Well, unlike most of you, I still LOVE Oddworld. I thought MO was just a slight change that added a twang of action and a pinch of comedy. MO was great for me, if not for you. And to those of you who have lost interest in Oddworld, that's fine with me. I will be sad to see Oddworldian go. You had a great site, Syd, and I will miss it. But, we still have you on the forums, and that's better than nothin'!

I to have lost intrest in Oddworld. I still love AO and AE they were so great. When I first joined the Forums it was all about Oddworld, and I hardly ever posted in Off topic now it's the other way round. To tell you the truth I think when oddworld gets a little bit older it's going to go way down hill but lets hope that it picks itself up. I think it's with every game as well just look at spyro as 1,2 said, the 3rd one sucks compared to the first and second one.

Syd had a great site, one of the best of all OW sites. I'm sad to see it go, but... I'm just thankful he's still at the forums. I would rather converse with him and read his posts...

I still love AO and AE, but I don't really come here for oddworld any more. I've made a lot of friends here, and some great conversations go on... (another problem is that MO was a bit... well, lame. It wasn't dark, intriguing, grimy, intellectual nor as fun as the others...)

I don't know. I love AO and AE. Maybe because it was different. MO is just like an ordinary video game. That's what makes it sooo uugghhh.

I think MO lost the "dark" and "grimy" feel found in AE and especially AO. In any case, I'm sad to see Oddworldian go. Let's hope Oddworld gets a face lift and ME gets the grimy feel back.

geez, you people pit a real damper on my day! I finally have enough for a freakin X-box, and now you say that MO is not the same os the previous games? To "kiddie?" DAMNATION!!!! What the hell? I'm still gonna buy it, still gonna play it, but, wow, what a turn around.

You know, MO has been one of the major things that has kept me interested in Oddworld. You see, I don't know how many of you realize this, but Oddworld is NOT JUST ANOTHER VIDEO GAME. IT'S SOMETHING MUCH MORE. IT'S DEEP, FANTASY NOVEL DEEP. I MEAN, GEEZ, IT'S A WHOLE FREAKIN PLANET FOR CRYING OUT LOWD! It's a parody of our own world, from the evil, greedy corporate tyranny that plagues society, to the fanatical, anti-technology "treehuggers" that are just as crazy as those they oppose. And the first 2 games only glimpsed the surface, only a glimpse at a whole new world. This only drives me ever onwards towards the discovery of the rest of Oddworld. the first time I played that demo I got from the Playstation Underground back in 1997, I was hooked for life. Back in 1997, that's right, it was one of my first playstation titles, and one I play to this day. I'm sorry, but you can't change my mind, my intereszt is now only higher.

People don't realize exaclty what Oddworld is: a whole other world that exists in all of us, since we all share the characteristics of the Oddworldian characters that are our own alternative reality.

Thanks for the sentiment guys.

Can I just iterate what I said earlier, about other people liking the changes? I'm not saying Oddworld has become bad, but rather it's lost its appeal to me. Other people still love how Oddworld is, I'm not trying to encourage people to think the same way as I. If you've managed to stick by Oddworld through its changes, more power to you.

As for choosing someone else to take over Oddworldian, I'd rather not. But there's nothing stopping you from building your own Oddworld website.

I understand Sydney, the same thing happened to me with comics, and even video games. I don't play nearly as much as I used to. Oddworld has been one of my steadfast gaming experiences. I miss it though, I even played Super Mario Bros. on my old SNES in a state of sublime melancholy. Oh, the memories.

