:
So this morning I woke up and turned my laptop on, and everything was fine. I came home from a day out with mates and my laptop wouldn't boot up, everytime I got the, "operating system not found message." Not the first time my laptop has had this problem, but until it gets fixed progress on the game is unfortunately halted. Sorry, all.

There's a possibility that the MBR screwed up your active partition (the one you boot from).
If you can, try and download a copy Windows 98, I used 98 when this happened to me.
It may be illegal however it's only considered so if the copy is kept for 24 hours, you don't need to install anything either.
If you burn it to a disc with a program like CDBurnerXP and insert it into your computer and boot with it, you will have a menu.
Should say something like Boot from Hard Drive or Boot from CD-ROM. Obviously select Boot from CD-ROM and then select Boot computer with/without CD-ROM support. Once you're at an MS-DOS prompt, you can type in FDISK and hit enter. Then enter again when you get the large disk message.
Press 2 and hit enter to go to the Set Active Partition menu. From here you'll see all the partitions on your computer, find the one that best matches your computer's C drive size, type in the number it corresponds with on the list. It might ask you for the label, if it has none just hit enter, otherwise type it in and press enter.
Now reset your computer without the cd inside and it *should* boot, otherwise, try using an OEM cd to run the repair function.
