Yes, but if you're doing it out of fear (not only for yourself, but for your family) then surely you'd also be afraid of the people who do support Saddam, and if they ever found out you didn't do your best at your job, you're going to be pretty fo-f*cked.

I'd just like to say that the fact that Bush had 80% of the military's support in the last election says something. One of my good friends was sent out to Iraq, and he's come back as strong a Bush supporter as ever.

If you were fighting in a war, wouldn't you want to believe it's justifiable? You wouldn't want your efforts to be in vain, would you? Many soldiers need to believe that what they're doing is absolutely neccessary to maintain sanity.

If there are no American or British forces standing around in Iraq, and instead just a bunch of troops come in to arrest Saddam and fly him to the US, then nobody will have any enemies to shoot at. This means less lives, less cost, less warfare, and an improved public image of America. With Saddam out of the picture, his supporters and enemies will be left to squabble among themselves. A little careful planning and money from the US and a new Iraqi government could be set up there.

So we expand the operation then, arrest his sons, and as many of his supporters as possible. If any of them attack, they will be shot. The Americans can set up a temporary government, and new political parties can set themselves up ready for an election.

No need to bomb the holy bajesus out of the place, just need to arrest/shoot up a few nasty types, get Iraq back on track, and get out again.
