Work at Rupture Farms (v.9)

I have seen some really bad RP'ing in the time I've been here.

*Nostalgic sigh* remember Chirpy? Or Outlaw King? We never did decide which of them won the title of 'Worst RPGer Ever'. Hyper-violence vs. downright gross. If you had to be stuck with one of them on a desert island...
Anyway, enough of my nostalgia. On with the show!

Oh, and as some advice, I'd say you don't have to repeat the last person's post when you post.

IC: The mudokon who had followed Anni said "Whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down! I'm just wondering what your purpose is here. As in, why did you come here in the first place? "But perhaps we're starting on the wrong leg. Speaking of which..." she looked down at the wound on Mars's leg, "...we probably should get that fixed up." She looked at Anni, "I heard you saying before you might be able to bandage it up using supplies in this lab? I think the first thing to do is take care of that, then we need to get out of here before the slig on the other side of this door gets in. But what's going to happen when he frees the other slig, I don't know." She walked over to the controls to the lab door and put her palm against the panel. "I can try to slow him down though." Her hand lit up with a blue glow, but nothing like Mars's, as she pushed it into the panel. There was a fizz and then a few sparks leapt from the control panel both on the inside of the room and on the outside too. "There, the lock on the door is busted now, so they'll either have to fix it or get the door open manually. Either way, it'll buy us time." "Thanks. And the reason I'm here is because it looked like the biggest thing on Oddworld. It was huge, important...I just wanted to help out here. But it looks like all I've done is wreck everyhing." Mars slumped down and covered his face with his hands. "I'm a screw-up" he said depressingly. Mars REALLY should go. He could at any second...

The bit in red was totally pointless. We know what just happened; we read it! Unless you're replying to something that happened a few days ago, don't worry about recapping it. That's not just to Mars; he was merely the poor victim I used in my example.


IC you... (waaaay too much Lord of the Rings recently):
Anni looked nervous at the mention of the slig in the cage and spake thus, "Uh, I'm a little worried that that slig might have seen me." She hesitated, "I mean, being seen with two natives, freeing one of them from a cage... If he saw who I am... I dunno." She looked at Hembar, "Is there anything you can do, like... like erase him memory? I just don't want him telling everyone I set him free. They seem pretty serious about catching him."

Grace watched, mildly bemused, as the snoozer and the slig had their little fight. A few moments later, they disappeared around a corner but he could hear them and it sounded like the situation was under control. He rapped on the boss's door. "Yeah, you can come out now, if you want."

After analyzing multiples voice samples, SU-01 deduced that the slig was telling the truth. Apparently, the glukkon and him were knowing each other so it would be useless to interrogate the glukkon.

"OK, I just suggest you to go and try to reason him but do not attempt to open the door in any way. It's still up to the Main Executive to decide or not if he wants to grant access to his office. Even if it's quite useless now, a security lockdown is still a security lockdown, OK ?"

He received an alert on his HUD.

"All right, better check this out" he thoughts. "Although it might just be a simple malfunction, since the entire system is obsolete."

He headed towards the labs, once again. Since it was a low level alert, he didn't take the precaution of a stealth approach so he could be heard from a distance. He finally reached the labs door. He tried to open it but it was locked from the inside. The walls and doors were a little more tick in this part of the factory, probably to prevent the researches done inside the labs to be damaged from a possible explosion. In any case, he could see three or so heat signatures inside the room but he couldn't identify them as sligs or mudokons...or whatever.

"This is SU-01. I've been send because of a malfunctioning door. I thought this might have been an escape attempt. Is everything alright in here ? Please identify yourself and report your situation. (Yeah, he is polite when he's not in red alert )

Flad was heading back to R+R when he noticed Borso lying near the fallen sign. Flad began to prod Borso, "Hey wake up, I need your help."

Race: Mudokon
Gender: Drone (male)

Age: 25 Oddworld years

Appearance: An ordinary green Mudokon however has a blue tint when thinking about his past.

Personality: Preferres to get the job done before anything else. thinks things through but not very smart. Helps others when the need arises.

Equipment: none unless you count his loincloth.

History: Slen was a slave at Gluck Shock Power Station. He was born in the power station's labour egg birthing area and since has been a slave. He has watched several escape attempts, all of them failures. Sleg came up with an escape plan: He would save up the very little wages he earned. (Gluck Shock was one of the few places that paid there slaves wages. usually just to see what they would do with it.) With enough Moolah he would buy himself and earn his freedom. Slen saved his Moolah for fifteen years and almost earned the Moolah he needed. However the higher ups at the Margog Cartel found out about what he was doing. They decided to take all of his Moolah away and transfer him to a working environment which did not pay slaves: Rupture Farms. The Glukkons spent Slens Moolah on labour eggs.

