I will never get back into this game. I was amazed at how quickly and completely the game does consume your life... Concluded that it wasn't worth it. I closed my account and moved on to smaller games.
Amen, brother. Never again.

You might be right in that respect, but I feel like the community factor that I loved about this game practically disappeared with cross-server dungeons and battlegrounds. I may have my nostalgia goggles strapped on pretty damn hard, but I just miss the old community.
Yeah - The wider WoW community is like that. Back when you relied on people from your own server to do stuff with, your reputation with other players was important. You get more arseholes now in random cross server PuGs, because people know the likelihood of meeting the same player twice is pretty slim.

However, if you get on well enough with people from your own server and join the right guilds, organise PuGs in trade chat instead of using the dungeon finder, you can still get a good community factor and gradually get to know players from your own server and gain a reputation with them. It takes a while, sure, but it's worth it.

If WoW still retained the old community from BC/early Wrath, along with the current level of fun in the gameplay (WoF convinced me I was wrong in that respect - the gameplay's still great, it's just the community), It'd be an amazing game.

Sadly, this cannot be. Not yet, anyways.

Also, don't you think it's a bit too soon for an expansion? I mean, I know they just announced it, but wasn't Cataclysm announced towards the end of Wrath? I mean, Cataclysm hasn't even been out for a year, then *bam* new expansion. Seems a bit... rushed.

Most of Cata's content was on revamping the old world, making the quests more fun and adding more detail. There wasn't a lot of endgame content compared to Wrath - Infact the next patch will include Deathwing as the final boss, which is why I suppose they're releasing a new expansion so quickly.

Shit. Well, I hope they're not planning on release it full-price like they did with Cata. That would just be too much. $15 a month, now they're farting out expansions every 10 months or so? I hope they don't keep on this trail.

Expansions should last for more than one year, especially when you're gonna retail them for $50 or so.

I think the idea was that Cata essentially became the base level WoW, as vanilla and TBC are now free.

I absolutely love pretty much everything they've done other than what World of Warcraft has become. There are far worse big name developers out there right now, such as modern Rareware.
The whole Warcraft (and WoW) universe really is just recycled Tolkien - like most fantasy these days.

Tolkien is such a misogynist. Women can do anything - including dangerous journeys to Mordor!

Actually I'm not being serious but I have seen other people on the internet complain about the lack of females in the fellowship before.

I blame Beowulf, damn Anglo Saxons. For western fantasy, that is. lol and seems to be an useless observation, as most great authors seem to lack main female roles. Dickens, Steinbeck, Twain, etc. Especially since the inclusion of said roles wouldn't affect much, likely.

I'm more irritated at Blizzard's bastardization of Warhammer than taking themes from Tolkien, which is a given in any western fantasy. There's no subtlety to it whatsoever.

This is October fools, right? An expansion with only one race for both factions? Panda people but no walrus people? What is this?

I won't be interested until murlocs become playable.

They already had walrus people as a major race in Wrath. They're just not playable.

I'm not annoyed by panda men. I don't actually play, I have an observer's interest. I'm slightly perplexed that of all the races they chose to make panda people playable. the east-asian bent is a nice touch, but in that respect panda people a a tad on the nose and potentially cliche.

What is odd is that they have a whole expansion that adds only one new race, which presumably goes to both factions. Both these aspects are unique.

I used to talk to Mitsur about the possibility of the third faction, deep ones out of the sea. Murlocs, naga etc. He didn't seem very confident, something about "an underwater homeland would be difficult for other factions to attack" and other such nonsense designed to ruin my idea.

Also naga are baddies.

Like, actual baddies.

Their empress is allied with just about every lore important antagonist (With the notable exception of Arthas) at the same time. She's also the strongest (disputably mortal) being alive on Azeroth.
