And more to the point, what did she do in the first place to get this much attention apart from give the public something to talk about?

Ok, Im probably going to get lynched for this, especially considering the general political orientation of OWF, but.....I think Margaret Thatcher was a brilliant PM. Had faults yes, but a great PM and the best in a long time. I wasn't alive for her reign, but having read about it with sources from supporters and opposers, as well as neutrals, I have to say I think she sounded great. So yeah, for once I have to disagree with you.

The Jade Goody musical however, is absurd. Not an outrage, but just...silly.

Your political views are your own, the eighties were just a very bad time the world over to be 'different' as sort of hammered in by the comic book V for Vendetta (At the time Alan Moore was in an openly different relationship with a wife and another female lover they shared). Whether this was a cause, consequence or totally unrelated to the rise of Neo-Conservatism I couldn't say, but i have heard some disturbing things from my older tutors here that the Thatcher government wanted to abolish homosexuality as an abstract concept and there was talks of building concentration camps for people with AIDS, naturally I have no evidence to back this up.

Oh, and there's a reason that Scotland has a serious hate complex on England, she was that reason.

I do know that Thatcher had very questionable views on homosexuality, one of the faults of hers that I find most profound. The concentration camps thing sounds like a wild rumour sparked by hatemongering.

And there's more reasons than Thatcher that Scotland hates England, although Im not entirely sure what she did to aggreive the Scots.

Like the majority of Conservative prime ministers before her, Thatcher treated Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as extensions of England, rather than seperate countries making up one cohesive United Kingdom, therefore not only did all of her more questionable acts in England impact in Scotland, they never took into account the differences in political and religious orientation between Scottish and English people, like the fact that England was predominantly Protestant whereas Scotland was predominantly Catholic, among many other things. This left Scottish people feeling distinctly unfabulous and like they'd been betrayed by the MPs that were supposed to be doing what was best for them.

This was not helped by the fact that when New Labour came in they adopted many of Thatcher's policies and refused to clean up any of her mess. Scottish people felt totally disilusioned in a democratic system where neither choice had their best interests at heart, the SNP grew majorly in popularity, spewing all that Braveheart bullshit to children too young to understand the politics and Scotland eventually vouched for devolution and seperation from England and the United Kingdom.