The huge black train came to a halt in the factory's station. Inside sitting alone was Slen, his wrists where tied together with chains. He looked up as the train's rusty dark doors open and a Slig shoved another Mudokon (Erp) out of the train. The Slig approached Slen, "This way ya filthy Mud" The Slig said. He grabbed Slen by the arm, pulled him to the door and threw him out. "Welcome to your new home" The Slig said and chuckled, he then walked back into the deeper parts of the train.

Slen was lying on the floor, having been thrown out of the train. He picked himself up and looked around, "This place is much bigger then Gluck Shock," he thought. Slen then noticed Erp standing near him. "Um h-hi uh, isn't there supposed to be some kind of escort or um something. To take us to our work areas. My name's Slen." Slen said to Erp.

Ic: Opril started walking off into the factory, eventually finding his way to the main lift. He operated the machine raising himself to the first floor.
"What a fascinating place this is, I can see why it sucked in so much Moolah."
Opril said to himself, while running the index claw of his upper right arm under his chin. Suddenly he heard a rattle coming from the "Lab cages" near by.

Opril, not aware what was currently taking place in the lab area. When he looked around the corner he noticed a slig (Flad) showing up on his thermal scope, that was trying to open the door to the lab.

"Ehh, what seems to be the problem? you seem bumfuzzled." Opril asked, grinning.
Before the slig could say a word, Opril held his right upper arm out in front of himself, slamming his razor sharp claws into the labs door. Sparks sprayed from the door, raining on top on Opril. "That should do it, I've had much practice breaking in to places believe it or not."

The lab door slowly began to open, but halted half way up. Opril jerked his claws out flailing his arm in the air a few times to shake some of the sparks from the door off, then turned towards the slig, gesturing at the door to him. "Well, go on.. you were wanting in there weren't you? Oh by the way, the names Opril."

I think we've been struck by several-people-posting-at-the-same-time syndrome again., since slig# 5719 just said Flad's no longer at the door. But also Jimmy's character SU-01 is there at the lab doors, so I'd suggest just editing your post to have your character interact with SU-01 instead of Flad. Also, this is more a personal request, but could the people trying to break in just give us on the inside a little more time?

Obviously the characters on the outside are going to get in sooner or later, but it's going to work better for the plot if it takes a little longer. It gives us on the inside a little more time to discuss things and it gives you guys on the outside a chance to do a bit of teamwork and interaction too.

As Mars slumped down looking rather depressed, Hembar's expression softened a bit. Then Anni spoke up, "Is there anything you can do, like... like erase his memory?"

Hembar shook her head, "I may have some 'freaky native powers' but I can't do anything like that." Before she could continue, the door lifted slightly, but then it crashed down again - obviously her manipulation on the door lock had done the job she intended it to do.

But then she heard a robotic voice talking, "This is SU-01. I've been send because of a malfunctioning door. I thought this might have been an escape attempt. Is everything alright in here ? Please identify yourself and report your situation."

"Damn it!" she exclaimed, "It's that robot again." Thinking quickly, though not really very deeply she looked at Anni,
"I wonder if we can make it look like we forced you to help us, that way you can explain being with us when the slig saw you. I know it's not a very solid plan, but we don't have time to think up much else, so maybe if you start yelling for help to that robot, that will convince it that you weren't working with us, and then us two can escape down to the basement before they get that door open. So hopefully we'll be out of here before they can get us, and you'll appear as a victim not a culprit.

Hopefully."

Mars

IC: "No" Mars blurted out. "I'll take the blame.", he said, rising up to his feet as heroically as a 12-year old mud (mentally) could. He was not letting them have they're buts kicked for his stupidity. "You guys have been helping me out because of my recklessness. And I'm the only one that can dodge bullets. If anything goes wrong, I can run". Mars suddenly collapsed stupidly. He yelped as he hit the ground, but quickly picked himself up and restored his serious expression.

"Stupid, stupid leg" he muttered.

IC:

Hembar looked a little surprised at Mars' outburst, but then she answered, "Well, it's your choice. But you're not the only one who can avoid being shot, so I'm willing to help you, whether you want to run or stay. But we do need to solve the problem of Anni getting into trouble for being seen with natives. That's why I think's it best if we make it look like she was made to help against her will. What do you think, Anni?

