I saw the third Madoka Magica film with a friend on Saturday. It was a one-off screening in Adelaide, so there were lots of horrible neckbeards and faggots. I tried not to make eye contact with any of them.

The movie was interesting. It had lots of the things that made the series good, but none of the things that made it great. The pacing was probably the worst thing about it. It spent way too long establishing the confusing setting without beginning to hint that anything weird was going on, let alone explaining it. The middle literally lasted 10 minutes. Most of the movie felt like it was spent on the ending, which consisted of about 6 really long sequences. I was really ready for it to end with Homura dying, but then a whole bunch of weird stuff that didn't totally make sense happened. And then I guess it kind of ended.

I was a bit underwhelmed. I enjoyed it, but it was clearly an afterthought to the series. I've already rewatched the series with my mum, but I doubt I'll ever be coming back to Rebellion.

I've been thinking about getting into Madoka, as some of my friends watched it.

I've watched the first Godfather movie. It was quite a good movie.

Then I watched Godfather Part 2. It was uninspiring and pointless.

I believe it's mostly because of the great acting, well-written characters, and, for most of the time, nice directing, though for me those can never compensate a weak story.

It's good and even if you don't like it, it's literally five to six hours of your life.

Great director, great studio, great writer, great composer and great Japanese cast (Fairly good dub cast too).

that's fucking crazy, i watched The Godfather again just last night, which i hardly ever do because it's a pretty fucking long film. it's great, but i love the whole gangster/mafioso genre anyway. i haven't seen part 2 or 3 though.

you know the scene where the godfather is shot about 5 times on the car near the beginning? i could be wrong but i heard that scene didn't visually include fake bullet holes in the godfather as the guns were being fired (only afterwards if you look) because the people making the film were told it looked too realisitic. and this was the early 70's, so it may have been a little too close to home for some people. so they didn't include them until he falls off the car. which i find fucking crazy because there are a couple of other violent scenes that look pretty realistic, one in my memory being those people machine-gunned to death in bed. so there's a completely useless piece of movie trivia. if it's true.

i intend to watch the others.

I found that scene so unrealistic that it made me laugh. Vito bounced off almost everything before finally falling on the ground. I'm pretty sure that's not the normal behavior for someone shot five times

Don't get your hopes for the Godfather II too high. It's just more of the same, with absolutely nothing more. In a bad sense.

i know right? for some reason it was perfectly acceptable for actors to start fucking pinballing off the surroundings when they were dying, like a big finale. like you said, you don't do that shit if you're shot. your muscles contract and you shriek. it's not a feather duster.

i don't expect much from part 2 or 3, i've heard more criticism than praise.

Godfather II is a very, very different film from the first. Calling it more of the same......is it because some of the same characters are in it?

Anyway, the second is not as good as the first. Still a pretty good movie. The third is boring, and awful.

I watched This Is The End, that apocalypse comedy movie with Seth Rogen, James Franco etc. It was very stupid but enjoyable, I wish I had seen it in the movies, it's exactly the type of movie you'd watch with a few friends and laugh.

The idea behind Godfather was Michael's transformation from a good guy to a cold-hearted son of a bitch. Somehow, even though at the end of the first Godfather he is clearly presented as the latter, in the second movie they try to reverse it just show that transformation again. Guess what, it doesn't fucking work. There are literally no other deeper ideas in the story besides that. The Vito's story, although it's enjoyable to watch, is very very short, adds nothing to the main story and let's face it, it's not very original.

There was nothing about Michael in any part of the second movie that insinuated that he was a good person.

Sure, but that's a matter of personal taste in most instances. It really is a well made movie. I'd stop well short of masterpiece, but it isn't bad.

The movie is fucking great though, regardless of your setting argument. Even if you don't enjoy it you can appreciate the fantastic atmosphere, music, dynamics within the family, etc.

Oh yeah I just remembered I saw Wolf of Wall Street on Wednesday.

I don’t recall seeing a movie that made me despise the protagonist so much. DiCaprio is a little too good at playing a scumbag.

just quickly on the subject of gangster movies for anyone who may care: people need to watch Donnie Brasco and A Bronx Tale, if you haven't already. both of them aren't that heavily involved in the gangster side of things, but that isn't to say it doesn't dominate each film. they're both pretty well done, albeit somewhat dated, and it pains me to say that because it was the fucking 90's. that wasn't that long ago, man.

Donnie Brasco is more of a love story but like i said the gangster theme still dominates it. it's Johnny Depp so what do you expect. also Al Pacino and Michael Madsen and a few other faces you might recognise. it's cool. some fucking dodgy scenes though, i laughed at a few things i shouldn't really have laughed at. to be honest it isn't brilliant, but i'm glad i watched it. you mainly need to see it for the latter two actors i mentioned.

A Bronx Tale is kind of the same in that it concentrates more on the life and decisions of a boy growing up in the Bronx (fucking obviously), his attentions constantly moving between his hard-working honest dad and a local mafia crimeboss called Sonny. directed by Robert De Niro and written by Chazz Palminteri (they're both in it too). i don't expect you to know who the fuck Chazz is, but i reckon you'll remember after watching this. he portrays Sonny as having a cold-blooded exterior but with an almost firm-but-fair kind of rule, and he does it fucking well. this film, in contrast to the previous, is fucking great and you really should watch it. i'll vouch for that. and there's a surprise appearance right at the end, but i'm giving no spoilers and i suggest you don't spoil it for yourselves.

anyway they're both good, and often overlooked.

i said "quickly". i lied.

I'm watching Mirai Nikki. I hate the main character, and I love the other main character.

You may want to avoid images of Yuno (And Yuki, Deus and hell just about the whole show) floating around the internet if you don't want to get the spoiler equivalent of anal rape.
