This is basically how he/she comes to be in the first season. Sorry about shitty-small-subtitles.

...right...it doesn't seem a boy, BUT as I know japanese culture, he's definitely a boy, that like girls, but like to walk around in a dress...right?
My theory was proved.

Normal? Probably not. Birth rates would plummet. Accepted, of course.

I think you're confusing transvestism with transsexualism. Unless of course, I'm missing something glaringly obvious about increased numbers of transvestites.

The two are often confused, indeed.

It's kinda funny what happens to him, really.

He has this kid-crush on this girls' older sister, but the girl's a total bitch and is all GTFO. So the other sister, the dumb one, helps him crossdress and fit in. This works until boy realizes he's actually out window-shopping for women's clothing.

This continues to spiral until he's found a pile of abandon fetishwear on the riverside. Next ep is him in a maid outfit with little frilly socks and everything. It's awesome.
Yes, um....funny.

Transvestitism should be normal in all cultures.
However if transvestism was normal, then female clothes would be the normal male clothing and male clothing would be the normal female clothing. Thus meaning female clothes would no longer be female clothes, as women would not wear them, so they would be male clothes instead and vice versa for women/male clothing, meaning men would still be wearing men's clothes and women still wearing womens clothes. Therefore meaning transvesitism by its very nature cannot be the norm.

Check and mate sir.

It can, just so long as everybody swaps frequently enough for them to remember the time when it was the other way around.

Alternatively, the thing all cultures should have is ‘androgynvestism’.

It is, have you heard of metros?

But seriously, our world is confusing enough already with boys with long hair cuts and girls with the lack of any hair to cut altogether.

When did your fascination with Japan begin? Has it occupied your every waking thought since you were a small child or did it grow mostly near high school?

Your obsession reminds me of trekkies. Mostly in the way that they take the show seriously. No offense.

Well, when I was a little drooly tyke, my mum bought me the old Voltron TV show on VHS instead of Barbie and that basically set me on the robot path. Then I watched Transformers and stuff like that, even a bit of Robotech.

Anyway, once I first moved overseas with her to China, I got my hands on a bunch of subtitled tokutsatsu shows from Japan, which is basically everything from Godzilla to Power Rangers. That set me up even more.

When I was about 7 or 8, we lived in Japan for a good while itself, and I encountered shows like Hikarian, which while also having robots and shit, also had cute anime girls. This, plus pokemon and digimon, really first put my mind into it. I didn't know the language very well, but kid's don't need words to understand giant fucking robots beating each other up!

So anyway after I moved back to China again, I started getting my grandparents back in Australia to get me DVDs of Anime like Sakura Wars, Slayers, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, and Ghost in the Shell. These were all mature mindfuck shows and they changed my interest yet again.

Finally, I discovered the fun of the internet and started downloading real shows online with fansubs and shit, plus I started buying manga and stuff from stores and things. In my recent trips to Japan I buy tons of cheap cutesy toys and enjoy them too.

I've always lived in an Asian environment, really, even my mum and her sister actually grew up in Kuching, so yeah. Not to mention, my dad was Asian himself, which is why I look like that while my mum is as white as a whiteboard. Bastard didn't stick around after that one night stand, however =P

Another reason is that cute anime girls and Yuri (lesbian) manga that I stumbled across really helped with my sexual identity.

When I came back to Australia my rather strange interests have made me a bit of a geek, but my girlfriend is able to get past that so I'm okay.

Get bored easily?

She majored in English Lit then got into Journalism. After studying over in Europe somewhere she came back and taught Japanese and Chinese students English, but then she found work to easy and got a high-paying job in a major English magazine in China (surprisingly more popular then you think!) so that dragged me along with her. The magazine was owned by a multinational company so once she finished up in one place they sent her somewhere else.

I got used to it. Hell, right now she's dumped me in Australia where I'm finishing my study so she can go work in Singapore =P.