IC: Borso twitched, did a forward roll on the floor and sprang into action. "Where the..." It took Borso a while to realise he had been napping. "Oh, Flad... it's you. So, what's up?"

Flad replied to Borso; "The lab door has been broken and I have heard lots of banging from inside. I think the native may have escaped and has locked himself inside with another Slig. I could use your help, we need to find something long, hard, most probably metal..." Suddenly a thought occured to Flad "Odd, we could just use one of our guns. How could I have been so stupid." He said, "Ok, I have an idea: The door opens partially so I can open the door with my gun and hold it open while you go through first. We capture The native, help out the Slig and everythings fine. Well, we better get to the Lab as quickly as possible"

Of course it's obviously not going to be that simple
Luckily SU-01 is there so that should buy some time for the Muds .

Ic: Opril was still wandering around at the production line, unaware of the intense action taking place on the first floor. "Wow, this is slightly less intriguing then I thought it'd be."
He said, while taking a seat on a a near by box.

ooc: Mars, that's the sort of ooc I was talking about. Please don't do it, except as part of an IC post.
If you're posting IC, you can make little comments like that. If you're not, then don't. It just fills up space quicker.
Man, I was hoping to finally get to interact with Mars and Hembar some more...

IC:
Anni nodded; it sounded like a fairly good plan, "Maybe you two should go, and then I'll go and get the slig out of the cage. I'll tell him I came to speak to Mars, and found him already out of his cage." She glanced towards the door. "I don't know how much longer they'll need to get through."

In the production lines, Jim was beginning to decide that Ralph wasn't as weird as he had previously thought. He seemed unusually down-to-earth compared to the other people in this place.
He looked around as a door opened and saw a rather creepy-looking vykker (Opril) walk in.
He whispered to Ralph, "You know, it's probably a good thing Anni's not here. She hates vykkers." Then he called out to the vykker, "Are you lost?"

I'm rather convinced no one on the internet cares for comedy anymore.

IC: "Using my gun as a crowbar eh? Sounds kinda stupid." Borso paused, "Just kidding, come on let's get this open." Borso jammed his gun in the gap, using his arm to act as a lever. "Oh wait, you said you wanted to run in?", Borso waited for Flad to place his gun in the doorway too, so he could lever it enough for it to open.

SU-01 is in the way so Flad and Borso can't yet try and open the door.
Lets just say they are just arriving at the lab . It'll give the Muds more time and SU-01 could help out too.

SU-01 waited a few seconds. Everyone in the room failed to identify himself so he decided to force the door open. He was still on low alert so he warned everyone inside.

"I'm going to enter the room and make sure everything and everyone is alright. Please stand back from the door if you can. Opening door in 5...4...3...2...1..."

He used one of his gun like a ram. The door fell on the ground and SU-01 went inside the labs, standing in front of the door to block the way out. The blast had thrown some dust clouds in the air so he waited for them to dissipate. He was now sure that he was facing three Mudokons. When his vision got clearer, he looked at them one by one. He first saw the paramite-friendly Mudokon he met earlier. But when he spotted the native he escorted out of the factory several minutes ago and the other native that was responsible of his malfunction, he immediately went on maximum alert. He aimed his guns at both Hembar and Mars.

"FREEZE !"

His guns started spinning, ready to fire. He was about to call for reinforcements through the whole factory speakers system but the voice in his head was back. His robotic and living half were struggling in his "head". His guns were spinning and stopping at random and the only thing that could be heard from him was "KILL'EM !" and "ABORT !" orders looping endlessly. "CONTROL SYSTEM OVERLOADED. SWITCHING TO MANUAL MODE". Finally ! His robotic part had just gave up. His guns stopped and his eyes went back to green.

"What are you all doing here ?" he said with his not anymore robotic voice.

Well, I guess so much for us on the inside having a little more time...

Mars, there are plenty of people who appreciate humour here. It's just that little posts like that make it harder to follow the flow of the IC posts. We're not humourless robots

And I just want to say something which is not supposed to be digging at anyone. I just want to say, with a role-play, you may find that one of the most fun parts of the game is just interacting with other characters, having conversations etc. Obviously action can be fun too, but the problem that comes up when we have too much action is players argue because obviously no one wants their character to lose as such. Whereas when we just Work at Rupture Farms, it gives your characters a chance to talk and make friends, and the players often make friends too And of course, sometimes there'll be conflicts between characters, because of differing personalities or opinions, but that creates drama which makes things interesting without any of the players getting angry about losing a battle or something

Like I said, this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, and it's just my opinion so others may not agree, but I would suggest once this native episode is over we try to settle things down a little

I'll wait until Mars or Opril post IC before I post IC again.