And people, read things, don't be taken aback by your ignorance. Remember, research can go a long way.

uh........... mr. boj i think there are several of us on these forums who understand the complete brilliance of the social satire in the Oddworld universe. But that doesn't mean that we're going to stay interested in it if it doesn't offer anything more than what has already been offered. In fact MO delivered less than what has been offered in the past. I would rather OWI scrapped the whole MO/ME storyline and made another 2-D 32 bit side scroller, than them have put out the sad excuse for a OW game like they did. They made 3 level designs and then based the whole game off of those 3 designs. ohhhhhhhhhhh that's innovation [please insert sacastic voice]. i guess i'm saying that you're not the only one to realize that there's more to the story than meets the eye, but if OWI are going to keep coming out with bullshit like MO, then they can count me out.

I wasn't going to respond to this topic... as Sydney had previously told me about the future of Oddworldian, and I respect that he has to do what he has to do.

What saddens me is that many people are "judging" the game without even seeing of it. And that many people have turned away from Oddworld. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that is certainly fine. I just think you should at least wait to see what the game is like before judging (rent an Xbox and Munch if you can't afford to buy one).

Oddworld is a lot more than just the games. Yes, there is a whole universe out there that we have yet to explore, but there is much more to Oddworld than that. Oddworld brings with it a message, a message that more people need to find out about in this world. And if that means giving the game more of a mass appeal, then that may just be what has to be done. Lorne said his goal is to have the Inhabitants in every home.

One thing this post has been able to determine, is the "true" fans. Once again, there is not a problem with just being a normal fan. But a true fan will stick by Oddworld no matter what. I am one of such people. Oddworld means too much to me to just go and turn away from it. And if there are changes, I grow with them and change with them. That's just me though. And there are other fans like that out there too.

MrBoj... believe me, Oddworld is not a "kiddie" game... I don't know where that concept came from, as it's far from your Pokemon or Mario Bros.

Finally, I just want to say, that it is good you guys still want to stay on the forums... after all our members are what makes our forums. And remember, you can always choose to visit Oddworld-Web for Oddworld news... I'm not planning on a closure any time ever. (Ok, blantant plug for advertising there).

Or just think of it this way... Oddworldian.net is the forums, Oddworld-Web is the Oddworld Website, OddChat is the chat room. It's just a bit different now.

Abe Babe...

I've hung in there since the GT board's blue and yellow forum...Guess you can call me a veteran..
I'm all to familiar with the lassitude that comes with finding a website I'd enjoyed is going kaput...Guess it can't be helped. Oddworldian was the best of them..
Happens with all of em..
Last year, Rivenguild also went down...I wasn't too happy about that either...

I watched the move to X-box and watched people b!tch about it..That Sobe thing? I tried it recently and I love the stuff...I'll grab the Lizard over the Dew...Don't see what people are so POed about there..
I only hope Microsoft won't ruin what made Oddworld so good..
From the screenshots of MO, I like what I see...
Probably Oddworld is the only reason for me to get an X-box...What the hey, maybe by waiting a few months, maybe the bugs will be all worked out...
Heh, If I could afford to rent an X-box for the time it'll take me to get used to a console, and the time I go back to play Oddworld games- I may as well buy it...
Hey if I want to rent a movie every day for two weeks, I'm gonna want to own it...

OWI does listen to it's fans...Somebody mentioned fireflies returning, even if they're just in the background- They liked that...
If there are certain elements that people liked, OWI just might try to bring that back in other games.....I loved the music in AO- save points were a pain....The music in AE was okay, liked the quicksave...And they ditched things that too many people hated, like bats..

Sooooooooooooo....

How many of us are gonna plant snapdragons this spring?

No, My cousin has MO and I was playing it. It's not like the other oddworld games that Lorne Made. I mean it's good but something's missing to make it more oddworld.

this is all very disheartening, yet, as time goes on, I find myself changing as well. In any case, this all sounds so familiar, this supposed change in the atmosphere of the game. I've seen it in many forms of medium. Still, undaunted, I will linger on, and see for myself if Oddworld has really changed.

