now you've just brought up something i hear on these adverts that really gets my goat. its not the same thing you're on about, but similar.
Anchor butter, the twats, say "Only our cows are free to roam all year round". now, this must mean that their cattle are 'free range' and are not being 'battery farmed', or that farmers follow a herd of roaming cattle around the UK like Indians.
there is no such thing as a 'battery farmed cow', its like trying to battery farm whales. they need to be farmed in the manner of being sheltered under barns during storms and winters, hand fed, and being let out to pasture. they get vital vitamins from grass, mixed silage, molasses, cake, pellets and eating their own and other cattle's placentas once they have given birth.
if you locked cattle in a barn for their whole life they would become very territorial and, to be honest, lose their marbles, as they are very sociable animals, making them very violent. no farmer will put up with such things as it all boils down to money, so this would not happen. and it goes without saying that the milk would taste shit. probably the meat too. and disease would be rife. and the cattle would slowly kill each other off via bullying.
in short; its bullshit. cattle have always been 'free range', its economically retarded to do it any other way. so Anchor are misleading people, possibly making others think "Hey, if these are free range, that means all the other cows in England are battery farmed/caged/locked in a barn forever! We must start some stupid fucking petition and dirty the English farming society some more!" then more crap kicks off.
i'm just waiting for a milk bottle to read 'Milk From Caged Cows'.
end of lengthy rant.