He said to himself, making his way to the corner. He peeked around, watching the snoozer enter the labs, after ramming the door to the ground with a loud -THUD-.

Flad was walking with Borso to the lab, a short distance from R+R. Suddenly a loud Thud was heard "Odd, what was that" Flad said and began to run in the direction of the lab, his pants screeching and clattering. He could see a Snoozer standing through the doorway, "I guess we won't need to worry about that door anymore," Flad said to Borso.

He continued running until he reached the lab door, currently being blocked by the snoozer. He found a small opening between the Snoozer's leg and the wall and slipped through, unaware that he was being watched by a vykker. Flad walked beside the snoozer noticed the native and raised his gun "Freeze!" Flad then realized that the Snoozer's eyes where green. "Wait. green means everythings ok." Flad thought to himself and lowered his gun. A part of him was relieved that he didn't have to use it. "What's going on here? That's the native that should be locked up. Flad looked at Mars and raised his gun again. "For a terrorist your not doing that much terrorising, no sabotage, no rescues. What are you doing here?"

While he was looking round for something to do, Erp heard someone talking behind him and he whirled around to see a Mudokon standing there.

"... to take us to our work areas," he was saying. "My name's Slen."

"Uh, I'm Erp," said Erp. "Say, are we supposed to be getting an escort or something? To take us to our work areas?"

Tok was furious. The Mudokons had locked him in this cell and left. He could he them talking quietly in the next room, and then there were shouts and and more talking, and through all this he was locked in a lab cage without any pants on.

When he got his hands on that terrorist - !

Opril, watching intensely decided to approach the two sligs (Flad, Borso) After seeing
the Snoozer had settled down. "Well, well.. having trouble with this one are we?"
He gestured at Mars. "I've an ingenious approach to this, if your willing to let me operate on your little terrorist." While telling the two about his idea, Opril adjusted the lens to his thermal reading scope.

IC:

"You know, it's probably a good thing Anni's not here. She hates vykkers." Jim informed Ralph quietly as they saw a vykker (Opril) enter the production lines.

"I don't much like them myself," Ralph muttered, "them and their sadistic experiments."

Appearing to have either not heard or just ignored Jim's question, the vykker promptly got up and left the area again. Ralph looked across at Jim with his eyebrows raised, then shook his head and said, "Well, good riddance I say."

Anni had just agreed to execute their plan when the robot SU-01 spoke again, "I'm going to enter the room and make sure everything and everyone is alright. Please stand back from the door if you can. Opening door in 5...4...3...2...1..."

"This can't be good..." Hembar quietly said to the other two mudokons

Then there was a loud smash and the lab door came crashing down on the ground. Hembar quickly tried to position herself where she could defend both Anni and Mars from a possible attack while the robot entered the doorway and stopped, waiting for the dust to clear.

Then it suddenly seemed to go berzerk for a few seconds, after which is seemingly calmed down and said "What are you all doing here?"

Hembar gave Mars and Anni a look as if to say What's wrong with this thing?, but then one of the sligs from before (Flad) came running in and aimed his gun at Mars, asking him, "For a terrorist your not doing that much terrorising, no sabotage, no rescues. What are you doing here?"

Following him came a new vykker she hadn't seen before (Opril), who started talking about operating on the younger mudokon.

"If you so much as lay a finger on him, I will personally make sure you never operate on anyone ever again," she threatened, "He's just a kid!"

Before someone said anything, a slig managed to enter the room. He lowered his gun and spoke to one of the Mudokon.

"Everything is under control. This mudokon (he looked at Mars) has escaped from the detention area. He found himself in this room with these two others employees (designating Hembar and Anni). The previous Vykker who used this lab left quite a mess behind him so they must have been send to clean everything up. Anyway, no reinforcements are required at the moment. I was about and I'm going to taze the fugitive so he won't go anywhere but in the cage he belongs to."

He aimed his gun at Mars chest and winked (sort of) at him without the slig noticing it. He shot a sticky tazer bullet at the Mudokon. He set the intensity low enough to be harmless. He hoped the Mudokon would understand his plan and would fake the electrocution.

IC: Borso entered the room shortly after Flad, holding his revolver in both of his hands. Borso listened to what the Vykker had to say. "This Mudokon is not avaliable for experimentation at this time. The boss wants him alive." Borso pointed his revolver at Mars before entertainingly twirling it and placing it in its holster.

Tazers... Borso didn't like them, he didn't trust them. Something wasn't right about this. Still, the Slig looked like a decent guy.
