I'm sorry for all the job losses there'll be (and it's sad to see everywhere closing down, but all I can do is verbally condemn the banks, Government, etc), but HMV is an overpriced waste of time which stocks shit and shit only. If you ever go to look for something which isn't on the epidermis of popular culture, if they have it at all, they have one copy of the worst of the artist's work going somewhere between £20-40.

And I don't believe that it's digital downloads and what have you which have put it at risk. They cater generally to casual consumers of media, who are probably more likely to download music and film (be it illegally of legitimately), and then stock a couple of shitty jazz and classical CDs as a tokenistic gesture towards those who take a more active interest in music. I think they need to reassess how they market themselves.

Not true. I don't know about in the UK, but I have found some of my favourite CD's and movies at my local HMV. Hell, I did the majority of my Christmas shopping there. They often have great 2/25 or 2/20 deals on CD's which I just eat the fuck up. And seasons of Seinfeld go for ten dollars!

Then again, they charged me $40 for a ratty-ass Star Wars t-shirt that had a mildy clever phrase regarding an AT-AT and sexuality on it, so I suppose I'm a bit on the fence.

The thing is that even when they have a deal on CDs, I can get the same CD for around the same price at a smaller shop (although quite a few of those have closed down now), plus there's a greater variety. I've bought good things from HMV before, but their stock just seems to get worse and worse, and the music section smaller and smaller.

It sounds like a combination of HMV having bad business decisions when it comes to sales, and being out-competed by the internet. They did have an online store though, so perhaps that isn't really an excuse.

Criken2 and Hitman (which I can't embed)

I'm half with you both on this one, HMV Canadaside seems to carry a fairly broad selection of music and while they push a lot of ubiquitous shite on people through ads and such they still carry some music that's hard to find online or in local music stores. Unfortunately the music layer usually covers about a quarter of the store, the rest being tonnes of tent-sized nerd chic t shirts and sweat pants, overpriced crappy headphones and a million shitty DVD's or that weird vynil shit that was neat before fucking EVERYTHING had a vynil figurine.

And fuck the Big Bang Theory, seriously. I tried to like it, I gave it a shot, but it's just a turd circus of television.

If he does testify about other people in order to shorten his sentence, he'll still be in his late 40s or early 50s by the time he can compete again. And by that age, the only way he can do well is by taking drugs.