Hey MrBoji cool I like how you view Oddworld. I view it in a similar fashon. Oddworld is more than just a game it's something very strong in story. I respect Sydney for what he is doing. He is just wanting to move on. You know you can't do the same thing for the rest of your life. It just gets boring. All things Must pass. Thats just the way things are in this world. I for one am going to stay with Oddworld because it's something I can relate to. I believe my future is based on Oddworld. It is an art that I enjoy to the fullest. I use Oddworld in my art and I hope I could create something just as beautiful as Oddworld. I have the Imagination and the desire so I believe I could acomplish such a task. All of you are a wounderful bunch of people who love and desire the same thing I like, that is Oddworld. Yes it is sad to see some things go but it's not the end. It will never be the end for me. And thats whats important. Perhaps some of you don't like it anymore. Thats ok too. Thats what makes are world so unieque. What I have read among all of you is something great. Be anouther sydney and do something too. I might some day actully create a web site like Oddworldian but in my own vision. So I could leave a mark in the art of Oddworld. Thankyou
Paramiteabe

Funny, are all us longtime forummers losing interest? (No, I haven't read the whole thread, I've only got ten minutes before by exam and thought I'd add a two-pennorth before I go.) I thought it was just me. Oh well. It's weird - I still have my fics and suchlike, and still love to write, but... I don't know, something in my mind seems to have disconnected my fics with the "actual" universe - the "Games universe", I suppose. So technically my mind thinks I'm not writing Oddworldly stuff at all... Any other fic-types get that...?

Narf, enough ramble. Seeyas round, people.

Surfacing, Abe Babe is quite happy with her own Oddworld fan site. Oddworldian has finished, it will never be seen again.

I must admit I feel slightly guilty. Oddworld Inhabitants have provided Oddworldian with a lot of support over the couple of years while it was running. But again, there's no point in continuing it if my interest in Oddworld's direction has been extinguished.

Abe Babe, not to be argumentative, but I Have to say I disagree with your definition of a "true fan." I considered myself a true fan, but I didn't stick with Oddworld throughout the changes. If something changes so much that it even sheds the elements that originally appealed to you, then your connection to it is nothing more than obsessive fanaticism. But you are happy with the changes because your tastes are different. If I were to keep my site up and continue with it, I'd be a mindless, obsessive fanatic, because the changes didn't suit my tastes - hardly a "true fan." I'm still a fan of Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, but that could hardly fuel my site.

I think Mr. Boj is missing my point. The fact that Oddworld is more than a computer game is the whole reason why I don't like what I have seen of MO. After providing us with two games that we could at least pretend to believe were real, they seemed to go out of their way to remind us that MO was just a computer game, what with the brightly-coloured landscapes, the Spooce, the "Health", etc. I didn't lose interest with Oddworld because I knew it was just a computer game, I lost interest in Oddworld because it became just a computer game...

Sorry if I offended you in any way Sydney... my post was meant to be a general consensus of the situation and not directed at you at all. As I understand your reasons for taking Oddworldian down, and as I said in my last post I respected them.

I guess my view of a true fan differs from yours (and in fact both of our views may differ from the next person again). My view is that the "fandom" runs deeper than just the games, therefore why I accept the changes and can see that it is time to move to the next stage. But once again that is just me.

But I go agree with you... from your point of view it would have been pointless to keep Oddworldian going. I'm not trying to say that you weren't a true fan in the past (or aren't still of the first two games), just that you are different from me in that the fandom may be based "on the games".

OK, I'd better shut up now before I say anything wrong.

Abe Babe...

1. By leaving I meant the members that will only be checking back occasionaly. Hell, even OddBod came back post once or twice. I've also noticed at least 2-3 people who have done the same. Eibu... Wise Abe... etc. Perhaps more clarification in my posts is in order...
2. Which is why I said "or lost interest." You would be a good example, Rettick. As in, you seem to have lost interest in oddworld, but you are still an active member. Hmmm... I can see where the confusion is coming from now...
3. I'm going to assume you aren't talking about me. If you aren't, than there is no need for further explaination...
