But (a) the majority of the people voting for the songs are Triple-J listeners and thus have predisposed tastes and (b) they only make the songs on their playlists available to vote. So there was no way that mainstream pop could venture on to the countdown.
EDIT: But but, that's besides my original point, which was that your comment about enjoying the songs, even the ones you weren't familiar with, is more meaningful with the explanation that it wasn't mainstream pop music.
