And I've never read the books nor seen the film, however I know a number of people who either like it or are obsessed with it. A classmate was telling me about a friend of theirs who has memorized the book, and can basically recite it to herself. That's just disturbing.

I think it was made about vampires because even the classy people of the romance novel publishing world wouldn't put out her ass shit writing without an exploitable hook.
I think I heard on the news a few weeks ago that Meyer did blatantly rip off one of her friends works to produce Twilight, and that's why the sequels are, incredulously, worse.
This might just be an urban rumor though.
