Ahh! My situation is kind of depressing because of racism, let me explain. I have to admit that most Puerto Ricans either aren't taught to drive well, or they like to live by their own rules... I don't know, Puerto Rican adults, anyway. It's difficult to say this fairly, but the roads here are a lot less orderly than ones in America, mostly because the laws are lax-- people don't enforce them!
What does this have to do with racism? One of the reasons we left Florida was because a particular amount of cops were trying to get us in trouble for the most menial of reasons, a little here, a little there. With experience my family concluded that the rumors of 'bad Puerto Rico drivers' had spread, and Florida did not want Puerto Ricans.
Puerto Ricans? Americans? What are we? We're one half. My mom and I were born in the Bronx, and my dad was born here. I love this island, but it gets fustrating when you aren't wanted anywhere. We go to Florida and we're discriminated for being Puerto Rican, we go to Puerto Rico, and guess what! 'Look at the white girl'. It was quite a trauma to go through fourth through sixth grade being called 'americana', I bet most of the students didn't even know my name. There is a political party here that dislikes Americans a lot, and the school I went to was dominantly that party...
Thankfully, I'm in an American school now, but our principal is kind of sexist. She gives females rights that males should have as well, but do not. I know I'm a girl, but it just isn't right.
A problem of today for me as well, is my shortness. I get called skinny and short all the time, I have people wondering if I'm anorexic or something. More though, it's my height! What's wrong with being short? I could see if I had a disorder, but I don't. I just don't get a lot of sleep because of my schedule.
There are so many problems that society seems to pick at, even when victims speak out, it won't change anything. Why is this a subject of which nothing can be done about?
