I saw Iron Man a week ago. I liked it more than I thought I would.

Word. I only went and saw it because I'm such a fan of Robert Downey Jr., but I was pleasantly surprised.

Graham Norton and Eddie Izzard, brilliant...
Eddie Izzard?! What?!

I just saw the beginning of some French flavored movie where this writer was in a coma. It was pretty good, but I didn't get to finish it. I think 'bell' was in the title.

I saw the Strangers earlier (lol5AM). It was fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, only detriment as this fucktard who was like 'AH, SAWED OFF, THAT'LL DO SOME DAMAGE" when the guy grabs a shotgun with a most non-sawed off barrel.

Last movie you've seen?

...Well...because I'm bored, let's have a chat about movies... What was the last movie you've seen, and how good (or god-awful) was it? I saw John Carpenter's The Thing on TV, and The Strangers in the theater earlier today.

The Thing = WIN
The Strangers = ...Not so much.

Haxan. I thought it was funnier than it was grotesque. B&W, crazy facial expressions, asinine body motions, and upbeat music all made it seem more like a Charlie Chaplin film.

Oh no, you misunderstand, I lurv Eddie Izzard. I was inquiring as to what you were talking about, as I simply cannot be bothered to follow conversations through pages and paragraphs and whatnot.

And you'd be right to think I'd be wondering about Graham Norton. WHO?

Alright people, prepare for something fucked up.

BUT FIRST, A STORY
In the last few weeks, I've watched a few Slasher flicks with my pal Jordan. I've learned to appreciate things in them, notice little niggly bits (Most deaths for males in slashers are more or less quick, for women they're LONG AND DRAWN OUT AND EUGGGH) so when Jordan suggests we watch LUCKER THE NECROPHAGUS I think "This must be good." as apparently maybe 1000 people max have seen it.

So: LUCKER THE NECROPHAGUS is a slasher. Except it's poorly edited, poorly dubbed (lol Dutch) and has quite possible the most revolting premise in history; Lucker is a serial killer who murders women and then has sex with the corpses. I wish I was kidding. And much to mky surprise, there's a ten minute long scene wherein (This is pretty gross, honestly, like, if you're squeemish, you may puke) Lucker has sealed a corpse in an apartment for a month with the gas on. He airs it out, and then repeatedly feels up the rotten body and licks his hand. TEN FUCKING MINUTES. The plot doesn;t matter because it's retarded, and since it's almost impossible to find short of pirating I still reccomend not watching it, as another friend of Jordan's said "It made me feel Angry, Dirty, and Bored at the same time."

You pretty much watch those things to say you've watched them, much like 2girls1cup. when you get desensitized they can be kind of interesting. when I read said spoiler tags, it didn't really make me feel anything, but that's probably because I'm not watching it right now. also depends on mood (ie if it's that soppy HUMANITY IS GREAT MURDER IS SO BAD time of the month, it shouldn't be watched, whereas if it's right now, alright).**

I saw 28 Weeks Later. what a horrible followup to a wonderful film. I mean it was just so sad. not that much good zombie death, not that good story and ultimately just depressing

**what a horrible and fragmented paragraph that was. apologies in advance

I re-watched Hot Fuzz the other day. It's as awesome this time as every other tiem I've watched it.

I also saw the new Indiana Jones film even more recently. Utterly daft in places with some very silly seuqences, but the plot was interesting and if the silliness had been reduced, it could've been a very intriguing story. As it was, it was a reasonably entertaining if light-hearted adventure, the typical Indiana Jones nonsense. Not that that's a bad thing though, as I still reasonably enjoyed the film.

I saw Indie and didn't hate it. But I do wish the interdimensional alien dudes had been entwined more seamlessly with the archaeological and cultural stuff.

I just saw Iron Man and loved it. It wasn't so much an Iron Man film as it was a political and military thriller that happened to have Iron Man in it. I wish we could have seen more of IR, but that would have meant less screen time for Robert Downey Jr., which is unacceptable.

The good thing about Iron Man was it didn't take itself too seriously.

I just got back from the Hulk and it was incredible (No pun intended. ) I loved the scene with Tony Stark at the end of it. They are really making a franchise out of the Avenger heros, something which hasn't been done in cinema in years. Certainly not in my life time.

Indy 4 was terrible. As a die hard Indy fan it disappointed me alot, as Wings of Fire will know - I didn't stop moaning about it for about two weeks. The "artifact" was poor. I didn't pay to see a sci-fi , the fridge was shite, as well as the waterfall and the tree. The ants had no thrill either. They were all digital, they should have kept the tree cutter things and had the fight scene with them. Much more menacing that a bunch of pissed off insects. And John Williams score was pretty bad, with no memorable music like the other three films.

/rant

My first time using the spoiler tag, are ya diggin it?

Just Seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and I have to say I found it quite fantastic. The plot was excellent, the characters all had a significant amount of depth and the musical score was simply superb. I also liked the way that the females functioned more as actual characters and less as mere big eyed outlets for the artists sexual frustration/imagination. What a beautiful movie.

Now to check out more of Studio Ghibli's stuff.

Saw Speed Racer last night. So incredibly much better than I expected. The only slight criticism I'll make is that the race in the middle of the film went a bit too long, but other than that it was 15 kinds of awesome! I just love the stylised use of colours and designs and the editing crosscuts and fades with characters in the foreground.

I came out of the cinema and caught myself doing 95kph in an 80 zone. I also tried to race a taxi out of a traffic light but I'd forgotten I was driving a Mitsubishi.

Spirited Away, amazing. Princess Mononoke, also amazing. rest of Miyozaki's filmography: decent, nothing spectacular, all to a similar formulae

Last night I watched George Carlin's last dvd release, the aptly titled Life is Worth Losing (lol). better than I anticipated, having not liked him too much previously... some amusing gags, although sometimes he does the "repeat exact same line for emphasis" thing that is annoying. Recyclable pussies, hilarious idea. almost as hilarious as his dance off of the stage.

I've heard the opposite about Miyazaki's less advertised work. Part of the reason being it's more understandable to a western audience. I mean, come on, what the fuck is a Radish Spirit? (I still love it though)

I'll say that Kiki's Delivery Service didn't satisfy me as much, though. I've heard Totoro was rather gay, and I have yet to learn much about Nausica or Castle in the Sky.

Recently, I've started watching a list of animated films I've always thought about seeing, now that I bribed my mother to put us back on the full Netflix plan. Starter was Kaena: The Prophecy. Pretty damn decent and interesting. I think most people on the forum would enjoy it. The nipples irked me, though. Next, I'm either doing Tokyo Godfathers or The Triplets of Belleville. Anyone seen?

Haven't seen Tokyo Godfather, but I've heard good things, triplets of Belleville is quite possibly one of the greatest pieces of animation I've ever seen. And I keep mistaking Nausice with Nadia, goddamn.

Spirited Away, amazing. Princess Mononoke, also amazing. rest of Miyozaki's filmography: decent, nothing spectacular, all to a similar formulae
Really? I've just watched both Spirited Away and Mononoke and thought, while Spirited Away was the best, that Nausicaa > Mononokem, but perhaps that's because it is characters and character development I look to most in movies and Nausicaa herself was far too likable for her own good while Ashitaka was just a bit of a Mary-Sue. And would it have killed them to flesh out the arm thing a little more? The fight and escape from Iron Town was awesomeness personified. But I'm speaking relatively here, Mononoke was still superb and far beyond the current standards of movies I watch.
