Yu-Gi-Oh is confusing. I mean, why doesn't somebody just walk over, knock them over the head and tear up their cards? Also, why do they play a card game to decide the fate of the world?
Why didn't the villain kill Bond when he had the chance, rather then putting him in an escapable death-trap? Suspension of disbelief is paramount.

I'd hardly say thats equivalent of the stupidity surrounding the basic plot of Yugi-oh!

It's just a card game. Don't feed me all that "Its based on ancient Egyptian magic!" crap either. Cardboard. Cardboard and ink. Kick Yugi in the mouth, take his cards, drop them in a puddle. The end.

Also, Pokemon advocates animal cruelty. It's just a more whimsical version of cockfighting. "Hey look everyone! An entire world filled with exotic, magical creatures! LETS CATCH THEM, CONFINE THEM TO WALNUT-SIZED PRISONS, AND ONLY LET THEM OUT WHEN WE WANT THEM TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF EACH OTHER!"

It originated from the practice of Japanese schoolboys to catch grasshoppers (and perhaps other critters), keep them in matchboxes and have them fight each other.

Actually, the reason he plays games so much is expanded upon in the original Manga. he can only hurt people through getting them to play games with him. Once they accept his challenge, Yugi can do some horrible things to them. Plus, he loves games. not just trading cards, but logic puzzles, board-games, air-hockey, Yo-yos, he'll play them all.

It's not, it was never the writers intention to base three quarters of his story around childrens trading cards.

It just kind of happened.

For serial! He plays tons of different games all over the story, plays the card game, goes on to others, then goes back to it for that tournament thing that was the first part of the TV show.
