Is possessing a bird too much, more than, you know, coming back to life and breaking your body, atom by atom, moving it all to somewhere else, rebuilding it all and keeping your previous memory?

You can't teleport, everytime he dies he starts back at the beginning off his fall. Poor Eba hasn't teleported once, and even if he could possess the bird he'd hardly have time to concentrate.
