about having eccentric tastes therefore his tastes are auto-shit' argument?

I was actually being not arrogant or presumptuous by suggesting something to you (Except in direct response to something else I know we both liked) so yeah. Being by the same director should be a good enough reason to go give it a look see, and if not, do you really think you'd watch Summer Wars based on a synopsis by me? I'm terrible at giving synopses, I feel embaressed because something I know to be amazing feels cheap and awkward when I try to blurb it. I hate synposes.

Also, just so you know, I have very very wide tastes

I'm saying we don't like the same things as a whole and I had no reason to take your lazy suggestion seriously because of that. I'm not saying you have shit taste, I'm saying you have differing taste from mine and a suggestion of "It's good 'cause it's the same guy and I like it!" don't cut the mustard.

So when I call out the ring of Animericans for just talking to themselves and suckin' each other's big shitty cock swords, and I get a reply like derp where I'm entitled to tell you off for being an irritating little exclusive shit. Think about it. We wouldn't be in this discussion if I'd been thrown a bone and had a reply like "Yeah, Golden boy was alright"/"No I have never seen it why don't you go start a 90's anime thread, turddurgler." Laaaaaaaazy.

Again, this thread just reads more and more like a sekret klub.

Not actually robots.

It's about a middle-aged sponsored superhero who's a single dad. Basically, his popularity is fading as compared to the other younger heroes, so he gets paired up with a new rookie who's way more popular than he is as a crime-fighting duo.

It's basically about them getting along and learning to work together.

That sounds extremely interesting and literally right up my alley. I like the design, also. Reminds me of that one segment of Gotham Knight that I can't nor want to name.

Right

Okay

For a start, as Strike Witch mentioned, Tiger and Bunny is ridiculously cool and well worth your time watching it. I know it's your thing, but I didn't make the connection due to being a huge derp. I guarentee you'll thoroughly enjoy it.

Another one that slipped my mind is Heroman which is a series written by Stan fucking Lee in which an American loser kid finds a robot he uses to battle aliens. It's very overdosed with Marvel/DC style shenanigans and is pretty much Stan Lee's love letter to super robot shows of the 70's.

Two other shows by the same studio that might catch your interest are Star Driver and Eureka Seven. I'm sure Chris could enthuse you about how great Eureka Seven is more than I ever could, and Star Driver is a big electric fast paced meld of fabolousness and robots. Imagine TTGL if the manliness was replaced with camp.

Two shows I've recently watched that I think you might enjoy are Steins;Gate. which is about a self proclaimed MAD SCIENTIST college student who accidently configures his microwave into a time machine that can send text messages back into the past. It's very light hearted for the first half, then he suddenly realizes that shady organizations are after him to get the time machine and he may have time leaped his way into an unwinnable situation. Then there's Shiki which is a horror series about a family of vampires moving into an isolated Japanese village and fucking shit up. It's the anti-Twilight; gritty, visceral and the vampires represent everything vampire should be (Intelligent, monstrous, terrifying).

All these shows are 26 episodes/two seasons long, with the exception of Eureka Seven which ran for a whole year.

Lastly, I heartfeltly recommend The Girl Who Leapt Through Time which is a wonderful slice of life/low fantasy movie by the same director of Summer Wars and in my opinion his better movie. It's about a teenage girl who finds a funny little egg thing in the science room one day and then discovers she has the ability to travel backwards in time by literally jumping around. Everything has a price however, and she discovers that being outside the constrains of time leads her into some very awkward situations with her friends, and later on the movie turns more serious with a plot twist you'd never see coming. It's all about the joys of youth and friendship. Essentially the Japanese type cultural themes that aren't explored in Summer Wars.

And there's my recommendation list for you. No I haven't seen Golden Boy, but a quick look on wikipedia shows it's the kind of thing I think I might like and at six episodes it's not a huge time commitment. I'll put it on my list for sometime and watch it in a night.

EDIT: Also all these series have been licensed in the west and should be available to legally stream. Emphasis on should.

I just finished watching a great Satoshi kon film, Tokyo Godfathers. Films like this are why I love anime. So vibrant and stylish, yet is a serious drama about three vagrants who come together to deliver a lost baby to it's mother. It is also downright hilarious. One of the highest recommendations I can make, alongside other Kon films, such as Millenium Actress and Perfect Blue.

i just finished the series Planetes. It was great. everyone who hasn't seen it yet, try, you won't be dissapointed.
most realistic science fiction series I've ever seen and it tackles important topics, like poverty, disease, dreams and psychological problems.

bombastic. high and fluid animation, especially the weightless scenes. and the music is great.

The image and the music combined makes me think of an anime variation on 2001 a space odyssey, which I suppose is rather accurate given the show.

Picked up a heap of new shows this season: Senki Zesshou Symphogear, Miniskirt Space Pirates, Nisemonogatari, Amagami SS+, Another, Kill Me Baby and Rinne no Lagrange

My favourite by far, though, is Aquarion EVOL which is just about the most fabulously sexually suggestive mecha show ever and doesn't take itself at all seriously.

Boy that's an unfortunate point for the embed to show.
