Well, I liked the amateurishly overdubbed and re-sound-effected version that someone (OANST?) posted on here and that has since been taken down from Youtube. The original left me a bit cold in comparison.
You mean the Troma version? Troma was the first North American production company to dub it. That's the version I remember from when I was a kid.

Troma did a dub?
Who voiced Totoro? the Toxic Avenger?

I also would've accepted Sgt Kabukiman.

:
Troma Films, under their 50th St. Films banner, distributed the dub of the film co-produced by Jerry Beck. It was released on VHS and DVD by Fox Video. Troma's and Fox's rights to this version expired in 2004.
Reading this, I found out that Spirited Away was released 10 years ago. I love that movie so much. I want to watch it again right now.

And it bombed becasue there's literally nothing to it but excellent animation.

I still plan to see it though.
Don't say there's nothing to it yet if you haven't seen it though. The story may not be rocket science but it's lovely and heartwarming.

No. Rereading my last post, I should have said 'amateur' rather than 'amateurishly'. It was a video on Youtube from a sound editing student, who had completely redone the sound of that one scene. And it was great.

I figured you meant something like that, I just really wanted to share the fact that Troma went out of their way to acquire the rights to Totoro. Despite the fact that it went over everyone's head except for Sekto because him and I are illustrious film buffs and not nerds. At all.

Well since this is now an officially sanctioned anime thread:

My two favourite scenes from my favourite anime. (Might want to watch this scene before the latter video)

So has anyone here actually watched any anime series later than ~2005?

It's of interest to me. Most anime people know of and judge by tends to be 90s stuff (DBZ, Trigun, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, FLCL, NGE etc) with a few early 00s stuff (FMA, Paranoia Agent) and then we have the shonen long runners and the odd outlying series from the last five years that somehow makes it over here (TTGL, Death Note).

So yeah, simple interest to see if anyone has tried more recent or exotic stuff. I know you and Nikki are big fans of Eureka Seven, which was more awesome than I could have expected.

I was rather dissapointed Satsuki's mother survived in Totoro. I know it is a kid's movie, but the whole and they all lived happily ever after... ending seemed a bit cliché. It wasn't even some triumphant overcoming of cancer, I can't remember what actually happened but didn't I turn out that she only had a cold or something anticlimactic and stupid?

Death Note, Elfen Leid and Gankutsuou I rather enjoyed. Dective Conan and Code Geass were okay.

I like reading Manga but I'm not the biggest fan of watching Anime (Its weird I know.) My friends love anime however, I sometimes watch Bleach if my mates are watching it and they keep saying I should watch Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist because they are the best 'apparently'.

Truth be told, I could take it or leave it.

That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. I've watched Hell Girl on and off, but I can't account for how recent that is.

Also, I think FLCL counts as early 00's. I know sure as hell it wasn't dubbed until then. That's another one of my favorites.
Blue Submarine No. 6 was another great one in the same vein. I prefer quality of animation/story over quantity of episodes. Dragon Ball was the one exception, but it also had enough filler that I could miss an episode on occasion and still be on the same page.

Funny, i just got FLCL the complete series today...and yeah, i thought that was more early 00's. And there's lotsa great anime that's new, FMA, Geass, Paranoia Agent-good stuff. But Anime hit alot of it's major notes in the 80's and 90's. in the wake of anime such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell, anime was showing both it's maturity and ability to tell good stories, as well as it's marketability worldwide. I don't discriminate between old and new anime. You just can't help but draw comparison. Does Naruto or Bleach hold a candle to DBZ or Yu Yu Hakusho? Doubtful. Alot of my faves are older, yeah, but I find that I do have certain preferences for older anime, mostly in style and art. i dislike the overly glossy, shiny anime of late. Of course, that is a minor gripe. The dubs and writing of said dubs this generation far outweigh many older productions. Besides Bebop-it is divine. Oh, and Wings, I'm sure you get this alot, but-WATCH BEBOP, MAN! lol

Bebop and Outlaw Star remain two of my favorite animes and biggest creative influences to date, and they were both 90's.

I never got into FMA, and it's fans certainly didn't help in that.

These last few years have produced some of the best titles the medium has seen.

I am not, actually. I watch quite alot, I simply mean that the style is a little much. I loved Code Geass, but lord it was like a seizure inducing rainbow with robots. lol i prefer darker, more realistic palettes, or at least not glistening as if all the characters are soaked in lube. lol Part of the reason I didn't care for Eureka Seven, that and how contrived it felt. Sad, as bones is a brilliant studio. Anyone on here seen Wolf's Rain?

My exposure to anime is limited, having only watched Death Note, and about 50 episodes of Monster. Is it worth finishing off watching the rest of the latter?

What?! My complaint with Studio Bones is they produce really really drab looking anime with lifeless colours. It was nearly enough to make me drop Eureka Seven and RahXephon.

Anyway yeah. The last few years have produced amazing titles like Madoka, Bakemonogatari, Steins;Gate, Shiki, Higurashi, Tiger and Bunny, Nanoha etc etc. You just have to know where to look.

Also, that is gloss and rainbows (and awesome), not fucking Code Geas.

That wasn't really filler, considering they went to the planet in search of some important items (which they got), there was just lots of titties and slapstick along the way.

Besides, even if there was filler, it only came out to be 26 episodes long.

To be fair, I can easily see someone thinking that if they never watched past midseries. The second quarter of that show... man... angstangstangst.

Even without the rest of the awesome, though, it would have been worth it just for this.

I'm with you there. Eureka Seven turned Twenty-Minutes-With-Jerks into an Hour-With-Jerks, but the payoff was fantastic. The second shit hit the fan, you were really on the edge of your seat, hoping these characters you became so intimately familiar with made it through.

On the other hand, high school boys are
useless outside battle and sports anime.
But they're recklessly trying to make a slice-of-life anime about us.
Ah, we are high school boys,
the miserable high school boys.

Watashi wa kawaii!
That's pretty much the Japanese equivelent of saying "I cute". You need to put a desu on the end.
