It is an absolutly stupid idea to make this film. They got where they are today with ODDWORLD not citizen siege so why risk the change in direction when they can make games which they know will be a success, as far as im concerned they are taking a stab in the dark, and they will probably regret it.

oh yeah.. fogot to add this but if you go to this site http://www.game.co.uk/ComingSoon.aspx?cat=11271 and go to the second page it says you can pre order cs for xbox 360.

They need to do a more mainstream story in order to gain the credibilty they need to get support for the production of their Oddysee franchise. This is what they need to do in order to prove that CGI can be used to produce mature films that can be successful. Besides, this is a story of Lorne's, so even though it lacks Oddworlds characters, it will have the same finesse and substance that made the Oddworld stories so compelling.

I say again: this was exactly the same kind of attitude that some fans (including myself) had about Stranger's Wrath when it was announced. This time, I for one will give them the benefit of the doubt, and pledge all my support (not that it'll make much difference).

And I soon came around (especially having seen the "The good, the Bad and the Odd" trailer, which just oozed Oddworld.

Citizen Siege oozes Oddworld Inhabitants.

I disagree.
I barely remember any ill feeling toward Stranger's Wrath, and any that was there was almost entirely to do with the unimaginative design of the Clakkerz (or, initially, how imaginative the design of the Steef was made to sound in certain articles) when we were used to cool alien designs from the previous games.

This film doesn't interest me in the slightest, and it's got nothing to do with new oddworld inhabitants which don't look as cool as old ones.

Successful distopian plot-lines in the past 5 years: Half-Life 2, V for Vendetta. That's about it. XP

Those were just extremely minor things used for comic relief. In fact, I don't think I've even heard of those last two, and I've owned all of the OW games. On the other hand, this "Americo" is obviously going to be a pivotal element in the film, making the ultra mega lameness of the name much more relevant.

Really now. Even "Rupture Farms" is more subtle than "Americo." A lot more subtle.

I can't believe you guys are already rejecting the idea, nothing has been shown and there barely anything said about the content. You take the little info you have, make your own vision with it and say it sucks, wait to see what the folks at OWI do with it.

In this future, the companies wanted change the name of the country into a name that favored their name. Now Lorne did this to not let the auidance lose regonization that was the future of America.

Thanks for identifying the etymology for us, but it’s really not that different from Paramite or Scrab or Meetle, and it’s more inventive than Greeter, Snoozer, Intern or Outlaw.

Even assuming the word so much as features in the film, it’s going to be a word that’s been coined by a human within the CS universe (and markedly so, since it takes place in the near future), in which case it could be a ‘rebel’ similarly driving the point home, or a ‘corporatist’ rebranding that the ‘rebels’ are as unimpressed with as you are.

Don't get me wrong. Like Max said, I'm just criticizing the word; I'm still looking forward to the movie.

Paramites and Scrabs (and to a certain extent, Greeters and Snoozers, etc) are still far more inventive than "Americo." While their names may just be a coupling of words, or just words in general, the creature/objectives themselves are completely unique. Even the Outlaws weren't just a group living on the edge of society; they were an entire race unto themselves.

But when you're going to represent something as cliché as an oppressive totalitarian government, you've got to do better than "Americo." Hell, I couldn't take anything that sounded remotely like "America" seriously. Not because I'm patriotic (which I'm not), but because it's just so obvious and boring.

Also, from what I've heard from you guys, it sounds like they're going for something that may be a bit more gritty and "serious" than OW. In that case, "Americo" definitely isn't the way to go. No one would ever believe that there would be a country called "Americo" in the future.

I certainly hope they change it.

We were all apprehensive when we heard about it, but after we did give it some thought we came around.

Besides, how do you know that they didn't first go to people with their Oddworld idea, only to have it rejected with a "try something more mainstream first". Then they would suggest Citizen Siege and get the thumbs up while Oddworld is put on the back burner.

Actually your blindly shouting that is sucks with out even seeing one damn thing. I understand that so far you don't like what you've heard but thats only amounted up to a paragraph, and we still have several years to go..things do change. I don't like alot of Lornes decisions over the past few years but I still think he knows how to pull this off and Im keeping hope for the sake of OWI. Its ok to have an opinion, but its just stupid to go apeshit on something we've only read about.

I'll agree that the card for the storyline their using has been played a lot over time, but even OWI knows that there's risk in using a plotline like this. If they're going to take such a risk then they'll back it up by strengthening other areas in the film. At least I hope they will.

And yes, Americo is a terrible name for me. It sounds like something you'd see on an anti-America bumpersticker. I believe if a film is going to make a big kick at politics then they should do it subtley. Maybe not so subtle that you have to pick apaprt the entire film, but not so blatant as Americo. Same with the flag.

Nah, it ain't subiminal. Subiminal is only if it can be played forwards and the sub-conscious can understand it.

This is sort of interesting. Never thought that OWI could do that. Then again, backwards playing can create weird things to happen. But I doubt it has anything to do with CS, since this was on their mind before they had a good idea about CS.
