If we were girls, we could get popular by doing anything:

karate, kendo, mahjong, cyborg, synchronized swimming...
On the other hand, high school boys are
useless outside battle and sports anime.
But they're recklessly trying to make a slice-of-life anime about us.

Dead bodies float after sufficient putrefaction has filled the abdominal cavity with gas. It's not a magic alive/dead switch. Human beings are generally positively buoyant unless their muscle mass is higher than usual, though clothing and filling the lungs can cause sinking.
But as we know Aerith isn't human. I have no idea what her natural buoyancy is.
