Right now, at this very moment I'm listening to Bon Jovi - Always. I'm a big fan of Bon Jovi's songs and I like rock in general. Rammstein works well too, at least they're better then Hit Trance Mania or The Celtic Circle. Any kind of music is good except for techno and such..!

I don't think we should turn this over into "What are listening now to?" thread. The whole point of this one was to kill that bitch.

Anyway, does anyone listen to international bands? I like O-zone, that Romanian band. But the BEP's kick ass!

I can't stope listening to Black by Pearl Jam, because it reminds me of the time hwne my girlfriend and I had a huge fight concerning her and her ex-boyfriend...I found myself completely alone without her for what seemed like an eternity...Even though we are back together, and have been for quite a long time, I still have the fear of losing her again...Listening to songs like Black help me cope with those sorts of feelings...

Honestly, do you try to say the most retarded things ever?
This thread isn't turning into a 'What are you listening to?' thread, the discussions are exactly what is meant to be in here. Read Hobo's instructions again.
And 'International bands'? I'm sure that some people listen to bands not from their own country. But I'm not sure on that one.

Testament are thrash by the way. I bought their album The Legacy the other day, but I have so many other new ones to listen to at the moment I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Just some constructive criticism, Fax.

I'm thinking about getting the latest System of a Down album. I haven't listened to them, but most of my friends like them, so I figured I'd give it a go.

Conformity! Run, children!

Yeah, it definatley has some classics on it. Radio/Video has to be one of the coolest SOAD songs evar, mainly because of the Jamacin-esque influence near the end.

I'm tabbing a lot lately. Guess what band I tab, and you'll get the cookie.

Okay: Don't be a retard.

And SOAD are great. I like all of their albums, as I find them all quite different. I liked Toxicity best for their older style, but they're quite different now, and Mezmerize is a spectacular album as well, so I say go ahead and get it.

I'm listening to Paul Mounsey - North.

For all you British types, that's the music that was used for the Visit Scotland advert. And, it's awesome... that's about all I can say. I'm definately going to get this licensed for my film.

Great song, except when Aaron Lewis tries to bust it out acoustically. Blegh.

[transitioning]

Ska was originally Jamaican. The British wave and subsequent third wave were just updates to the sound. And yes, it bears variation. While the main backbone will always incorporate the up tempo beats and brass section, bands still retain a sound of their own. Reel Big Rish sounds different than Catch 22, Catch 22 sounds different than Streetlight Manifesto (despite the same songwriter), and Streetlight Manifesto sounds different than The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. There's no denying that there are generic bands of the breed, but it's an annoyance that plagues all genres.

Placebo/Muse/SOAD?

Pink Floyd- Great Gig in the Sky

Mainly because the screaming woman pwns all! It starts off sounding like a piano ballad joined by a hawiian sounded slide guitar until an unknown voice cuts in, supposedly the voice of John Lennon telling us that he isn't frightened of dying.

"I'm not frightened of dying. Any time will do. Why should I frightened of death, theres no reason for it, you've gotta go some time."
Then the drums and screaming kick in for a few minutes. It dies off towards the end going back to the original piano intro.
At some point a voice says "If you hear this whisper you are dying". It then fades out towards the quiet ending.

Proof that Jacob, Leto and I should start a band.

Can't Stop - RHCP

I <3 Flea. Playing along has caused my slapping and popping hand some pain, but it's so awesome. Then again I always seem to hurt myself while slapping on bass. Once I was air slapping and spanked my own penis, needless to say, it hurt...

Anyone else play geetars and stuffs? I know Super Munch and Leeum do.

Disturbed - Prayer.

Really, really awesome song. On two levels... one it's a great song, sung with real feeling, and two it reminds me of all the things I was doing when that particular song was released.

I play bass, but I can't stand slapping.

Flea is f-ing amazing though. Everything he does sounds so right. Even that repulsive slapping.

If only I could wipe that sound off the face of the earth...

I like it. But not that much, I think only Flea pulls it off that well. I play slap in only one of my bands songs and thats because its always the first song and we want to look virtuoso and impressive. So everyone shows off in it, especially the drummer (Crazy Drummers!)

Help you...I can

Flea is an amazing bassist, one of my favourite slap riffs by him is the verse in Aeroplane. You don't start to appreciate the funky sound of slap until you listen to the likes of him and other bassists like Les Claypool in Primus.

Bootsy Collins is an 'effing funk bassist legend, he reminds me of Elton John... can play his instrument amazingly and has the queerest dress sense ever He's noted for some really sick stuff on bass; on a DVD of him live he asks for some volunteers from the audience to hold some basses. He then starts finger tapping an awesome riff on 5 of them while the crowd watch in awe

...before I hi-jack this thread into some bass galore thing I'll chip in on some music stuff.

I've been listening to quite alot of Send More Paramedics, a zombie-core band from here in North England. Their music is like Hardcore Punk...with zombies - pretty cool shit There's some downloadable choons on their site, worth a look if you ask me

Bass playing? Ska has some badass bass playing. Booyah.

But if you want the baddest of the badass playing, though, there's a man named Kinley Wolf (sp), aka "Barney." He was the bassist in a band called Lord Tracy I saw play at the 2005 Dallas guitar show. Lord Tracy was simply a pretty generic band rock/hard rock/metal type band from the late '80s, and only put out one under-publicized studio album (plus a live release). For anyone interested, the front man, Terri Glaze, was an early player in Pantera. But back to the bass thing.

Barney has worked up an absolutely amazing bass solo routine, clocking in roughly around 6-7 minutes. Listening was like hearing a lead guitar player shred. After their concert, picked up a copy of their live CD from 1989, which had an old recording of the bass solo. I strongly suggest anyone interested in hearing this badassery to give me a line (ripped it to my computer, wma format).

I just listened to Where's the Love by the BEP's. I can't stand it when good musicians make songs that sound like they came out of the Backstreet Boys. In fact, I can't stand Boy Bands period. Death to them all. I wish I was still taking piano lessons cuz I was getting pretty good. Ahh, damn you Marching Band!

My musical taste is so different to anybody on here. I really can't stand rock/guitar-based music for some reason. I prefer acid/mushroom-jazz/FSO based music with a stylish beat. Yes, that pretty much sums it up.

Same here, I'm sure I've put myself out on the forums as a hiphop fantic, but the truth is, I just like good, soul delving music in general. Like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, etc. Joni Mitchell is my favorite independant musicians, she has never sold anything to advertisment, and creates a beautiful combination of roick, jazz, and folk in her music.

Okay, I too have some favourite bands:

Good Charlotte*, Linkin Park*, Blink 182, Sum 41, Greenday, Flogging Molly, Breaking Benjamin, RHCP, Thousand Foot Krutch and I do like some songs of Gorillaz, like Feel Good Inc. and 19-2000.

Oh, and Muse and Dream Theater (That better, Fax?)

Although I do like old fashioned rock, like Van Halen and Queen.

I went to a Dutch Ska band recently, during one of them festivals that are organised in my area. The band was Beef! and it was quite alright. Try listening to Late Night Sessions, or Memory Fast Forward.

*So shoot me for it.

Anyways, currently I'm listening to Thousand Foot Krutch' This is a Call.

As for intruments, I play guitar, and I used to sing in a band.
