Also id say i was a fan of oddworld before NnT came out. I bought my ps4 solely for new n tasty, not for some random platformer i had never heard of up til that point. I had high, high expectations for New n Tasty when it released, and I was mostly dissapointed, but I still found it far. far more enjoyable than the original. NnT wasnt some hidden gem I never head of. I played Strangers wrath a couple years earlier when the HD version released on PS3 and LOVED it. Following that I bought the ps1 classic off the ps store, played for a few hours, and stopped because I wasnt having fun. The first 30 mins was cool, cuz it reminded me of the demo I used to play as a kid, but after that it was just frustration. I wasnt enjoying my time with the game.

I apologise if it sounds like im saying New n Tasty is objectively better. I cant say that. Its a videogame. Unless the game flat out didnt work, whether its better or not is subjective. I think hands down New n Tasty is better, and Ive had this discussion both here, and elsewhere before and almost everyone disagrees. Thats fine.

Im trying not to contradict myself, I do that alot. I find I have trouble thinking of the right words to describe my thoughts properly, so apologies if that causes an issue.

That's a hard Question, hm.
But to be honest, i prefer NnT too.
Even with the Bugs (good ones & bad ones), it felt more nostalgic to me. I don't care about Graphics, i need a great Gameplay. And both of them got it. But to be real, as AO came out i was a Kid. I fanfared the Game cause of the tricky Playgrounds & the dark Background + Story. Let's be real, we all wanted to be Abe and save our Pals. Even it was funny killing them....sometimes....the annoying ones........holy shit, was am i a Bad Boy for laughing when they exploded to tasty Meat? :<

And as i played NnT it didn't only gaves me nostalgic feels, it felt so New! It was like: "Woah, am i old now? Wasn't it way easier at AO?! Nah, just need to train my skills again." NnT got something fresh to me. That's all. But i wouldn't say AO is shit from the past. It was for the Time it was created, epic. But now, NnT made a perfect stick in into the new Game times.

Definitely AO. I mean I don't have any major issues with NnT personally, while there are certain things about it that I didn't like, I still enjoyed it and was glad that it was something that was made/released. But it's hard to top the original for me. Some of that might be the nostalgia talking, but just the atmosphere alone for AO makes me like it a lot more.

Abe's Oddysee is infinitely better than NnT.
NnT improved a couple of much needed things, but overall AO has the better atmosphere. Maybe if the Sligs shut up NnT would win it over for me.

Couldn't agree more! xD My preference is definitely AO but nostalgia probably has a huge part to play in that!

Man whats your problem?? AO was brilliant. It's what got OWI off their feet. AO brings back so many great memories for probably most of us here. In fact I just did a full play through yesterday!

I agree, it's just a shame that the steam release is kind of broken which is really upsetting cause I really wanted to reply it after finishing NnT.

Cheers, I already have this but there's also an issue with getting controllers to work too, most of the commands work but when it comes to speaking and sneaking people can't seem to use the triggers.

I just can't, I've tried and tried but I don't think I'll ever get used to it, especially with the OW games as I've always used a controller to play them.

There are some keyboard to controller mapping apps that you can try, like Xpadder or Pinnacle Game Profiler. I've used Pinnacle before to create a controller layout that matches the PS1 version to a 360 controller.

I have exactly the same issue. Can't seem to get the Xbox one controller triggers to work with New 'n' Tasty.

I've updated all the drivers and even the software inside the controller itself.

You had trouble with NnT? I had no problems what so ever with using a controller for that which I was pleasantly surprised about, does that mean you've not played it then? I hope you find a solution.

I like New 'n' Tasty for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it's the easiest to play. I have played and finished that game, all by myself, whereas normally I ALWAYS need Kevin's assistance. The few exceptions to this rule include some Disney games and Lego games, and a sole adult game, Call of Duty: World at War. As you can see though, I'm not a very hardcore gamer.

I also love the graphics, and I think it's a very beautiful game. The backgrounds are very expansive and—although it looks to have been improved further in Soulstorm—I think the detail on the characters and animals are beautiful. I also love the extended sequence where you ride Elum and have to gallop over jumps and obstacles without stopping.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and cast my vote for Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. I enjoyed New n Tasty and it's a good game game standalone of it's previous incarnation, hell I was even the guy who trawled through the game multiple times looking for the "two secret characters", however when compared to Abe's Oddysee it just fell kinda flat for me (Despite it being 3D).

When playing on the hardest difficulty and attempting a 100% saviour status - which I'm sure I wasn't the only person to do on their first playthrough - I found many issues with the gameplay. Both AO and NnT are action/puzzle games, but Abe's Oddysee had puzzles based around it's grid system, whereas New n Tasty just had puzzles based around Abe's Oddysee sans grid.

The grid system works for the puzzles we're presented with in the same way it works for a puzzle game like Bejeweled, it allows us to plan our actions and easily interpret the moves we make. I'm sure others here when playing AO/AE think in the sense of "Right, if I run for 3 squares, jump, then quickly tuck into a roll I can get past that meat saw." However this kind of forethought and planning was made incredibly difficult with the exclusion of the grid system, as it was the backbone from which all the game's challenges were made easily understandable.

When I die on the originals I know that it's my fault, I mistimed a jump, or I should've waited a second longer before running from that Scrab. But with New n Tasty none of my deaths seemed like they were as much my fault as they were failing mechanics. The meat saws on the hardest difficulty were far too fast to the point where you'd have to spam quiksave and quikload just to find the 10 millisecond long span of time where you'd manage to succesfully roll through. And that shouldn't be the case in a puzzle game, it slows the flow and reduces a player's desire to continue out of sheer frustration.

My deaths in AO/AE felt fair, my deaths in NnT did not.

Extra Credits did a great episode on this concept that I recommend watching.

This is why I'm excited for Soulstorm being loosely based off of Abe's Exoddus, it opens up what they're able to do mechanically without restraining any new or absent mechanics to the confines of its orginal version. OWI seem to have taken NnT as a learning experience and that makes me very excited for what they do next.

New N Tasty is on sale on the PS Store for 5 bucks for PS3, and I was wondering if it's worth it. Most of the posts in this thread have made me think it's not.

I have all the other Oddworld games, but I just don't know about New N Tasty. Especially the PS3 version, which doesn't even have Alf's Escape DLC. I would be mostly buying it out of support for OWI.

It is definitely worth it. Everyone here (except maybe Varrok) can admit in some fashion, that they did enjoy it while playing, although they do prefer the original. If you haven't played it, it is only $5.00, and you're not going to miss it, and the game's value is definitely worth more than its sale price.

If you have a PS4, I would recommend it there first. The graphics are far more beautiful and detailed, the backgrounds look endless, and although I can't confirm this, If you buy the PS4 version, you get the PS3 version for free(?) I can't confirm this, I think it's cross buy. I have it on both systems because of the free additional download on the PS3. The PS4 also, obviously, has Alf's Escape.

I bought the game twice at full price, it's definitely worth $5 (and more). People are being harsh on it because everybody loves the originals a lot.

I ended up getting it, the PS3 version (I don't have a PS4 or a Vita).

Now, once I beat it, I can finally participate in this poll lol. I already feel inclined to say the original is better based purely on controls, but New N Tasty has so much charm oozing from it that I want to beat it and give it a full chance.
