Finished season 1 of iZombie. I'd heard of the show, and knew to expect good things, but I had 0 hype and no idea what was actually about until I started watching. I'm glad my friend put me on to it, because it was really enjoyable.
It had a really good ramp through the series, and the last episode managed to balance lots of things happening, setting up for a second season and not being overbearing. Some episodes are much stronger than others, and there are a few shortcomings with the writing style at times, but I strongly recommend it.
Also I've been keeping up to date with this season of GoT. Holy motherfucker episodes 8 and 9 were exciting. I was getting seriously pumped up watching them. The undead sequence was really well done, apart from when they overstepped their mark with the creepy child zombies. The jerky, unnatural way that they moved still makes me think Jason and the Argonauts and I love it. I'm out all day Monday, so I'm going to have to wait for a few hours to see the finale, which sucks :c
Oh, and I've dug into the first 4-5 eps of How to Get Away With Murder, which is ok. If you can ignore some irritating plot elements, and some really irritating characters then it's pretty enjoyable. Apparently it gets better, but I don't know how much more time I'll give it. I can see why people like it, but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone here.
When did I become this mainstream?
e: Actually I also watched the first 30-odd episodes of Dragon Ball fairly recently too. It's fun, and a hell of a lot better than Dragon Ball Z. The two are chalk and cheese. The fighting sequences did start to overstay their welcome when you had each fight in the World Martial Arts Tournament finals lasting an entire episode, but other than that the pace was pretty good. In the first 12 episodes they found all of the dragon balls, met a bunch of people, stopped a baddie and learned about Goku being an ape-man in an exciting conclusion to the first plot arc.
The humor is weird though, and I doubt I would enjoy it if the entire thing wasn't a huge nostalgia trip. Goku patting people's genitals to check their gender is just... bizarre. So is Master Roshi perving on Bulma, who is 16. She exposes herself to him twice in the first few episodes (Well the 2nd time is a shapeshifter in her form, but same difference). Goku and Krillin having to find a girl for Roshi before he agrees to train them is one thing, but Roshi's pedophilia is another completely. It's pretty obvious the man who wrote the stories was a giant manchild. Although from the direction the series took in DBZ it's no real surprise.
So yeah by 30 episodes it lost a lot of steam and I got bored. It was a lot of fun to relive my youth in them for a while though. Rose tint my glasses any day.
