Again, nope.
Toy Story: First ever CGI movie, with a lot worse graphics than any since; released in 1995
Abe's Oddysee: released in 1997

There is a MASSIVE difference in graphics quality between these two, whether you can see or not.
OWI have never had movie-quality graphics. They're absoluetly great, really stunning, yes, but not movie quality. But then, they're games. They don't NEED movie quality graphics, and they would have been wasting their time and money if they pushed it the extra 100 miles to hit that quality.
i didn't even read this shit too long, summon it up please.

Ok, ok, Mr. Movie presun, I'll leave it at they were damn good graphics, they was. However, Strangers cutscenes were extra-good, almost on their way to being movie standard.
Almost.

I'm no expert but I'd say that their FMV graphics have been close to movie quality all along. Sure, there have been a few glitches that a little more time and money would have fixed but pobody's nerfect. In any case, reviews of Oddworld games often claim that the FMVs are movie quality.

Enough with all these references to "movie-quality graphics".

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is movie-quality, yet so is The Incredibles. A lot of what OWI has produced looks better than what audiences saw in The Incredibles, but could not even be compared to the anything in the Final Fantasy film.

Did the visuals in Final Fantasy save it from being a crappy movie, no. Did The Incredibles' far less impressive visuals make it fail at the box-office or in the critics' minds, no.

There is a minimum level of quality that is expected from audiences, but with a little extra polish, Oddworld already meets those expectations. That being said, I'm sure OWI will make a movie that is more graphically advanced then their previous efforts, it's just common sense.

Bottom line: People need to quit getting so worked up before we have anything solid.

Icarus... sorry but that attitude is worth a WARNING!
I don't think anyone will disagree.

anyway as for the mood of the movies, Lorne said some time ago that if they made some the mood would be more like AO then MO...
Thus exactly what most of us want

You are sure making friends fast here Icarus. Keep up the good work.

What worries me about an Oddworld movie isn't whether or not it will be good. I know it will. I'm afraid that it is going to fail if they stick to their guns and make more adult than the common fair. Look at MirrorMask. A beautiful c.g. film written by Neil Gaiman with the art of Dave McKean. The film was made by Jim Henson studios and yet they can not get it in theatres. It is playing in about ten small theatres in the U.S. but the chances of it getting wide release are very poor. I'm just afraid that the same thing is going to happen to Oddworld. My biggest fear is that the movie will fail and Lorne will decide to shut down completely.

You're missing the point here. Mirrormask didn't fail because it was challenging. It failed because the script was crap and it was savaged by the reviewers.

Nothing OWI has produced looks comparable to anything in either The Incredibles, or Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.

For reference, people: What I have been saying is fact. The pre rendered cinematics OWI has produced are brilliant, but they have not been movie quality.

Oh, and The Incredibles does have graphics to match Final Fantasy - it definitely does. However, The Incredibles is a cartoon while Final Fantasy is going for the photo-realistic look. These looks do not dictate graphic quality.

:

I'm not saying they need movie-quality graphics to do fantastically well, I'm saying that haven't got movie-quality graphics in their current games.
They WILL have the right level of graphics, though, because they will be making for a movie, and not a game, and they will not be made by OWI, but outsourced.

Sure, take two of the best CGI movies to compare with.

Oddworld things aren't that movie quality, but they sure as hell beat the steaming shit pile CG movies that have come out recently: Madagascar, Valiant and all those other krappenfests.

Yeah, I'll definitely agree with that.......Madagascar just looks like crap! Even the other things that's in it, such as the supposed "humor", seems to fall flat in that one because it's honestly not funny. :-/ And yeah, Valiant doesn't look so great, either, honestly. Oddworld is DEFINITELY better than those graphics-wise and even with all of the other content, such as characters and humor.

I say they most definatley compete. OWI could easily get away with a movie of that quality methinks.

I never saw the new CG movies so I can't really say anything about them. Athough I can bet from first glance OWI CG movies beat them by a VERY long shot.

The Incredibles is not all that impressive graphically. Sure, it has that extra polish and higher resolution to hold up on a big screen, but that doesn't change the fact that the characters and most of the environments are very geometric.

Looks like I arrived at this topic late.

This is really great news. I can't wait to see what OWI has in store.
Hopefully the movie will be wide-release so Oddworld would get good exposure.

And OWI is pretty smart for keeping Raymond Swanland around. In my opinion, he's one of the best artists out there.

I hope Lorne gives the Abe story a darker edge...
...it was dark before, but too many people didn't get the seriousness of the story due to Abe's flatulence.

that is what i wanna see in a movie darkness, besides abe had to see his friends get tortured, how bright of a movie can it really be.

Hope it ain't rated PG, i'm too old for that, even though i went to see finding nemo in theaters, oh well

Shut up, shut up! Dont even go that far. Try not to think like that.

As for Oddworld having movie graphics, I would say they do.
Way better graphics then The Incredibles, by far.
Final Fantasy graphics, ehh, not quite there yet.
But I think Oddworld have movie graphics already. The Stranger's Wrath and Munch's Oddysee graphics were amazing. Hell, all four of the games' graphics were.

Will someone get this kid a pair of pom-poms, so he can actually be a cheerleader? Crap almighty.

The FMVs are nowhere near movie quality, especially not Abe's games. Lorne will most likely join forces with a professional CGI company, maybe hook up with his old buddies at ILM (all the better, actually, since they've produced some pretty near-lifelike graphics).

Cullen, stop treating Oddworld like a religion. I'm beginning to agree with Icarus, you start screaming and covering your ears at the very hint of someone saying something negative about Oddworld. Sure, we all like the games, that's why we're here. But the series does have a lot of faults (*coughbadvoiceactingcaugh*), just like every game on the market, and some of us would like to think that we can bring these up without someone like you telling us to stop. Freedom of speech and a right to an opinion, buddski.
