Pinky, you're only a Vegetarian if you don't eat meat. It has nothing to do with whether or not you eat vegetables. If you eat both meat and vegetables, then you eat meat, and so are not a vegetarian. I find it hard to believe that you are as clever as you say you are, if you don't understand something as simple as this...

actually no animal can survive off pure meat. bears are actually closer to vegitarian than anything and eat about 80% veggies (unless your talking about polar bears those things eat 95% meat). I don't know specifics on any other animals.

This information is more than a little inaccurate. Cannabis has been proven to be considerably better for you than Tobacco. Apart from the fact that Cannabis does not contain any Tar, it also does not exacerbate Lung Cancer, as well as helping to prevent Throat and Mouth Cancer. The suggestion that it causes infertility is unfounded, and has yet to be proven. Also, inhaling Cannabis can actually help to counteract the side-effects of Tobacco, and Cannabis users have been shown to have up to 130% of the lung capacity of non-smokers. It is not harmless, by any means, since inhaling any hot smoke into your lungs will undoubtably cause some damage, but this damage is temporary, and it has yet to be proven that Cannabis causes any long-term damage [unless smoked incredibly often IE constantly, in which case it will cause irreprable damage to the lungs simply as a result of being hot].

Nothing the article actually says is provably untrue, but certain facts have been omitted, and others exaggerated.

For example, when he talks about its effects on fertility, he says that it "has been shown to lower sperm counts". This is true, it has been shown to do this, but only occasionally, and the tests have never shown this repeatedly enough for it to be accepted as proven. In most cases, it has had no effect on the test subjects' sperm counts.

Although it cannot be denied that there are some risks in taking cannabis during pregnancy, the same is true of any drug, including alcohol, tobacco, painkillers, and other medicinal drugs. When placed on a scale of risk beside these other drugs, Cannabis is relatively [but not totally] harmless, and it has not yet been proven to cause any damage to unborn children, physically or mentally. For example, my mother has been an irregular smoker for most of her life. I am fine.

"Some cellular-level research suggests that THC may increase the mutagenic activity of the tar in smoke, which could lead to cancer." This is an example of this doctor's selective mentioning of facts. Here he mentions the small minority of cases in which cancer has been exacerbated by cannabis, but does not mention the larger minority [still a minority, though - cannabis generally has no effect on cancer] in which the chances of cancer were actually reduced.

The bit about it impairing cognition and motor functions is the only part of the article that is really 100% true, but then that is the whole reason why most people indulge, and, since cannabis is generally taken at home, there is not much risk of injuring yourself. If you were to smoke a joint then go and operate a forklift truck, or something, you might be injured, but how many of us would seriously do something like that?

it is the other things that the tobacco companies put into the cigarettes along with the tabaco that caues all the problems if I remember correctly. If the tobacco leaf was smoked completely by itself, I don't think it would cause so many illments. There are indian tribes that smoke it in its completely natural state...and from what I heard...they are not suffering from the condintions caused by smoking cigarettes

That is partially true, but not totally true. The Tobacco leaf still contains Tar and Nicotine, and so can still cause cancer and reduce your lung capacity. In fact, all of the specific problems with tobacco that I know of come from the leaf itself, but I am sure that there were more that were caused by additives. I'll have to look that one up.

As an interesting side-note, did anyone else read about that chemical that they discovered a couple of years ago that, when added to tobacco, actually cancelled out most of the bad effects of it? Unfortunately, the tobacco companies refused to add it to the tobacco, because it also made it less addictive. Now that's selfishness...

That reminds me, back on the subject of cannabis, there can be long-term side-effects from smoking, but not from the cannabis itself. Some dealers cut other nasty stuff into it to bulk it out and/or make it more addictive. For example, I once knew of a dealer who used to add Wood Varnish and Heroin into his hash. This sort of thing is probably the reason for all of the side-effects that have been reported. If you have a reliable supplier, though, you'll be okay.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention this before: Sydney mentioned something about having heard that cannabis causes mental problems like schizophrenia. There is actually some truth in this: Cannabis can't cause these problems, but if you have any underlying mental disorders, then cannabis can often bring them to the surface, and cause you to suffer the effects of them, instead of them remaining dormant in your subconscious.

Not in the sense that humans and other animals all evolved from one tiny form of live. Mainly because it is not congruent with my religious beleifs and also because I believe it is not as "factual" as most scientists would have us believe. I do believe in micro-adaptation, but I don't think it is possible to create a new species.

NO. Vegetarianism is one of my enemies. I think that meat is an essential part of peoples diets. Animals are here to be eaten.
