I quite liked the Mist, also. Despite it's rather twisty ending.

Thinking about it, the Mist wasn't actually that bad. Also, did Nate's avatar just move?

I've started watching Daria. Occasionally hilarious, and almost always entertaining, yet I can't help but find the titular character slighlty unbearably, repetitiously, obnoxiously misanthropic after a while. Maybe I've just been watching it too much and her monotone musings are getting under my skin.

It's a good thing the rest of the characters are (mostly) brilliant, though. The football player-cheerleader duo of Kevin and Brittany is one of the funniest comedic pairs I've seen in a long while.

I watched Let the Right One In, a Swedish horror/drama movie about a bullied kid who meets a vampire kid and they become very close friends and maybe even more than that. It might sound a bit weird but honestly, it was one of the best movies I have seen. Every actor in the movie does a great job and the main characters' relationship is just so genuine and lovely. It's not that scary, but many scenes have an eerie feeling of uneasiness. I don't want to spoil anything about it, go watch it pleeeeeeease. It is on Netflix I believe. Don't watch the American remake called Let Me In, it is supposedly an alright film on its own but it has a completely different atmosphere than the original movie.

Oh yeah and I also watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. What a trippy movie. Liked it very much.

The American version is one of the few remakes that stands up extraordinarily well when put against the original. I do like the original better (I actually own it on dvd), but Let Me In is pretty great, too.

Edit: If you want to watch another amazing vampire movie, check out Thirst.

You think so? I thought the American version was a piece of shit made for retarded audiences who don't want to "read a film". It butchers the original's masterful use of subtlety, replacing it with "HEY GUYS LOOK AT THIS BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT" camera work and exposition.

Also, the characters are completely different.

That's not a sentiment I had heard before. I thought it was still a fairly subtle movie. I expected them to try to action it up for American audiences, but they didn't really do that. I enjoyed it almost as much as the original.

Explain your opinion, Nep. Sorry for coming across as a big wank but that read like a lot of buzzwords rather than an informed analysis of the film.

This latest season of anime was kind of bad and I dropped about half of what I started. There were only two shows I'd call great.

Am I cool yet?

I thought Bebop was 'good' at best, and the first season/half of Dandy was infuriatingly inconsistent, but almost every episode in the second season was a winner.

I watched the first two episodes of Texhnolyze and I have no idea what just happened, pretty sure I enjoyed it, though. I also watched the first episode of Psycho-Pass and I liked it, but not nearly as much.

They both get better. Texhnolyze especially is damn near art by the finale.

I liked the first half of Texhnolyze but lost a little bit of interest during the second. But I think that's mostly because I liked Yoshii as an antagonist way more than Kano. The ending was still good though. The soundtrack is also really good.

I've just seen Mad Max 3, a.k.a. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It's an adventure of Mad Max which happens at thunderdome, and then beyond it. It was... it was a mixed bag, really. There were some great original ideas, but there are many small problems with this movie that in overall make it the worst movie in the trilogy.

It's not bad, though. It is enjoyable. But not as exciting as MM2. Also, it's PG-13 now, which made most of the charm gone.

I pre-ordered the new Alien game that's coming out next week and felt a need to watch the movies before I play it so I watched Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 (I guess I'll watch Alien Resurrection too if I have some time tonight). I really like Alien and Aliens, both are great movies but man, Alien 3 is just... ugh. I watched the Special Edition of it which is supposedly better than the theatrical version but it's just so mediocre in comparison to the previous movies, I didn't like it at all.

I also watched The Hunt, Superbad, Moonrise Kingdom and Rushmore.

The Hunt is a Danish movie that tackles a pretty sensitive, not-so-talked-about subject. It's about a man working in a kindergarten whose life turns into hell after one kid's little lie gets the other daycare workers thinking he's a pedophile and the word spreads around in the small town where everyone knows everyone. It was really fucked up in a way and really uncomfortable to watch at some parts, but it was a great movie overall. The original name is "Jagten" if you want to look it up.

Superbad you all probably already know about that one. Great comedy, this is the second time I watched it.

Moonrise Kingdom was something I've wanted to see for a while now and I finally got around to watching it and man oh man, I absolutely loved it. Loved it loved it loved it. The vintage colours, the soundtrack, the way it's shot, the casting and just everything about it. It was just a fantastic movie in every possible way. I wish I'd watched it sooner.

After watching Moonrise Kingdom, I got interested in Wes Anderson's other movies and decided to check out Rushmore. I quite liked it, but I thought it wasn't as accessible/easy to watch as Moonrise Kingdom, I felt like some things just went straight over my head but man, Schwartzman was great in it and some scenes had me in stitches with their quirkiness like the dinner scene ("O.R. they?" legitimately made me burst with laughter) and the part where Mr. Blume (Bill Murray) is hiding behind a tree and spying on the teacher. Really good movie, but I did prefer Moonrise Kingdom a lot more.

So yeah, a lot of movies. I'm also planning to watch Audition, Cache and I'm Still Here soon. I also bought the novel Let the Right One In is based on, excited to read that.

Alien and Aliens are both masterpieces. Alien is arguably better than Aliens but I do enjoy the latter more. Alien 3 is kind of shit and Alien Resurrection is a huge pile of decaying donkey jizz.

Moonrise Kingdon has nothing on Rushmore. I always go back and forth between Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums as to which is my favorite film of all time.

Moonrise Kingdom was great, but yeah Rushmore is really one of the best, and most hilarious movies I've seen (Tenenbaums too, but I think I like Rushmore a tad more). Took me a couple views to realize its brilliance, though. Moonrise was a lot more immediate.
