Ok, first of all you're multi posting when you could really easily just have edited your first post.

To get an avatar you need to go into your user CP (there's a button up the top of the site that'll take you there) and from there you should find all your options including avatars and signatures.

You've uploaded it wrong. You want to upload it as an AVATAR but you have uploaded it as a SIGNATURE, if you understand.
